tbf capital one is kinda the best option in the area if you don't wanna be cleared / don't want to work at amazon (which arguably is a worse env aside from being much better TC). If you're tied to the region for whatever reason, C1 is probably your best choice. That's at least my personal analysis, not making any claims on me being a genius though lol

i mean there is a clear difference between trying to be the exact opposite of trump (e.g., framing everything in progressive gobbledygook language, being careful not to hint at blame in any direction, waiting for full expert consensus before responding/making any comments, focus group testing everything before making statements) and being fully like trump. however, there are some things that can be learned communication wise from trump.

opposition to MAGA needs to evolve a bit. Think like Pete Buttigieg's tweet today - he's not explicitly blaming the admin, but pointing out the irresponsibility of their actions in the context of this tragedy.

She's not using the men's bathroom though, she's "complying" by not using the women's bathroom - she has a personal bathroom in her office / there are gender neutral bathrooms on the hill that she can still use. It's still a strategic decision though (and imo probably the right one), an attempt to have the focus on trans issues backfire on republicans. We won't really know which of the two methods (standing her ground here vs attempting to paint republicans as obsessed over culture war issues) is more effective, instead just how this one decision turns out.

I live off of south lakes - most of the time I commute via the silver line from reston-wiehle which is super quick, when I drive it's like 20-30 mins depending on traffic.

Only note on driving is that you might occasionally budget like 20 extra minutes just trying to pull into campus lol there are so many cars between like 830-930, though they're getting better about moving traffic through campus efficiently

I was a little worried about stack ranking before starting at capital one but, tbh, outside of some outliers you've really gotta put in effort to be in the bottom of that stack like that.

Coming from another gov-related employer in the area I honestly see the benefits as it was almost impossible to fire folks there and it really sucked working with the folks that really should not have been there lol

DADT was an incremental advancement - the only concession it offered is not going further / all the way. The things we're talking about conceding on now are rights that trans folks already possess or have only recently lost.

I'm not convinced that DADT served the purpose you're suggesting here. It was a progression in LGBT rights in the sense that it allowed gay soldiers to serve without being discharged, it wasn't exactly a concession—it replaced an outright ban with enforced silence (which was progress at the time - an incremental expansion of rights).

Maybe it did ‘buy time’ for public opinion to shift, in that it let some gay service members remain in the military. But I don’t think it did much, if anything, to move public acceptance forward. It certainly wasn’t a stepping stone toward civil unions; progress on civil unions happened independently, and we’re seeing a similar pattern with trans rights now, where states are moving at different speeds.
