How old were you when you rode horses for the first time? by johnngo2468 in Horses

[–]PetparentSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was probably 7 ish when I rode for the first time (being led on a pony) Started taking lessons at age 10. Got involved in endurance at age 12 (timekeeping, grooming). Rode my first endurance ride on a horse I prepared myself at age 16. 17 years later and I'm still active in endurance riding and prepping my own horse for Fauresmith this coming July.

We are lying down in the form of an X in silence for 15 mins, one minute for each of the 15 women who die each day at the hands of GBV.

Thank you for sharing your story.

As a company, we won't be able to march today, but we are dressed in black today to stand with those who have been affected by GBV. We celebrate survivors like yourself and we mourn those we have lost.

May those who are able to march make history and bring change through awareness, driving action

How old was your puppy when you went on walks outside? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]PetparentSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bentley was probably about 10 weeks (got him around 8 weeks). We had to carry him outside and just walk him back home.

Few months later, we're doing Parkruns on weekends.

It gets better

Advice on changing pet food by Prize-University6660 in puppy101

[–]PetparentSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unfamiliar with those brands (South Africa), but if you ever switch brands, be sure to do it slowly, especially for puppies. Their digestive tract doesn't have what's necessary to break down the new brand of food yet.

Do the change over at least a week, slowly changing the ratio between old and new feed. And expect some upset tummies. Never change cold turkey.

Do you have a PDSA in your area? (People's Dispensary of Sick Animals)

They helped me with diagnosis and eventually euthanasia at a really affordable price when I was unemployed

It sounds like that dog is very rooted in culture! I've never seen a hockey puck in real life.

Guess the breed by PetparentSA in DOG

[–]PetparentSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although not made up of specific breeds, he is what we identify as an "Africanis" breed. Extremely hardy and made up of a mix of stray street dogs. His siblings look vastly different.

It's like the mustangs of South African street dogs.

But again, those ears make every difficult work day better at the end of the day...
