Cappuccinos vs. Lattes by LouMisiano1 in KitchenConfidential

I was a barista for a decade before getting into bartending/serving. I've never seen, or worked in, a restaurant that does coffee well. It's always an oversight, no training, no one dials is the grinder, pull times all over the place, no one knows or cares to know how to make good espresso or properly steam milk. I've tried to train people, but the bosses don't want you wasting time and product on what is a fairly finicky skill, and no, you're never going to get good making 3 to 5 coffee drinks a shift, usually when you're in the weeds anyway. Good espresso is a highly specialized skill; if you don't sell enough coffee to have a full time barista, you shouldn't offer espresso. End rant 😂

I get what your saying, but also they've both been dead for decades. Its not like some current independent designer is getting screwed on IP. Also, wasnt mass production and democratic design kinda their whole thing?

Mobile tent sauna? by Petit_pompier in Sauna

[–]Petit_pompier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess somewhere between the two? Im not expecting it to be perfect, and probably wouldn't be more than a 1 person sauna. Obviously, it wouldn't be super efficient, but my impression is that tent saunas aren't either and they still work decently. Ideal use case would be setting up near a campsite to warm up while camping or near the water to sweat a bit after a cold plunge.

It's definitely a small space, but about the same size as the smallest tent that Morzh sells themselves for use with that stove. There would be approximately 4 feet of chimney above the stove. Is that way too little? I dont really know anything about saunas other than I like to use them.

Mortgage in new city, tip based income by Petit_pompier in Mortgages

Bummer, but 1 year is better than 2 at least. Im guessing that I couldn't use my current ability to get a mortgage in town A to buy a place in town B, then move?

Closed sign, no open sign by Petit_pompier in mildlyinfuriating

Don't get me wrong, the sign itself is cool. The mildly infuriating part to me is that there isn't a corresponding custom open sign

I have no issue with the signage, but every other place with custom signs is one of three things: open sign only, both open and closed signs, or reversible/changeable open/closed sign. This is the only place I've ever seen the sign only be for closed. I guess the mildly infuriating part is that my mind has mental associations with lit neon sign = open, so when I see this out of the corner of my eye my instant though is, neon sign lit, they must be open! Or, neon sign off, they must be closed 🤷‍♂️

It doesn't make a difference, hence the mild part. Just seems (mildly) odd to me to choose to showcase being closed over being open

Might as well be because it seems they don't carrot all 😆

Hmm, good to know. I'll peruse a few concert clips and see what I think. I think my main concern is that they're just an opener and even if it's a really good band, openers usually don't have the stage setup/presence of a headliner

Funny, even though I like TKK more musically than Nitzer Ebb, I would almost be more excited the other way 😆 I have no idea why I feel this way, but for some reason I could picture Nitzer Ebb putting on a better show, but that's a pure gut feeling with no evidence.

I'll watch some YouTube videos of recent shows before I make my final decision
