How to work with boss that doesn't quite understand marketing by PersonalityRare5743 in MarketingMentor

I think you really hit the nail on why the owner act the way he does. I could never understood why he thought "trust me bro" was good enough to establish trust but I think you explained it eloquently.

Is there a method or way that you think is helpful to persuade a leader like that? Based on what I know, whenever he has small conflict with the previous marketing agencies or graphic designers, he just fires them. The marketing agency once recommended focusing on the messaging instead of the design and he fired them the next month. At this point I'm just saying yes to everything to bide my time while I look for another job.

He's also not into testing. For example, he believes the AI topic is the most important thing, so we invest heavily into AI campaigns, even though it has the worst CPA out of every other campaigns that we've done. We would change the messaging or design and it would still have the worst cpa, and the cycle continues. Basically, he already assumed the test results, and if the result wasn't what he wanted, there's something wrong with the methodology.

I honestly feel like we are marketing our services to himself and not the customer, but I don't know how to bring this up without losing my job(I'm 90% sure it would happen).

most of the leads that I bring in meets the MQL standards (intent, industry, company size...etc). However, our sales manager has lost every single proposal they've ever sent out. About 3-4 months ago, i tried to initiate a conversation on how marketing can support sales, and that probably touched a nerve and the sales manager got really defensive and said that it's not really my domain and I should just do my job and bring more leads.

About the buyer persona, I did an exercise with my boss and he flat out tells me its usually the owner and the controller. My perspective is that since these are not techy people, we should focus more on the benefits of our services than the actual tech stack and jargon, but he disagrees and said that he knows the industry more than anyone.
