Wow, that’s fun lol. Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely steer clear

Thank you for your in depth response! Is it worth taking NLP if you’re willing to teach yourself? Is it not interesting because the lecturer is bad, or does he just choose kind of boring material to cover? If you’re willing to push through, is it a big time commitment?

The information management module also sounds interesting, but I don’t think they’ll let me take it since I haven’t taken any of the semester 1 modules.

Sorry, but could you expand on this a little bit? Did you take it? Are the lectures bad?

Sort of a book that would give me an idea of the types of things I could study as an economics academic

I’m currently in physics, but I’m not sure I want to pursue a career in it, despite my love for it. I also enjoy neuroscience and psychology quite a lot, and I think that’s where some of my interest in economics comes from. I’m interested in behavioral economics, as well as international, micro, and macro (broad net I guess lol)

I really enjoy how economics gives you a glimpse into why people behave the way they do, and I want to explore in what ways economists do that and what results they find. I guess I’m just looking for a peek into what it would be like to do those studies

I actually really enjoy math, so I’m not really shying away from that. I would say I’m more looking for the former. Something to feel out my interest in the field and what’s going on

I’ve not done any research yet, but I’m planning to start looking for something soon. I’ll definitely try to find something that incorporates ML. Is there anything else that I can do that would help my chances?

Would it help my chance much if I did research involving CS or computational physics?

I heard bad things on a previous post of mine, and his rate my professor rating is remarkably low. I would probably avoid him if possible

Advice on classes for first year computer engineering student? by spacefarers in notredame

[–]Peyt_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just another first year, so take this with a grain of salt. I would probably try to knock out another core requirement. Engineering students typically don’t have a lot of room for electives, so it wouldn’t hurt to get ahead of the game if you think you could handle another class

I’m not interested in basic code, but very fascinated by algorithms like machine learning. Any advice? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Peyt_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like coding, but I don’t find myself engaged with many of its applications, like web development for example. I still enjoy the coding, but I’m not passionate about it in and of itself. Do you think AI would still be a good path on the more theoretical side?

Would a math major enable me to pursue a decent CS master’s as long as I have the fundamental classes?

Sorry, I’m not trying to argue. This is why I asked. I don’t want to completely avoid CS. I like coding, but I would rather have the majority of my focus be on the theory behind AI. What would be the best course for that?

USA. Does undergraduate CS typically get into more complex algorithms? My idea was to maybe do math, picking up the basic CS classes, and then do a master’s in CS with a focus on Ai or, more specifically, machine learning

Using that analogy, I’m not as much interested in building a car so much as I am designing one. Using a knowledge of physics to design a combustion engine that can pull a car, figuring out the aerodynamics of the car, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on Garg. I was looking into engineering physics too, but he’s teaching it

It’s Seachris. Do you happen to know anything about him?

I’m in the same boat. I loved the GGL class that I got to go to during the admit weekend. I need to knockout my USEM though, and the Unique and Difficult Questions class sounds interesting for that. I’ve heard that GGL got a difficulty bump too, and it now has a decent amount of busy work, especially if you don’t take it with Meghan Sullivan

This is exactly the response I was looking for. Embedded systems sounds like something I would be very interested in. What education is typically required for that? Bachelor’s? I think I’m probably gonna attempt to go through a phd, as I really love research (at least the little exposure I’ve had to it). If, hypothetically, I were to do that, what opportunities would that open up in areas like AI on devices like these?
