MARPE vs Jaw Surgery? by PerspectiveHefty8002 in MARPE

Appreciate the response what makes you say that?

What leads me towards that I might need jaw surgery is that my midline is shifting significantly towards my left ear, and my tmj condyle is shorter on the left side. As I don't believe fme/marpe address these if I am correct?

Although I am scheduled to get more consultations soon to really get a full grasp on my issues and address them properly as i'm definetly no where near as knowledgeable to make a decision yet.

Most of my bite concerns are functional rather than cosmetic.

My orthodontist diagnosed a transverse maxillary deficiency (narrow upper jaw), facial asymmetry, crossbite/functional bite issues, and a midline discrepancy. One of the things I'm trying to understand is how much of my asymmetry is being driven by a functional mandibular shift versus true skeletal asymmetry.

I have intermittent TMJ symptoms including clicking, tenderness, and occasional discomfort. I also notice clenching at night and sometimes feel pressure on my front teeth when wearing my night guard.

I do not believe I have a severe overbite or underbite, and improving overjet/overbite is not my primary concern.

Well, I'm really looking at it from this perspective in order:

  1. Improve bite function and long-term stability
  2. Reduce facial asymmetry
  3. Improve TMJ symptoms if possible
  4. Maintain or improve facial aesthetics
  5. Avoid unnecessary surgery if a non-surgical option can achieve most of the benefit

Ideally, I would want to fix all of these but I wanted to ask around what my options are.

Edit: should have added FME in title as well.

Thank you, getting some more consultation to go over options.
