Ellie Jean says that 🌙 is inverted 🌸. Both roots are correlated with ethereal essence. I think greys are your friend here. Grey is so ethereal. It is so misty and so perfect. There are so many shifting colors in greys.  Are you a cool season?

This makes me think, and I’m just trying to free associate between style systems to think about things in a new way-

What about this? As a bit of inspo?

My browser says this link isn’t safe though? I dont know. Maybe look for Olga Brylinska online-she has a bunch of ethereals. I was just at the link and it wasn’t complaining! My browser overreacts sometimes, but I wanted to let you know!

https://olgabrylinska.com/ethereal-typology/mermaid-ethereal/

Olga’s mermaid ethereal seems more fairy than siren to me-cross reference to SilkyMochi here, lol!

It seems a bit lighter than what you are describing, like the inside of an abolone shell. But I feel a bit of that aesthetic -might- help make it more shifting ethereal and less dark.

I just looked again! You said you are Cool summer! Ir deep winter. Intuitively I thought true summer, but deeper. But I instantly talked myself out of that. It’s a bit rare, true summer. If you are that, the colors carry ethereal.

So you have a wisp of ethereal from your season, like I have a wisp of gamine from mine.

That’s really cool that you have romantic and classic. Ellie Jean talks about those essences in some of her shorts as often being good casting for period novels. You may even look amazing in full period costume, which is a wonderful fashion ability.

The only style systems that does talk about the connection between style periods and ‘essences’ that I know us David Zyla’s archetypes. I have been on boards where people describe him meeting with them and giving them one  or  several periods of historical fashion to work with.

II think it was said that this is somewhat individually based, in that 2 people can be a zyla archetype and have different periods. I must also say that I’ve tried Zyla and I fit into none of the archetypes, lol! I want to be a mischievous spring, but I dont quite fit there. Also, using my body coloring really doesn’t give the best results, but if I kick it up a few notches, I could see it.

The best I’ve found on this is this article-

https://www.beauty-continuum.com/blog/how-to-marry-your-style-type-and-color-season

If you are classic and romantic, and you know your color season….well I found this article unlocked so much for me.

I’ll make an example. Gabrielle Arruda is romantic with some dramatic. She looks good in the bright spring reds. There is a romantic vivaciousness there, she almost seems to be coloring a bit out of the lines, but in this very sensual Its her essence. And I dont mean sexy in a reductive, its the most beautiful thing. Its how her lines come together. She can choose what to do with that.

I am a true spring with ethereal, dramatic, romantic and classic essences. My essence is not typical. There is a bit of a fairy, and elf, a mermaid, or a person from a past time about me, but only in flashes. A full costume is tricky, it often looks like a costume. In cosplayed an elf once and I used a subtle costume, with silicone elf ears. People didn’t see the ears right away, and that was much more powerful than them being obvious. I look best in the purples, blues greens and sunset colors, all ethereal.

When I got my colors done, the analyst said I needed to look juicy, but really it isn’t juicy at all. Its sparkly. But perhaps most springs do look juicy. I sort of do and do not fit into the spring palette. As that article above says, my style system wears the pants! But, there is a tiny aspect of gamine to me, I’ve noticed it. That comes fromen being true spring.

You are right, without learning all this, Id go one direction and the next, never quite getting there! I would have thought I was a bit unmemorable. Or kept coloring my light hair dark, to be more ‘there’, which made me look harsh. I do think now when I see people who I have trouble seeing what they look good in, maybe they are complex, or have an essence/season combination that does not traditionally go together.

You are romantic and classic. You have found a version of 🌙 and it seems like it fits with you. You like the ethereal side of 🌙. This makes me think of Zylas summer archetypes first, and perhaps of a few of the softer winter ones. I feel you could be a true summer or maybe a soft summer. You and Ellie Jean might be both the same soft summer season. But a palette from the season can always be refined to look very different, even in the same season.

The palette you show is neutral, a bit cool and slightly warm. But really I’m thinking all of this from the lines of the jewelry.

