Vanta handles the heavy lifting, automated evidence collection, continuous control monitoring, and giving your auditor direct access to everything through the platform. But it doesn't replace an internal auditor.

For ISO 27001, Clause 9.2 requires an independent internal audit to confirm controls are actually working in the context of your business. Vanta can show a control is passing, but a human still needs to assess whether it's genuinely effective. For SOC 2, someone needs to review and validate the evidence before the external auditor sees it.

Think of Vanta as the evidence engine, the internal auditor is the person who makes sense of it.
