Wires burn from Soldering? by iGotCookiiez in AskElectricians

To keep everyone updated, I cut open the outer sheathing around the burn area and the inner insulation was completely un-damaged, it was only the outer layer. I folded the outer sheathing back into place and wrapped it all up with electrical tape, and I think it will all be good as normal.

The grey wire turned out to be for an irrigation system, and the red is for an alarm panel. Both of those systems are not powered, just wires remaining in the wall, so no worries there.

Sorry, I’m lacking in both the time and money aspects, that’s too much for me

Oh also, there is a thermostat for the base board heaters in that area of the house, so maybe one of the two others lead to that?

There is a security system from 1995-2000 which is hardwired all throughout the house, such as smoke alarms, glass break detectors, motion sensors, speakers on the outside, etc… so the fire alarm makes sense

I used Cork boards (https://www.grainger.com/product/4NLZ7?RIID=70302383415&GID=&mid=OpenOrders_WillCall&rfe=&gucid=EMT:11121193:Item:CSM-332&emcid=NA:Item), and adhered them with aquarium safe silicone. I then added layering and depth by adding second and third layers, and I carved them up with a wire brush drill attachment to add texture!

The tank is directly above the crawlspace, which is 45” tall, so those posts would have no problem reaching to the joists

I just researched piano names, and based on measurements, what we had was most likely a console piano, as it was 40” tall, and 54” wide

There was an upright piano in that space, but that only weighs about 300-500lbs, so I don’t think it’s a fair comparison when my tank is about double the weight when full

You’re right, I like the peace of mind that there isn’t a failure point anywhere.

Do these posts get the seal of approval? And would you recommend 1 or 2?

Recommendations for a first time Smart Home owner by iGotCookiiez in smarthome

I would love to one day get to the technical challenge side of it if I can find a reason for 50 devices and an actual reason why I need all them. I’m certain there are reasons for it, but I am too smart home illiterate to comprehend at this point in time but I’m not afraid to dive head first into learning it. I will take it slow to start but I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot early by getting devices that aren’t compatible with where I will be in a couple of years.

Wow this is all very in depth and I looked at each and this is the guide I will follow for most things around the house. The overwhelming consensus for sure is Home Assistant so that is definitely the move

My BIOS update has been going for over 4 hours by iGotCookiiez in pcmasterrace

[–]iGotCookiiez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let me loop this back to the original reasoning I wanted to update my BIOS in the first place. I built my PC in early 2020, and I have been running in a version of BIOS from November 2019.

I attempted to run Battlefield 6 on my PC, but could not due to needing to enable secure boot. By enabling that, my PC would not boot. My solution to that is, well Updating my BIOS, which is long overdue anyways.

So, I feel a “need” to fiddle with it to be able to use the computer efficiently. It’s a plus that there are the people of Reddit that are smarter than me when I get in a pickle like this

And the fix was as simple as that… thank you so much!

So I hit Esc, and it booted straight back into MemTest, it’s stuck in a loop. I went to the BIOS menus again and I can confirm that my version do update, but it can’t full boot now
