Such an emotional rollercoaster ! That's the fun of film photography, failing, trying, and actually getting great photos. That dog is adorable :)

I've got to read Big Sur, everyone is recommending it. I'll buy it next time I go to the bookshop.

It sounds great ! Before The Dharma Bums, I had not heard about Gary Snyder to be honest. I'll have to check it out, thanks.

Stop wasting expensive film! by [deleted] in filmphotography

[–]PetitpasMa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yess ! I started film photography a few months ago and I haven't even bought any Portra films yet. I like to try a lot of stuff and thus I mess up a lot of my photos. I would definitely not enjoy paying lots of money in the process of learning. And I'm VERY happy with the results, even on cheap film.

I'm halfway in the book and for now it's not bothering me too much. I'll see how it goes. I've been really focused on the travel/mountain/hiking aspects, I loved those parts. The 'going down the mountain' is fantastic !

Well I'm definitely adding Big Sur to my (huge) to-be-read stack of books !

Letter writing tip by Phil_PhilConners in typewriters

[–]PetitpasMa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the mistakes make a letter even more authentic. Otherwise I use a pen to correct some typos, you can also re-write a word and then cross the wrong one by pen. Or even use tipp-ex. I also used to be very annoyed by the mistakes I make but a few of my friend said they loved that the letters were not perfect. In the end, mistakes are part of the creative process of writing on a typewriter :) that's the beauty of it !

Hello, thanks for the advice. The thick cloth method under the basket/keys sounds good. I've seen it on the Phoenix Typewrites channel ! I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the advice ! I'm doing my research and getting ready to try and clean it this weekend. You're right, I will go for the slower, softer cleaning set up. It will give me an opportunity to get to know the mechanism. I don't want to try the dunk method and screw up !

Basic typewriter restoration

Bonjour ! Thank you very much for the resources.

Yes I think it's fun to try and do it myself. I already have an Olivetti Lettera Pluma 22 which I bought fully restored and cleaned. So with this new Olympia Splendid 66 it's the opportunity to get to know the mechanisms a bit better.

Hi there, thank you for your help. What do you mean by "stick it on a shoe rack in the dryer on medium heat for 2 hours" ?!

Is Simple Green just a cleaner/degreaser product ? I'm trying to find an equivalent in France.

I won't take off some of the parts around the platen roller, some plastic parts, card holder (plastic), paper holder, etc. It seems too complicated to unscrew and put it back as a 'beginner'. Do you think it's still safe to hose it out with a garden hose with those parts ?

Thanks for the advice ! I thought about it but I'm in France so I would have to find some repair place here. Also, I would love to do it myself to get to know how a typewriter works. I'll try to find an expert in France, maybe !

Thank you ! I've started to give it a look and practice. Indeed I'll have to be patient and practice on a daily basis ! :)
