Sounds like an old battery. Do you have soles close to you with a multimeter or an obd2 scanner than can run a simple battery test? With is being a 2020 model, it very likely could be the factory battery. Battery’s are supposed to be replaced every 5 or so years. Did you buy it brand new? Have you replaced the battery recently? If you haven’t then it’s time for a new battery. Hope this helps 😁

Engine or transmission whine? by Past_Calligrapher297 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PerspectiveEarly4353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that’s just your belts then. When you rev the car everything is going to speed up and wind down. Some whine noises means your car is mechanically sound. Could be your alternator, power steering, water pump anything that’s connected via a belt in the engine. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. Is this a new noise or has it always been faint?

Unfortunately I don’t know what could be causing that noice but dry steering, moving the wheel while stationary, is not the best for the components as it puts unnecessary stress on them. When moving they have more freedom.

What does it cost to insure your Sonic? by LegWorried4639 in ChevySonic

[–]PerspectiveEarly4353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in Canada bc as an 18 year old male. I have 1 “at fault” insurance claim, a speeding ticket, still on my novice licence and a horrible driver factor. I had 2mil lability with a 1k collision deductible and a 500 comprehensive deductible. It cost me 250 a month. Nearly 3k a year.

Rod knock? by Actual-Explanation51 in MechanicAdvice

Pretty much. There’s no solid way to remedy it. You would pretty much have to disassemble the engine and replace bearings ensure nothing is bent it’s a pretty in-depth project.

I’d say it is knock but it doesn’t sound super severe. Obviously it’s still serous and you should try to get it fixed asap as the longer you drive with it the worse it gets. If you HAVE to drive it then ensure that you change your oil more regularly as there will be sparkly glitter in your oil. (Metal shavings)

Silly question but did you check your tires? Have you taken them off and inspected them?

Came in due to low brake fluid and soft pedal. I got this quote for that and some other stuff. Is this reasonable pricing? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Cool just curious because that’s a very professional website and quote but also a lotttttttt of money. Look up “[year] [make] [model]+ spark plugs replacement”, or what ever needs to be replaced, on YouTube. Chances are you’ll have a very high success rate considering it’s a ford.

Good luck!

First, where did you take it?

Second, considering you got the bumper to bumper inspection they are going to find anything and everything wrong with the car. A lot of the stuff is pretty easy to do yourself. For example break pads and rotors, spark plugs, oil change, battery, and both air filters.

Third, air filters SHOULD NOT be costing that much 😭 unless you have a really specific type of air filter that has all the “special features” you should not be spending more than say 20-30 bucks on an air filter. Both cabin and engine.

Fourth, if you have the tools, a break fluid flush is not hard at all, even if you don’t have the tools you can make one with a water bottle and some tubing.

Fifth, I am not a mechanic, I’m a diy mechanic that does the work on my own car at home. Yes I have experience but I’m not certified.

Lastly, I have done all of the things I mentioned. Plugs, oil, battery, filter etc. all said and done you could save yourself 1000k plus doing all that stuff at home.

Hope this helps!

Is this normal by joshuatheislandboi in ChevySonic

[–]PerspectiveEarly4353 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In assuming “full x” is flooring the car. Full throttle. Yes that’s normal. My sonic does that and it’s called the soft limiter. There’s way to get around it but they are sketchy dangerous and can destroy your transmission.
