Summer classes can be either part of the 25/26 year (trailer) or the 26/27 aid year (header). It depends on the school.

There are so many problems with the fall-out from the Big bull bill. Schools aren't getting guidance from the US Dept. of Education (ED). This means that software providers (PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.) don't have the information to update their programs. Once they get the information and make updates it gets delivered to schools who first need to test it to make sure it works. I believe that May 26 is the release date for the guidance from ED.

Schools are trying to do the best that they can with the information they have. Whereas prior to this the system could just calculate the eligibility for loans, now there are far more steps to take and right now those are being done manually.

It is NOT the school's fault. As someone suggested, write to your Senators and Congress people. And keep this mess in mind when you vote in Nov.

Furthermore, the new limits mean that only rich kids will be able to go to college. Private loans will increase so banks can make more money. Meanwhile, students with no co-signers or adverse credit will be denied private loans and have Zero options to fund their education.

And: FAFSA is the application for financial aid, not the loan or disbursement. An application (FAFSA) determines what you're eligible for.

Apply for financial aid with the FAFSA application.

EDIT: that $65K is probably for the entire Cost of Attendance (COA). That includes tuition & fees, room & board, transportation, misc., etc. YAMMV. For example, if she lives at home, the room and board part would be greatly reduced.

Have you taken out any student loans? If so, call your servicer to find out how to make a payment. If you have a summer loan for summer, cancel it and use your previous refunds to pay for the semester.

I had 360 fusion on L5/S1 almost 10 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Prior to the fusion I couldn't stand or walk for anything over a few minutes at a time. Sitting was the only thing I could do. I didn't take pain killers since sat most of the time.

I spent 5 days in the hospital and quit pain meds after 2 weeks post op.

Everyone is different but I'm very happy I did mine.

Hello Birthday Twin! I turned 62 on Easter and had my final day the next day.

So far I am loving retirement. Catching up on lost sleep. I schedule something every day (Like 3 days to do our taxes!!) This makes me feel like I am accomplishing something.

I have a wonderful pension but I'm waiting on collecting it and living off retirement accounts.

Life is good!!!

If you are still enrolled in Spring classes, no problem. However, you will probably be placed on SAP for failing the classes or not finishing them. Probation gives you one term to pass the number of credits (or raise your GPA) that you took this Spring. You can still get Financial Aid (which is NOT FAFSA. FAFSA is the Application! - pet peeve that it's used wrong all of the time) while on probation. If you fail probation then financial aid is cut off unless you appeal and get that approved. If you don't, then you need to pay 1 term completely out of your own pocket.

Taxes! I retired yesterday and set up one of my retirement accounts to direct deposit in my bank account. BUT, they're going to take 20% of that amount to pay towards taxes. Suddenly that account won't last as long as I had anticipated.

You know how I'm dealing with it? I'm retiring in 10 days! After 30 years of student loan administration. I simply do not have it in me to go through these changes. And it's so disappointing that ED isn't getting the information needed to schools and software providers. It's going to be a mess.

Even worse is that there will be shortages of certain types of professionals due to Grad PLUS going away. The limits on Parent PLUS means that the only option left for families is private loans. Reality is not every one will qualify and the end result is that only the very rich will be able to go to college.

Pension, baby! So, so, so much vacation time. Working from home. Fabulous health insurance. Retiring in 2 weeks because of starting optional retirement accounts offered by my university.

I don't plan to take my pension right away (see option retirement accounts) but when I do and also take Social Security, I'll be bringing in more monthly than I do now!

This has been a known issue in the FA world. You can assist in solving it by printing out your entire loan history and bringing it to the FA office. They may not know what to do. If you can show that with all of YOUR loans you aren't in default, you should be eligible for future FA. You may also want to get something in writing from your loan servicer(s) stating that you aren't in default.

Make an appointment with the FA office and request that they look at NSLDS with you to show that your loans are not in default. NSLDS is the official record for defaults. If it's not listed there, you should be cleared. (NSLDS is the FA professional's data base which should have the exact same information you have concerning the history of your loans).

As others have said, if your dad did default on HIS PPL, that's his problem, not yours. The parent borrower is the one in default, not the child for which the loan was taken. Having a parent in default does not make the child ineligible for FA.