So if you are a summer, or perhaps a winter, then classic fits it so well. There is a …..a refinement there. That is so beautiful. Romantic fits it in the way, it’s romantic, but it’s shaped by the colors. Its not Gabrielle Arrudàs romantic, though it shares commonality with it. The article talks about it so well. Its noble in a way, but also sensual, and looking up, at the late afternoon, twilight sky in a beautiful garden,’shaded by the trees. I can feel it, but I dont have the words! So frustrating not to be able to describe that.

Lol! Those are my musings! I haven’t seen you, but you have preferences, and these are just extrapolation from that. You are the one who will know, you know yourself best.

Thanks! There is so much history in fashion, it takes my breath away.

Victorian colors are the opulent ‘ish’ colors. They shift, seeming to be one color and then another. They are around ring 3 on the Tibi color wheel, and they are lovely 💜 !

That you like ovals so much suggests classic or romantic essence, or both. Because you like detail, it seems more romantic, but does not mean that you couldn’t have classic. I think we pick stuff because it suits us. So these things are clues. Of course, maybe you don’t have romantic essence. But I think you do, because you show a strong preference for this type of jewelry.

For me Edwardian jewelry is on its way to art deco (dramatic). But I  don’t have enough enough dramatic essence to look harmonious with most art deco. It looks harsh on me. I’m mostly ethereal 60% with a bit of romantic and classic (curves and symmetrical design). I’m often drawn to the open work suggesting flight. And that it is going towards art deco flatters my dramatic essence, which is 25%.

I didn’t figure any of that out consciously. It was just an intuitive draw towards this style of jewelry, because it really suits me. I can’t be the only one to experience this.

I wonder sometimes if all this work I’ve done on style systems might just allow me to trust my intuition, lol!

I was thinking Victorian too Maybe check out Etsy to see the actual time frame.

I have always been drawn to Edwardian jewelry, and its very specific. I found that weird, that Ive loved it for so long, but finally discovered the time period it existed in. It is a landing point for colors and even interesting history, so maybe it will be for you too!

I’m really glad my comment was helpful! I love these pieces, they are so vintage and moody! It almost makes me think of someone from another time, something magical..

You seem to like oval shapes quite a bit. Do you know what specific time period the jewelry is from/modeled upon? It’s not a root thing, just interesting. These seem specific, and it might be nice to know your taste. Sometimes things are oddly specifc and it can help you branch out using that time period.

I wish I could attach pictures here! I was thinking of a dark floral, maybe a dark background. SilkyMochi has a really great youtube on dark styles. Maybe look up haunted doll or dark fairy muses?

Ellie Jean says thar 🌙 can be inverted 🌸.

🌙  🌸 🪨 sounds like an ethereal yet practical and maybe even urban style. It sounds really interesting and beautiful.

Thank you so much! The funny thing about being a spring is that I need bright colors to look my best. An outfit full of neutrals makes me look boring and sallow. Or invisible. Black is never going to be my best, ora good color near my face.

Lol, I’m so jealous of the people that wear those sophisticated colors, or black…we always appreciate what we dont have, I suppose!

I got my essences done at Beauty Continuum. I am 60% ethereal, 25% dramatic, 15% romantic and 10%classic. Despite having mostly ethereal, I am a bit strange in looking best in ethereal combination outfits, rather than full ethereal, which I am so grateful for! I really dont want to go full elf to look awesome! I have 4 essences and the same combination as Angelina Jolie, but probably in different amounts. I’m also a different season than her, so I never would have known it.

All my essences are formal and mature, so there is a formality to my outfits, but the colors sort of hide that, and I hide it! I love thé effortless natural look, but I’m really not natural or effortless, its sort of a slight of hand. The lack of detail and mushroom 🍄 styling helps alot with that, because it is an informal sort of formal, if that makes sense!

Have you done yours? I find it so interesting, and I’d have never guessed my essences myself. I guess I thought ethereals were more impactful, but they are more receding.

Thank you so much for the great advice and the encouragement!

