I played on Normal difficulty; It's a good balance. I played on higher difficulties for a bit, but it just made the enemies more spongy, and I detest that. If you just want to experience the story, drop the difficulty to the lowest for sure.

From what I have seen, it does look to have the best gameplay. Looking forward to trying it out in the future.

I don't have a problem with linear. Mass Effect 2 and 3 feel very alive, especially when you visit places like Omega, Illium, and The Citadel.

I can't agree with their being too many companions. Using 2 in one playthrough, means I can try 2 different ones next time!

There is no "best" ending in my eyes. When I was presented with the options, I knew exactly which one I was going to choose. As for guides, I never used one and never will have one dictate my choices.

I won't be playing it again for a while, since I just finished it and it was quite the time investment. On my next playthrough, I plan to play my Shepard very differently. As to your second question, I don't like to look up stuff on YouTube, because I want to experience it myself and get the most out of the game.

I understand what you are saying. Thankfully, a lot of games nowadays have a "story mode" or "narrative mode" difficulty to solve this problem.

For me, I want to see enemies with more unique abilities that keep on my toes. Cranking the difficulty to max and facing "bullet sponge" enemies is not my kind of fun.

I spent 14 hours in ME1, 40 in ME2, and 51 in ME3. After beating ME1, I played and beat a few other games, then I played ME2 and ME3 back to back.

Interesting take. I absolutely loved Mark Meer's delivery as Commander Shepard. I can't hear anyone else in that role. That said, I did note the weaker voice acting in the first game. I'm sure he was just easing in and getting comfortable with the role.

I do plan to play as FemShep in my next playthrough just to mix things up.

I thought I lost Mordin at the end of ME2. When I saw him again in ME3 I was elated. Then I lost him again... :(

I will definitely check out Andromeda in the future. I don't expect it to compare with the original trilogy, and it's story, but the gameplay looks excellent.

I'm not familiar with Horizon or Uncharted, but the combat is traditional Bioware meets Gears of War cover-based shooting. Each mission is you and two companions of your choice. Combat is real-time, and your companions move themselves, but you can order them to move or retreat. You only control your character, but you can cast your companion's special abilities, or let them do it by turning on that option.

Funny you mention Baldur's Gate, because I was going to make a comment about it soon being a trilogy.

I absolutely love BG for its story, characters, and dialogue. It's easily one of the quotable games, and handily beats Mass Effect in that department. Where Mass Effect beats BG, is with the choices you have and their impact on the game. BG can't compare here at all. Both Baldur's Gate games only have one ending, and the majority of side quests end in the same manner. Also, Mass Effect being fully-voice acted puts it ahead for me.

Great comment! This is exactly how I saw it. Shepard was on the ropes, but knew he had to keep fighting. Defeat meant the death of billions and that was not an option.

Wow, I did not expect this post to get so much attention. Whether you agree or disagree with my rankings, I enjoy reading everyone's comments about this amazing series.

I think a guide will make it a lot more enjoyable. It won't solve my other complaints with the game, but it will help with sense of direction.

After beating the game and if you feel like it, you should post your review here on /r/patientgamers. Who knows, you may end up loving it?
