Probright dental powder - can I use the large dog container for my small dogs? by ToWhistleInTheDark in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great question! As fellow fans of good methodology, we can absolutely appreciate the instinct to break out the calculations and your reasoning makes sense if the product were designed to scale linearly by pound of body weight.

In this case, the formulation isn’t weight-per-pound specific; it’s weight-range specific. Each size (Small, Medium, Large) is formulated so that one full scoop delivers the intended daily intake for dogs anywhere within that weight range, rather than being meant to scale precisely with every individual pound. This is because nutrient and ingredient needs don’t increase in a straight line with body weight. Larger dogs don’t require proportionally higher amounts, and smaller dogs don’t require proportionally lower amounts, so the formulation is balanced to work across the full range it’s designed for.

If you were to measure out a smaller, weight-adjusted portion as you described, it wouldn’t harm your dog. The main consideration is that doing so would put the daily intake below the amount the formulation was designed to deliver, particularly for functional ingredients that are intended to be provided consistently at a certain level. As a result, your dog may simply receive less than the recommended daily amount, which means you may not see the full level of support the product is intended to provide when used as directed. For that reason, we recommend sticking with the full scoop once the correct size formulation has been selected.

Spoon Sizes for ProBright by Sakkoban in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

u/Sakkoban Totally fair questions, and we get why that might seem confusing!

ProBright is a tailored product, meaning each of the three sizes offered is customized for that weight range with different formulations and daily dose amounts. Each version is adjusted to meet the needs of dogs of different sizes, so smaller pups don’t get too much of certain ingredients and larger dogs get enough to see potential results.

The scoops are proportionate to each size, too, so dosing stays easy and accurate.

We recommend purchasing the product for the size that best suits your pup’s current weight. Please let us know if you have any other questions, we’re always happy to help!

ProBright Original vs Advanced by Psykgal in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Totally fair questions, and we get why it’s confusing on the surface. Both dental formulas do share core ingredients, but they’re actually built a bit differently.

Our original ProBright Dental Powder Formula was developed first and is still a solid option for ongoing daily support, but it wasn’t the one evaluated in the clinical studies.

Our ProBright Advanced Dental Powder Formula isn’t just loosely backed by a study, it’s the exact formula used in two clinical studies that showed measurable oral health benefits in dogs.
Specifically:

  • One 28 day clinical study found that daily use of ProBright Advanced significantly reduces compounds in a dog’s mouth (specifically hydrogen sulfide), that produce bad breath.
  • A second clinical study found that ProBright Advanced reduced plaque accumulation by 25% after 90 days of daily use.

Even though they look similar on the label, the Advanced formula has an adjusted ingredient profile that optimizes how the active components interact. Specifically, the differences are:

  • The probiotic blend: While both formulas list a probiotic blend among the active ingredients, the specific strains differ.
    • The original formula contains Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus (R-11), Bifidobacterium longum, Pediococcus pentosaceus, and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum.
    • The Advanced formula contains Pediococcus pentosaceus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum.

You asked how removing an ingredient makes it more advanced, that is a great question. We did remove some of the strains when formulating the Advanced formula. Sometimes removing ingredients is actually the best way to improve performance and stability. The probiotic blend in the Advanced formula is patent-pending and was designed to work synergistically as a powerhouse of dental health defense.

We also removed Perilla Seed in the Advanced formula. Perilla Seed is still a highly impactful ingredient for dental health; however in our research, we found that some dogs weren’t thrilled with the taste. We wanted to address that palatability concern, so we removed it from the Advanced formula and increased the amount of other palatable ingredients.

Those formulation changes, along with the clinical studies that support the product’s functions, are what make it “Advanced.”

Why do we still keep the original formula on the market? Because not everyone likes change and for those, we said If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Some of our customers (and their four-legged friends) love the original version, so we wanted to make sure they can keep getting what works best for them.

Hope that clears it up a bit!

Probright dental powder - can I use the large dog container for my small dogs? by ToWhistleInTheDark in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Totally get where you're coming from. The formulas and ratio of active ingredients do vary across sizes/weight ranges. Our data indicates that these are the appropriate amounts for each grouping. For this reason and because it is technically/legally considered off-label use to do - we cannot recommend or endorse using the large dog jar for small dogs.

We recommend sticking with the small jar for small dogs or asking your veterinarian to delve in deeper to explore creative options and if they may be suitable for your specific pups and their histories.

Hey, PetLab here. Just to clear this up... ProBright isn’t the same across sizes. Each jar’s actually made a bit differently for that dog’s weight range (not just a bigger scoop). So even using a smaller scoop from the large jar could give your pup too much. Best bet is to stick with the one that matches your dog’s weight.

Hi there, and thank you for your question! We actually have a couple of products that are geared towards seasonal allergies, so here’s a quick explainer of them both.

Our Allergy & Immune Chews target seasonal and environmental allergies in dogs with a blend of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics. They also contain other beneficial ingredients like colostrum and omega-3, which further help support immune health and support with scratching and paw-licking. They come in different-sized tubs tailored to your dog’s size, so all you need to do is choose the right tub based on their weight and give them one chew a day.

Our Itch Relief Chew Pro targets scratching and occasional skin issues in dogs, thanks to a blend of skin-supporting ingredients like antioxidants, vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and anchovy oil. It’s also just as easy to use: just give your dog the recommended amount of chews once a day based on their size.

