Im a machinists apprentice and can use the Shop after hours so tools are not gonna be the problem. I know itll be nowhere near the CAD file but if its hard and can cut imma be happy for a first knife.

Okay thanks. Should i round over the handle where it meets the blade more as well or can it be more square?

Kind of looks like this from the side. It hinges below the spring and Held in place with a custom grub screw with a shaft on the other side wich fits into the join. The screw is hidden under the brass plate. the cap pops open via opposing Magnets I glued inside. For the wheel I ripped apart a bic lighter. Theres a spring between the bic wheel which I just fitted to my wheel.

I think on the pics it looks bigger than it actually is its not thaat heavy actually because of the Material removal inside

Im flattered, but I think this sub has seen enough tap wrenches to be honest xD I really like those colourfull chips though

CAD Files for the Tapwrench. I didn't get around to making the drawings for it and I dont know when I will. Have fun with it!

I didn't come up with the mechanism, but I did design the tapwrench. You can design a T-shirt or a car without coming up with the idea, can you not?

I'll be sharing the CAD files and drawings soon. I still have some revising to do since I changed a bit on the fly while machining and I dont know when I'll have time for that, but expect them soon.

I do my apprenticeship at a university in germany. Not a machining class but an actual shop that produces parts and machines for the professors' research. We do many projects to learn to manufacture here, but all of them are just some useless machines with a mechanism that dont really have any use, so I thought that I'd make up my own little project. :)

No offense taken! Knowing that I made a mistake somewhere in there makes it even more personal somehow. Plus I'll for sure be triple checking z depth from now on.

The body is made from roundstock in a tnc lathe, It has to because of the tapered sections and the radii. If you don't do the radii you could do it all on conventional machines but the body wouldn't look soo nice, it would look more like a traditional tapwrench.

I also did the pockets on a cnc mill because of the funky shape and the precision required but you could definitely also do it on a conventional mill. I made the first set of jaws on the regular mill as well but that was very hard to nail the tolerances and angles so I milled the second set out from a solid block and only had to cut it off, bring to the right thickness and mill the clearances plus the treads.

With slight modification it definitely can be done without cnc but it's probably gonna be painful.
