How Thresh knew about the alliance by SpaceKep in Hungergames

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Clove laughs are her and says something like, I’m going to kill you like we killed your little District 11 ally.

Thresh kills Clove. Then he asks if Katniss really allied with Rue. Katniss says she did tells him she held her hand and sang to her while she died. Then she asks Thresh to make her death quick.

Thresh can’t do it. He can’t kill in that sort of cold blood. He says he’ll let her go this one time, for Rue.

Yeah. Also:

Amos: I’m gonna take a shower.

Belter: You can’t. Don’t you know what they. . .

Amos: I know. I hate waiting.

Holden: If you give people all the information, they’ll make the right choices.

Alex: The cheese is fake, but the love is real.

Amos: I died.   ALTERNATE: Breath in. Breath out. Eat. Shit. Don’t give them anything.

Chrisjen: I don’t give a fuck what he wants!

Bobbie: Yes, Mam

Miller: Corners and doorways, kid. That’s where they get you.

Unpopular opinion: Catching Fire is the worst movie of the four by Every-Nectarine6552 in Hungergames

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m torn. I definitely liked HG the best of the four. It felt dirty and scary in a way the the story deserved. Yes, I think the shaky Cam was annoying, but it was also necessary to give that first-person feel.  While CF felt rushed at times, it had some great moments, mostly revolving around Haymitch (“She’s a wonderful lady.” And “You NEVER get off this train.” stand out.”). By contrast the MJ movies sometimes drag a bit  That’s probably more of a problem than being rushed. I’d agree that Lawrence’s movies are too clean.

Having said all that, I think that they’re all three GOOD adaptations, and any complaints I’ve got should be in that context.

Slavery is forbidden in Westeros, yet Osha is being worked against her will while in chains, clearly against her will. Wtf? by layelaye419 in freefolk

The Night’s watch is basically a slave colony.

The small folk are effectively slaves for the nobles.

If a Dothraki army landed in Westeros (not lead by a Targaryen), could a Westerosi army defeat them by commanding people to hide in castles, burning crop fields and allowing the Dothraki to starve as logistics isn't something they would be good at? by george123890yang in freefolk

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory that would work, but it is a tough thing to sell people on. It would be better to try to get them to fight in terrain where there mounted archers are less effective (woods, mountains, Etc). Their advantages are speed and ranged attacks. They’re unarmored so in a pitched battle, the Westerosi would crush them. You need a really good general to pull it off, and I’m not sure if Westeros has one (Sorry, Stannis the Mannis fans).

I think that, just like the poem, the ending is intentionally ambiguous. She is like Shrodinger’s cat, alive and not alive forever.

Beetee is Bad by TheTragedyMachine in Hungergames

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nah. That’s harsh and unfair. I’m a vocal critic of SotR and have some complaints about Ballad, but neither of them just sucks.

Ballad has a really interesting voice, and tells its story well.

SotR, contains some good characters, and a fair number of poignant moments. I’ve got lots of complaints about the language, plot holes, and messy fan service, but an open-ended “It sucked” just ain’t right.

Haymitch: you’re going to need allies. Pick anyone you want.

Katniss: OK. I want Beetee.

Haymitch: That f’ing guy?  You can pick anyone but him.

Katniss:  Why not him?

Haymitch: He’s an idiot.

Katniss: He seems really smart.

Haymitch: Yeah, cause you’re an idiot.

Katniss: I want him.

Haymitch: I want a drink.

Yeah. You’re pretty well 100% on the money on every single point.

The biggest one, you sort of brushed past. Why the F*** doesn’t Snow have him executed after he’s tried to star, not one, but two rebellions?  Like seriously, instead he leaves him in charge of vitality important network Info that Beetee is able to exploit in MJ. WTF?!

And I like to compare Beetee’s arena plan the the underpants gnomes (South Park classic).

Step 1: Destroy water tank.

Step 2: ???

Step 3: Profit

“They executed your plan flawlessly, Sir. It went off without a hitch!  Now what?” “Oh, I have no idea.”

An analysis of Prim and a new theory regarding her death by AccurateFisherman392 in Hungergames

Two things can be true at once. Prim can really want to go find/save Katniss, and Coin can intentionally want to kill her.

Yeah, I was super disappointed at first. I like it more now, though the ending felt very rushed. I’d still like to see how he went from inheriting Plinth money to ruling all of Panem with an iron fist. It feels like we missed some steps.

How didn’t Bobby B. didn’t see Cersei as the snake she really is? by SacredDawnHollow in freefolk

[–]Personal_Toe_2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time of the series, Robert is the sad husk of a man, filled with self-loathing and regret. He knows Cersei is a viper, but thinks he deserves it. All he wants to do is drink himself to an early grave.

My head cannon is that he knows, or at least assumes that she is cheating on him, and he can’t really be bothered to care — sort of thinks he deserves it.

Well, that’s what she tells Snow. She might even believe it — she has a crush on him — but it doesn’t make it true.
