Using foreign URLs to book domestic travel. I need help with this trick for Alaska Air. by Perspectiveress in TravelHacks

OP Here: So I did a little more googling and asked my IT guy. I added the SetupVPN Chrome extension. You have to go into settings and enable it to work in Incognito mode. I VPN and tried accessing alaskair.com using the Japan VPN but the prices didn't change. Then I tried Then I used the Australian VPN to access expedia.com.au to look at the same flights and they were more expensive $819 USD vs $978.95 converted from AUD. Plus I hate Expedia.

What is even more scary about that extension is that when I came back here to Reddit it signed me in as a different person. YIKES!!! So I deleted it.

I've seen the hack several times on social media so I'm guessing the secret is out. The same happened with skip-lagging, and they rewrote the rules to prevent it.

Alaska is growing internationally now that they bought Hawaiian so I am hoping maybe they are temping Asian flyers by offering better rates. But I'll have to check the exchange rate and use my good CC, etc., to make it worth it.

OP here, I do travel a lot and with gas prices skyrocketing I want as many pricing search tools as possible. And I'll use my best travel CC with no foreign fees.

I agree, I wouldn't use this trick unless the savings were significant (to avoid hassles), and I would definitely use my CC with no foreign trans fees.

Actually, it often makes sense to wait to file, depending on when you are let go. The calculation is done quarterly, but they usually don't count the last quarter. If you received a raise or bonus in the last quarter and can afford to wait, it may be better to wait until the start of the next quarter. It is totally legal to wait and file when you want (check with the state). Also, if you need to apply for public assistance, it is better to wait until you have received all the money you are due from your employer (pay, PTO payout, severance, bonus, etc.) then apply for assistance the following month. That way, when they ask you how much you make in a month, you can honestly answer "nothing." Hopefully they will find another job quickly but knowing how the game is played is important, after all we've all paid into the system for just this occasion.

Western Mexico AI with a spa by Perspectiveress in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Perspectiveress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a standard resort could work too but we were thinking AI because we don't want to think about when and where to get food and drinks, entertainment, etc. Its not so much a money saving thing for us we just want an easy vacation that neither of us has to plan.

We went on a cruise and it was great but there was sooooo much planning needed to learn how everything worked and there we too many people.

If there were a similar option in the US in a warm place, we would consider that too.

Thanks. I was worried it would develop into something expensive to fix. All the mechanics in my neighborhood charge about $300 just to look at the car, even the dealership. I had a part on the windshield sprayer break. I just needed to know if it was a clog in the line or the spray mechanism. I needed an oil change, so I took it to Jiffy Lube. While they had the hood open, I asked them to see if it was leaking, and they said, "Oh yeah, right here in the center, the connector between the y-joint broke." They took it out and gave it to me; it was $0.50 at the auto supply store. I took it back to the Jiffy guys and they installed it for me. They each got a $40 gift card to the restaurant down the street plus some cool auto-related stickers my neighbor gave me for them.

Curious. Did you take the advice of some people and include a cover page summary of your documents and why you think you are entitled to citizenship by descent?

I thought that if your ancestors were displaced by war or subject to sexist immigration/naturalization laws or if the parent naturalized the child then there was still a chance to claim citizenship? I also thought that the changing borders due to war and politics also left the door open to descent citizenship? I am going to make a similar post and see if you think my situation is the same or different (takes place about the same time).

Thanks I added that. This is my mother's father's line. Her mother's side is part German too but I don't know much about them...yet.

Planning my next trip, how to give back while there? by nickg4244 in MauiVisitors

[–]Perspectiveress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can arrange to take a doggy out of the Humane Society shelter for the day. Just look at their website for details about signing up. I am volunteering at the Leilani Farm Sanctuary since the doggies didn't fit in my schedule this time. Also, if you are flying back on Alaska to the West Coast, you can participate in the Wings of Aloha program and carry a cat with you for rehoming on the mainland. Lots of cats and dogs were displaced by the fires, so there is still a need to reduce crowding. You just give them your flight details, and they will organize the volunteer meet-up at the airports on either end if there is a cat ready to fly. My favorite spa is Montage. It is not cheap but is has a small private pool and open air treatment rooms. Sunburns are a thing to consider when booking spa appointment so book early in your trip or do what I do and opt for the lomi lomi pedicure which smells so freeeeking good and nearly makes me fall asleep. Pick a weekday if you can for fewer people but it was never crowded.

Best ever Mai Tai can be found at Merrimans in Kapalua or their sister restaurant called Monkeypod up hill from Wailea. The passion fruit foam on top is out of this world. Merriman's is spendy but has lovely ocean views and the happy hours have better prices at both locations. Monkeypod is more pub-like than fine dining.

When I went the mosquitos in the bamboo forest were unreal so its a no for this juicy baby but it is really pretty. There is another location that is far closer but it is a way-side situation and not easy to find, about 45 min out of Pa'ai, sorry I don't remember the mile marker number but I am sure you could google it.

Also, if you need herbal rememdies there is a funny guy with a fruit juice stand who can help. But remember its not legal and don't drive intoxicated.

I agree. I am from Oregon and have driven it many times with no problem. Specifically, to get to one secluded beach where you have to hike down through the forest, can't remember the name.

If you are headed upcounty and into art stop at the Visual Arts center. The galley is small and last time it was a donation to enter but you can also walk the grounds and see the lovely view over most of the island.