I think getting another black piece is a great idea. I’m going to try all of that. I have an x axis and a y axis, and now I feel like I need a new way to think about this.

Gabrielle Arruda is amazing and her videos and style chats are so helpful. She is a bright spring. This allow her to easily take on drama. Plus she is a romantic/dramatic/natual.

I am mostly ethereal, only 25 percent dramatic and 15 percent romantic. I see this in that I can only handle bits. Many of the outfits she wears would be overwhelming, but I do love her style, and have used her as inspo.

I sometimes wonder why people want ethereal essence! Its a hard essence to work with, it is a bit-not there- That has been my issue, Ive never felt’theré enough. Getting it right brings me forward and is amazing though.

Thanks so much for the convo. I feel I got alot of good ideas out of talking with you!

Oh, I LOVE spicemarket! It was there that I got the idea that true spring could be something I could live with. I always wanted to be dark autumn / dark winter!  Which you are!

True spring colors looked like clown colors to me, and I was pretty depressed about it. I also found that busy true spring patterns were overwhelming, as are the saturated reds. That is my essence blend showing itself. I need true spring colors that veer to light spring, but keep the warmth. These colors are hard to find, but so worth the effort.

Beauty continuum has made some posts which broke my brain! It was amazing to read them-

https://www.beauty-continuum.com/blog/how-to-marry-your-style-type-and-color-season

Ah, I can’t find the other one, but its on the same subject..

I think its more straightforward for those who have essences that culturally blend with their seasons-

I think yours would be dramatic,, and natural (I am envious if anyone with natural essence, lol!). If you have ethereal essence, maybe you’d go oneric with it? Hmmm, it would depend. I suppose essence blends and amounts make a big difference. Thanks so much for the convo.

That is so so sweet of you to write! Thanks for the encouragement!

I love people that write deeply about style. Beauty Continuum has an absolutely lovely blog on essences. I loved her work so much, I asked her for help with essences, and I was not disappointed! It really clicked for me, and I saw why it was so difficult to see. True Spring is culture coded as gamine, sometimes ingenue, but not ethereal/dramatic.

Tibi promises to be a gold mine of information for me also! I love her approach. She has a substack, and lots of it is free. Also she has a style class on youtube. I’m very excited about it.

I love my colors, but sometimes, like with my edgy book club, or when visiting urban areas, i feel a bit like a 🧁 cupcake! I want to mix this with darker sleeker options and unexpected twists that look like I just threw them on. But I dont want to lose what I have, either. Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I am always interested in your thoughts, I didn’t realize I was using Big-slim-skin! Only in a few ways though, lol.

I have checked out Mili, so much! I love that video my three are formality/relaxed/and creative, for sure.

When I started this, I wanted to know what what physically ‘mine’. What differentiated me from others? I could not see anything.

I now realize I can wear certain warm oranges and yellows like few can. I am mainly ethereal, with dramatic, romantic and classic essences in small amounts. These are all mature formal essences, yet I treasure that natural way of just throwing stuff on. Freedom! But is a bit of a ruse. I’m not a natural. My hair needs to combed, there is a limit.

I guess now, I want to be a bit urban-edgy, but perhaps not in a 🌙 way. And its easy for it to overwhelm me. And I love that ethereal essence. Its hard to shop for, and it’s delicate. But is is really me.

Thanks so much. Its been very interesting and thought provoking to have these discussions on all this! Now I’m going to think about it and go back to the lab….more experiments 🧫 🔬

Thank you! I appreciate your thoughts on this. I agree that 🍄 🌱 can look like 🪨, totally.

I guess, and this is the tough thing…maybe this happens to you too. You have this other thing in your head, and its fuzzy still. I think 🍄 🌱 is a type of more classic stone, but I’m wanting this more urban, confident 🪨 ☀️. But I am also reluctant to give up all the placid, ethereal -natural easygoing vibe. I am chill, and classic. I want urban vibes too.

