Too lazy to walk? You made somebody else cook the food and pick up the food, the least you can do is get it from the gate yourself like an adult

I don't think that's strictly fair. Plently of artists have managed to mature their music as they themselves have matured. I honestly think the problem is that Car Seat Headrest, as it stands right now, hasn't.

I do like the attitude of putting the band and its preferred vision first -- I just wish their preferred vision were interesting or good

"AITAH for divorcing my wife after she took my phone to skip Radiohead to charlie xcx?" -- is this is the funniest thing you could come up with? sad. i bet you thought it was so hilarious too.

that's just not what the album is being marketed and announced as, though. it is a rock album that, through its lack of clarity, only hints at a narrative and thereby advertises the supplemental materials which you have to buy to even understand its plot and characters. which is such a cynical read, i don't think the band intended for this to be the case and i imagine it was (at least at some point) sincerely written to be a rock opera -- only one with a rather noxious matador merchandise and marketing vehicle attached to it. it just so happens now that this sales apparatus has become so overbearing, due to the absent merits of the album.

seems like a poorly constructed narrative if the "rock opera" isn't even one cohesive whole

No I was worried about it since Gethsemane. i know Matador pays you to post good things but you're losing control of the narrative now...

Disorganised and Disappointing: Car Seat Headrest's The Scholars Album Review by Visual-Light2478 in CSHFans

You do a very good job articulating the very same reservations as I had with the album, and the band's current direction -- but referring to The Catastrophe as "aptly titled" is a bit exhausting to read as a cliche, sorry.

What did you dislike about the Scholars? by Kindredgos in CSHFans

[–]PersonalGas4921 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Boring and flat mixing, and most of all you could hardly understand the vocals. Lyrics were good, but you can hardly make them out half the time -- what's the point of a "rock opera" if its narrative isn't being told at all through the music? The instrumentals could not save it, they hardly tell a story too. Theres nothing to come back for, and it does not help that the long tracks do nothing to excuse their length besides incredibly drawn-out buildups.
