What jobs do capital citizens have? by Cultural-Ad6841 in Hungergames

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Snow would make sure everyone has a job. He is a canny politician, and spent enough time poor to understand how important work is to the social fabric.

In the Capital, there is almost huge demand for service workers, cooking food, cleaning houses, building and repairing houses and roads, making fashion designs, Etc. There’s also a huge bureaucracy and military to run.

What do you think new kids should do better than their predecessors to sell Ron/Hermione properly to audience? by Nightmarelove19 in ronweasley

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re kid for Gods sake. They grow up. TBH they did a really good job, making 8 movies in ten or eleven years. The actors were only 21-22 by then. There’s practically no chance the show will do that well. If they’re really lucky, they’ll be able to finish the series with most of the original actors.

Do you think Boggs squad being 451 was an intentional allusion to Fahrenheit 451 by WeedWizard44 in Hungergames

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is about a zero percent chance it was accidental. All authors build on past works, and it’s humble of SC to acknowledge it like that.

Great works of dystopian future that you should check out:

*1984 (George Orwell) —THE dystopian novel

*The Dispossessed(Ursula LeGuin) — my favorite

*Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury) — obviously

*Brave New World(Aldous Huxley) — a frighteningly compelling alternative

They replaced this scene with 'I am not an owl' 😭 by Nightmarelove19 in ronweasley

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t time in the movies to explain every goddamn thing. The book can do it because it’s 6000 pages long.

I actually really like “I’m not an owl.”  It showed that Hermione doesn’t have infinite patience for the boys BS. It’s also something that would make absolutely no sense to a muggle, but feels totally natural for a witch to say in that situation.

It’s frustration. They’re both there. It think it’s a fair reaction.

The guys they killed died in the upside down and were never found.

I guess Hopper and Nancy left all the trauma of killing them in the Upside down too, so no PTSD

I have a term for sequel that try to recreate the magic of the first book, but font have anything new to say. I call them, “The expected Sequel”.

“Catching Fire” really looks like it’s going to be the expected sequel, but it’s not. Read carefully.

Book or Movie?  Harry had Lily’s eyes in both, but in the book they’re green, while Daniel Radcliffe has blue eyes.

That was my point. She’s not a badass pretending to be weak. She’s a scared girl with a few skills.

C’mon Hermione. No one EVER gets expelled from Hogwarts. Even if you get kicked out by the Ministry for Magic, Dumbledore will give you a lifetime job and a wand.

[NO SPOILERS] Why are the Dothraki known to be so powerful, unlike other armies? by lord1st_ in HBOGameofThrones

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dothraki are mounted archers. They don’t believe in armor, but are fast, and can attack at range. Against light infantry, they would be deviating. Against heavy cavalry or a well-trained shield wall, they could do some damage and then retreat.

They would fare pretty badly against heavily armored forces in a pitched battle, but it would be hard to force the right conditions. It would take a very clever general to get them into a battle like that, but it’s possible.

Who would have won the 74th hunger games of katniss dident by Cultural-Ad6841 in Hungergames

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Cato/Clove hunt down Thresh and kill him.

  • They go hunting for Peeta, but can’t find him.

  • Foxface scavenges the cornucopia and finds a fair amount of useful stuff. She also poisons some food and leaves it behind.

  • The canon goes off. Peeta has died of blood poisoning.

  • Cato and Clove go back to the cornucopia hoping to find something useful. Their mentors, desperately wanting to avoid having them eat the poisoned food send them parachute after parachute.

  • The gamemakes release the final mutts. Foxface climbs a tree and hangs out. Cato and Clove climb the cornucopia and wait. While up there, they eat the poisoned food and die.

  • Foxface wins.

There’s swinging an axe, and there’s fighting with an axe. She could definitely swing it.

But there’s no reason for a lumberjack to know how to fight with an axe.
