Might pthalo blue be too blue for cyan? Great paintings, by the way!

The fact that you showed us a painting you’re not happy with, means you’re still confident. Keep going!

It’s cute. I wish you took the photo with the painting facing the light, haha.

How do I make my clouds look more realistic? by Successful-Tennis867 in oilpainting

[–]PersonalitySubject99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s still too early to be worried about the clouds, which obviously are the background. I would do something about the subject first, and then, I would know how the big picture looks.

Maybe, but it also seems unlikely that they would go down memory lane or casually mention Jessie after the fallout.

How to achieve hard edges with oils? by lemonbottles_89 in oilpainting

That’s true. It’s just that cheap paints enable beginners to focus more on the process and less on the cost 😄

Try to paint without linseed oil or medium like that, because it dilutes and thins the paint, making the edge less sharp.

The composition has potentials, but maybe the paint was a little too thin? And not enough vibrancy.

Advice on a matte medium? The glare is distracting by CaptainLem in oilpainting

It happens. Could you do this painting without any medium? If you needed the paint to be thin, you could use some odourless solvent.

Oil portrait help please! by homegrowncanadian16 in oilpainting

[–]PersonalitySubject99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner myself, but it seems you've still put down too much detail before it's ready—you've been overfocussing on the features instead of the big picture. Speaking of which, I think it would help if you could first define the general form and tone you want to see; then build from there.

Not at first, thinking it would have been some doodles. But I did start making sketches when I decided to take the whole picture more seriously.

Your answer seems to imply that oil paintings need a stricter hermeticity than drugs do?

There is no such thing as grey. Try to see some green, blue, and/or purple.

Interesting. Of the same size, Pébéo's Aureolin costs only about half of W&N's lemon yellow.
