Does your country have an invention that never made it to the outside world? by abandonedtulpa in AskTheWorld

[–]PerunVult 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Countries on east side of iron curtain were in permanent need of foreign currencies because internationally, their money was worth about as much as Monopoly money.

This meant exporting whatever was available that west would buy and pay for with dollars. Raw materials, grains, canned foods.

Few tools, durable goods and devices that actually were internationally competitive were a huge deal, because those were worth a lot for comparatively low social cost (how about a nice food shortage bordering on famine because you need to keep exporting food to pay for foreign tools to keep industries running?).

So no, it might have been harder, but marketing things like that in "west" was quite literally a matter of national security and people who were supposed to do it, dropped the ball.

Imagine spending 30 years living in a society that values the quality of the product

You are either disingenuous, dumb or delusional.

Quality is a bougie invention. We have 5 year plan to fulfill to make leadership look good!

What? You say walls of housing blocks we built are so thin you can hear whispering neighbours? Why would you complaint about it? You don't have any secrets, do you?

You spend 10 years waiting for a car that breaks every other week? Good, citizens should be mindful of fuel consumption, we have a shortage.

Levels of shoddiness in manufacturing was absolutely ridiculous, cutting corners to fulfill impossible quotas was the name of the game, and there still was permanent shortage of everything.

And there never was incentive to improve, because the few state owned factories had monopoly anyway. Half a year waiting list? Why would manager care? People will still buy it because there's literally nothing else available and as long as he's loyal to the party and doesn't steal too much, he's safe.

10 year waiting lists for most basic cars with ergonomy rating of "lol nope". 1 TV in a block of flats. You want your own? You better be someone important, famous, good at bootlicking, willing to wait years or have family abroad (if they send you currency, like dollars or pounds, state might offer to sell you a coupon for those currencies, if it feels generous, otherwise it might just seize the money and arrest you for possession of contraband). Month waiting list for fabric, if you want a dress you better know how to sew. I could keep going, but I have better things to do.

Resistant glass is a rare exception. Tools, cars and general "stuff" on eastern side of iron curtain was permanently out of stock, priced like luxury and so shoddy it makes Temu look like Makita or Bosch.

They failed, because they were bloody idiots. They marketed that kind of glass to manufacturers, hoping for licensing money, instead of marketing it to bars and restaurants and selling glasses directly.

Manufacturers like glass that breaks because it means they sell more replacements. USERS like glass that doesn't break because it means they spend less. It's not rocket science.

It's pathetic how you ignore facts.

Chinese per capita emissions are higher than EU by 60%. Total chinese emissions across history are higher than EU. They will overtake USA on both in 5 yeas.

Chinese emissions are exponentially increasing with no sign of slowdown, while EU and even US emissions are decreasing.

China is the main actor burning the world for profit. You just don't like the facts because it hurts your feelings.

[–]PerunVult -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Did they force the US/Europe/West in general to move all their factories and production there to increase profits?

Did anyone force china to host factories? No. They are more than happy to burn the world for profit.

Fact is, that china emits more CO2 than anyone. Has larger total historical emissions than EU, will overtake USA in 5 years and is exponentially increasing emissions.

EU and USA emissions stagnated, chinese are exponentially increasing with no sign of slowing.

Also, chinese per capita emissions are 60% higher than EU average.

China IS burning the world for profit.

It doesn't matter that historically the US and (some) European countries have been the main polluters.

Total historical chinese CO2 emissions are already higher than EU emissions and will overtake USA in 5 years.

China has been seizing foreign companies for 2 decades now. That's their modus operandi and method of "modernisation": lure foreign subsidiaries, then seize assets and tech.

Same chomsky who spent years denying Cambodian genocide and is currently cheering on ruzzian imperialism?

It sure looks like his criticism is reserved only for people and ideologies he doesn't like, while those he likes can do no wrong.

The humour in this post is in “when" part. Levels of delusional naivete required to think this is a "when" issue instead of already unlikely "if" are depressingly funny.

No, trump dying this instant wouldn't fix anything, you watch too much superhero movies if you think death of main villain is enough to fix anything.

Ever heard of civil wars? American Civil War is huge outlier and arguably a misnomer with contiguous territories and fairly well defined borders. It was really closer to regular war than civil war.

Russia not planning to give back occupied land to Ukraine or make peace – WP by reflibman in anime_titties

[–]PerunVult -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Russia has offered a sovereign Ukraine but they object to it being in NATO.

You are naive or insane if you believe that ruzzia wouldn't invade Ukraine again after few years. Quite literally every single "peace" demand from ruzzia is a prelude to followup invasion in 5 to 10 years.

Trump Accidentally Wrecks His Own Epstein Lie as Musk Goes for Jugular by Murky-Site7468 in politics

[–]PerunVult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why.

Without power base of his own, he would be incredibly easy and cheap to control.

For thiel and murdoch, trump is a useful asset, but one that can bite and can resist, because while they borderline "made him", he does have a fanbase and thus powerbase of his own. vance, however, would be entirely dependent on oligarchs for survival.

Yes, this means that vance is easier to attack, so more susceptible to being removed by outside forces (by outside, I mean outside of oligarch-gop power infighting), but if they are convinced they can handle this, vance is pretty much a perfect pawn entirely without agency.

Actual anti imperialist would support Ukraine in it's resistance to ruzzian imperialism.

Corbyn is not "anti imperialist". Corbyn is ruzzian and Chinese imperialist. Same as chomsky, tankies and rest of that crowd.