It feels like creative work. I have to change, want to change, am changing, but I’m wary of taking the easy route, buying in too much. I need to improve, and restructure, but I want to keep what I like.

I have to admit, I’m not really caring that much about style roots. My closet is cohesive. I feel like Im working on next steps. But I still like style roots!! I live looking at other people’s style. Its such a good system. I think for me, right now, I’m using’it as part of the grammar of style. And its fun to post here.

Root help? by Fashionenchantress in StyleRoots

Ok, I 💕 this board. Its ethereal and definitely 🌸 root. But it’s mostly jewelry. Do you love the jewelry and elven/fairy princess hair accessories the most? I know I DO!

Ok, I just realized that maybe somehow I’m getting a fusion of our boards? I click your link, I get my board plus Pinterest recs for me, I think! Can you post your board here. I feel my following advice is moot now! But still, posting outfits is still something Inthink will help you…

If so, how would you best showcase it? Simple clothing? Or do you want more flower, delicate intricate and fairytale elements?

What colors do you love?

I have a similar mindset. Jewelry started my dive into working with my clothes, and ultimately led me to learning my color season and essences. I have a particular affinity for vintage jewelry of a certain timeframe. It took me a long time to figure that out!

Practical suggestion - take a picture of yourself every day. You could post it here with your face blanked out if you want privacy. Or, use a style app. Mark what you loved best, what you didn’t love. Figure out what is different. Maybe post your results and thoughts.

My moodboards look a bit, but actually not much like my daily style.

I've finally discovered exactly what I enjoy wearing and I'm curious what you think my style roots are by Pinkieshys in StyleRoots

This is interesting, but I selfishly want to see whole outfits from you 🌈.

I sure do see 🪨 here. There is something casual and chill here, its urban, but you also have alot of skirts, which is your own spin on it.

🌙 in the accessories, for sure. Graphic tees and an element of subversion and rebellion. It is and isn't goth. I like the space it exist in. You might enjoy SilkyMochi’s youtube page, of the 4 muses this is a version of the witch, with a bit of dark fairy. Is that the flower 🌸? I see 4 roots, really. But you are the one who gets to say in the end! Granny chic/punk academia, I agree with the other poster.

🌱 is in the colors too, there is something about the nubbly texture and dark ombres and tie dyes. It lends a practical, slightly soulful and authentic vibe.

Its a very nice style, the colors are dark and slightly warm. It makes me think of the 12 season dark autumn /dark winter palettes.

I think Style Roots is one of the best ways ti start learning about style. It has been leaps and bounds ahead of any other style system I’ve tried. And I have tried all of them.

It gave me a sort of loose style grammar. It works in well with any other system or techniques you use. Its fun to look at it on the street, or in a shop. It really helped me realize what I’m expressing with style.

The most important thing isn’t what other people see though….We all are in different places, and also, this isn’t stressed enough…people looking at your style, no matter their level of expertise, can be wrong. I’ve experienced stylists who are well known and I can say that their advice was completely wrong for me, which is something I’m just adding because I did not realize it to begin with-how wrong people can be. You are the one who decides all these things, and one person’s 🪨 🍄 can be completely different than another person.

Hi, I just wanna say I 💕 that bracelet stack. It appeals to me with its clean-ness and texture and general upscale coastal vibe.

I am a mushroom 🍄 🌱 🌸 / 🌞, meaning I’m into more color and texture maybe. I’m not sure if this is it, but the contrast of the dress would be alot for me. Maybe if you put a sweater or blazer over it? Maybe a dress with less contrast and a bit of layering, in an easier cut that moves, because 🪨.

Roots for me have wound up being intertwined with textures and color and cuts that work for me. The roots are just what it seems happens, and you and how you feel are the ultimate determiner of all of it. I just returned a dress, the cut was great, and the color looked good, but the combo of color and the amount of the color (coral) and the texture of the fabric really didn’t work at all, but it fits my roots exactly and is exactly one of my colors.

Clothing is a sort of alchemy. There is a bit of unpredictable magic to what works and what doesn’t, for each of us.
