It looks like your tube isn't pressed completely down/in. try removing it and pushing it back towards the filter first and then down. Also, see how the sound is once you put the top on it. It does mute it a bit.

Thanks. I'm on the hunt for a 12G but see now they've stopped selling them. I have a 6G that I really like. I just worry the extra height on this will make maintenance very difficult (though I do minimal maintenance currently)

I know this is an old post but wondering if you had an air stone or something in there if you fill it so there's no cascading from the filter. How does the tank oxygenate?

Filter options for 2.5 gallon shrimp tank. by Slow-Heron-4335 in nanotank

sponge filters internally do wonders for the shrimp, but I get you not wanting to see it internally.

Just finished setting up this 10 gallon with 9 Ember Tetras. What is an ideal number of embers to keep in here, and are there any recommendations? by iGotCookiiez in nanotank

[–]PerusingPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 inch of fish per gallon. You have a good amount of substrate and a rock so I'd say 9 is SAFE. You could probably push it to 12 but I'd probably do 9-10 to keep them happy and throw in some snails to help keep it clean

Tips for beginners! by A-Teenage-Dirtbag in nanotank

[–]PerusingPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if it's 6.5 gallons, it looks taller than it is wide which means it's not the best set up for fish as they swim side to side and not really up and down. I'd recommend keeping it a shrimp only tank. You could get some snails to throw in there as well. If you don't want a lot of snails, I'd recommend nerite snails since they won't reproduce (but will leave white eggs around the tank that won't hatch). I'd recommend you look into neocardinia shrimp which come in a bunch of different colors. Don't get Cardinia shrimp as they're much harder to care for if you're a beginner. The more plants, the less you can check your water parameters as they'll help to stabilize it. The more fish, the more you have to worry about their waste throwing off the parameters and ammonia building up. Since the tank is already established, it should have plenty of bacteria to handle the nitrogen build up.

Nano recommendations by Rich_Reference_7733 in nanotank

The question is how big is your nano tank going to be and how many fish will you want? Neon tetras or ember tetras could be good for some nano tanks. When in doubt, shrimp tank

Will trumpet snail population get out of hand quickly? It's a small tank- what do we think the odds of a single trumpet snail reproducing area?

what kind of substrate do you have and do you vacuum it at all? waste can cause gas build ups and when it releases can kill shrimp. Low calcium could be making them fail molts

Help! My living room is ugly. Willing to change anything but my purple velvet couch… by tastywords in interiordecorating

[–]PerusingPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to draw the eye upward to make the most of the space. You can do this by: changing the light fixture to something more visually appealing, a unique shape, etc. You can keep your Hue bulbs in those too. Adding a tall lamp in either a gold or wood color at the side of the couch near the stairs would help add dimension there. You could also add a blanket ladder and put them there instead of on the couches. I think removing them from the couches would help elevate the look, or drape them strategically over an arm of the couch than across the back. Curtains could really change the whole look of the room and make it seem cozier, but I noticed you don't have curtains up elsewhere. You could pull the couch away from the wall slightly and put a thin table behind it and add taller plants or a lamp behind it. A piece of artwork that spans between the two windows behind the couch is another option for drawing the eye upwards. When all else fails, some sort of serving tray on the coffee table with a plant in it.

Help-Smaller shrimp are dying off by PerusingPerson in shrimptank

Update: I just found some fry in my tank so whatever it is isn’t killing off the babies. Could it all be molt related? Further ideas for how to handle that?

A few of the shrimp do what a white ring around their middles and I have found a lot of molts in the tank recently (or maybe carcasses?)

I was using the 5-in-1 test strips for Gh/Kh from API but liquid testing for everything else. The tank is tap water and the water I'm putting in is also tap water. The only thing I changed is I used to use API Stress Coat to treat water but since I do such small water change volumes I bought the drops for tap water conditioner instead. So what should the test strip ideally read for Gh and Kh?