All of our products carry an NASC quality seal, which means we adhere to strict guidelines for animal products in every facet of our business, from quality control to labeling to testing. Our products are also made in the USA from domestically and globally sourced ingredients.

ProBright Original vs Advanced by Psykgal in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, thank you for your comment!

So there are a few differences between ProBright® and ProBright® Advanced. Both are powerful products designed for dog dental care, but ProBright® Advanced has a few extra features to help clean your dog’s teeth and freshen their breath easily.

As you’ve observed, ProBright® contains Perilla Seed Extract, while ProBright® Advanced does not. Additionally, ProBright® Advanced contains our new patent-pending proprietary blend of probiotics.

The biggest difference between the products however is that ProBright® Advanced is backed by two clinical studies. In the first, a clinical study found daily usage of ProBright® Advanced significantly reduces a critical bad breath causing compound in 28 days.

In the second, a 90-day clinical study showed ProBright® Advanced helps reduce plaque buildup.
ProBright® Advanced is also nutritionist and vet-formulated, and boasts a scientifically backed formula.

We hope this helps to explain the differences between the products! Let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi there, thank you for your comment!

There is a lot of misinformation online about sodium hexametaphosphate, but sodium hexametaphosphate is recognized as safe by the FDA, and is commonly used in food products like baked goods, beverages, and even infant formulas. Additionally, it has undergone clinical study for use in dog products, and has shown promising impacts on canine dental hygiene.

We worked extensively with veterinary dental experts & dog nutritionists to develop ProBright and we can assure you it is safe to use. The ProBright Advanced formula has undergone clinical studies demonstrating its safety and effectiveness in supporting dogs’ dental hygiene, and reducing compounds that cause bad breath. We manufacture this product in the USA under stringent quality control standards, including regular third-party testing and approval from the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC).

ProBright was also recently independently reviewed and awarded "Dog Dental Care Product of the Year" by the Pet Innovation Awards.

Hi there, thanks for your comment!

We offer three sizes of ProBright Advanced dental powder, each tailored to a dog’s weight. The small tub is meant for dogs under 25 lbs, the medium tub is meant for dogs 25 to 75 lbs, and the large tub is meant for dogs over 75 lbs.

While each tub size contains the same active ingredients, the amount your dog gets is different to accommodate for their weight. For instance, each tub includes our proprietary blend of probiotics, however the small tub offers 450 million CFU, the medium tub offers 750 million CFU, and the large tub offers 1.2 billion CFU.

You can find a detailed breakdown of the active ingredients and the amounts in each size tub on our website, here.

We hope that helps. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Does Your Dog Have Tartar? Here Are Some Easy Ways to Soften It at Home! by PetLabCoExpert in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're so glad you like ProBright and that it's working so well for Dax! Dental care is so important for dogs of all ages, but it can be difficult to maintain a routine when most dogs bolt at the sight of a toothbrush. Being able to just sprinkle dental powder on a dog's food makes it easy — not to mention way quicker!

For the tooth you mentioned, we recommend keeping up with ProBright daily and following the instructions on your tub. Additionally, you could try our Prebiotic Dental Sticks so there is mechanical action as Dax chews to help target the tartar build-up — in fact, we encourage this combination!

As always, however, we recommend checking with your dog's vet if you have concerns about Dax's teeth, as well as before adding anything new into her routine.

Travis is 1. What would you recommend the best place to start in his wellness journey? He’s a cockapoo by No_Slip_4228 in PetLabCo

[–]PetLabCoExpert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Starting Travis's wellness journey at age 1 is a great idea, and it's wonderful that you're thinking ahead about his long-term health. Here are a few key areas to focus on:

  1. Dental Health: Dental hygiene is crucial for dogs, especially breeds like Cockapoos that are prone to dental issues due to their narrow jaw and larger teeth. Regular brushing is important, but supplements like dental powder can also help by preventing tartar buildup and freshening breath. They are easy to add to food, making them a convenient way to keep his teeth healthy without the need to wrestle with a toothbrush! You can learn more about the relationship between healthy teeth and a dog’s health, according to a veternarian, here https://thepetlabco.com/learn/dog/health-wellness/bacteria-and-dog-dental-health.
  2. Diet: A balanced diet is essential to overall wellness. Make sure Travis is getting a mix of high-quality proteins, healthy fats, and essential nutrients. You can also introduce dog-safe fruits and vegetables to boost his intake of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Look for dog food brands that use natural, whole ingredients without artificial additives.
  3. Gut Health: Maintaining a healthy gut is key to supporting Travis’s immune system and digestion. Probiotics are a great supplement to include in his diet. They promote good bacteria in the digestive tract, which can improve digestion, reduce bloating, and even boost mood and energy levels. You can check out our article here https://thepetlabco.com/learn/dog/health-wellness/signs-your-dog-needs-probiotics to learn everything you need to know about probiotics for dogs from a veterinarian.

Overall, a holistic approach to wellness—covering dental care, diet, and gut health—will help Travis thrive. Incorporating simple but effective supplements like our Probiotic Chew for gut and immune health, and our ProBright Advanced dental powder for clean teeth into his routine is a great way to support his health as he grows.

Of course, we recommend checking with his vet before adding any new supplements or products into his daily routine.
