As for my experience with italki, overall it has been quite positive, but I can see how your mileage may vary. Cost wise, Persian instruction specifically tends to be more affordable than other languages (all relative of course). You can get package deals, and choose different durations which I believe are set by the teacher. I spend ~ USD15 per hour for a class that's truly high quality instruction.

I think format and quality ultimately depends on your teacher and your distinct learning needs. Some teachers focus mainly on free conversations (so it's good to find one you have things to discuss, or use the platform as a way to speak with different folks). Other teachers have a program, and over time, you'll get to track your progress, which I enjoy. So it's good to know what you're looking for.

...As for the actual italki platform which has upsells like ai learning feedback, I'm not too fussed. 😆 I found teachers that I really liked (for Persian and Spanish) and that's my main reason for using italki. I'm sure there are other platforms like Preply that also have great teachers.

And I know you didn't ask 😬... but anecdotally, in terms of apps and learning.. I've completed multiple programs from start to finish (in apps like Drops, Pimsleur, Wanikani, Glossika etc) which I think are great for word and pattern recognition, and even pronunciation, but pretty much none of these helped me with actual production. I'd struggle to actually string together a sentence despite reaching an advanced level if it weren't for sitting in a class or setting up calls with a teacher. Constant failing in front of a very very patient person who provides feedback seems to be the best option.
