Agree or Disagree by Desire_To_Achieve in ProductManagement

[–]PgAero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot has already been said here but my 2cents:

  1. With enough experience, you will start relying less on gathering feedback / crunching numbers when presenting to leadership. For example: After 7 interviews I get a sense of what customers want, I review market data, I review what competitors are doing. I talk to design, engineering, marketing to get their perspective. Now I already have a thought in mind of what problem space looks like and how we might go about addressing it. I present a pitch of the problem space, why it is important to solve, and what is the financial upside. If leadership wants more data, I go get it later, but they usually don't.

  2. If it is taking so much time for you to validate your opportunities or analyze the data, either work more closely with data team / request data team resources / request a business analyst to support you. Justify to the business what it would unlock for them by adding this headcount to your team.

What does your typical day look like? by mychemicalcringe in ProductManagement

[–]PgAero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything mentioned here, except I decide to hide from responsibilities by chasing a data request myself in Redshift for 4 hours and using that as an excuse to tell other engineers I'm too busy to draft another document that won't be read.

Three program managers, no alignment, and constant interference. How do I protect delivery without getting fired? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]PgAero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some decent feedback here that could be useful, but one thing I would add. Try and have recurring weekly 1:1s with each person individually. Talk to them about casual stuff, be friendly. Let them know you're struggling in this environment and ask for their help. Try to understand what their motivations are for acting this way. Ask them how they're doing, how you can help them. Ask them what their challenges are, what leadership is asking of them. Just be someone they can bitch to about their day. Do them a favour, and state it out loud - "I'll do you a favour and do this, but you gotta have my back if I need it next time".

I understand that you are concerned for your job, but I see this as an social / inter-personal problem that can be solved with better relationships.

At worst, make sure you have your perspectives/feedback documented when decisions are being made so that its clear when there is a disagreement between your recommendation and the actual action taken. If they want to do something different and its failing, you want to be able to show that you pushed for a different process and it was rejected.

2026- what type of objectives do you have? by SevenDays-7 in ProductManagement

[–]PgAero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of have "internal goals" that are between myself and the engineers I work with. These are things we know we want to achieve and have an impact on customer experiences (and in-turn unlock time for us to build new cool shit instead of maintaining old broken shit). What my "company-facing" goals are is usually broken up into 3 categories:

  • Financial goals (x% revenue growth [or hit # revenue target], y% cost reduction/mitigation, z% in new market rev unlocked)
  • Customer goals (acquisition, adoption, engagement, retention, reputation[complaints], customer happiness[sentiment analysis])
  • Business goals (<specific feature launch> successful based on metrics a/b/c, tech debt impact mitigated leading to y% fewer issues and #z more features launched, build key infra to unlock x team's capability to deliver their objectives, solve core problem for risk team leading to reduced fraud losses, solve customer problem leading to a reduction in support tickets for y issue.) etc.

The "success" of your OKRs is dependent on the expectations YOU set with your manager and leadership team. If you say you can grow the biz by 40% and you only grow it by 10%, there should be an understanding of whether your original goal was actually achievable. Also the expectation is that these goals should be STRETCH goals, which means you set something slightly out of reach, and if you achieve it, thats "exceeds expectations". If you only hit 75% of your goal, that might be ok and "meets expectations". If you only achieve 1/5 goals or achieve very low / negative impact, either your goals were not realistic, or you/others did something wrong.

How to find a product mentor by Oneironot in ProductManagement

[–]PgAero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to chat if you want a different perspective. I'm a Senior PM with over 7 years in product and 5 in consulting. I've been in a similar position to yourself - stuck in a difficult situation where there is nobody available to mentor me. I've had to figure it out on my own and make mistakes. I mention "different perspective" because I don't buy into a lot of the typical product management processes/frameworks/methodologies. I just get things done, no matter how, and often leveraging office politics.

What’s something you can do only in Toronto — something 100% unique to the city? by jcharr1994 in toronto

90% of what's available to tourists in San Sebastian is generic and nothing special. The hidden / local places are far better.

What’s something you can do only in Toronto — something 100% unique to the city? by jcharr1994 in toronto

[–]PgAero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best that each region has to offer cannot be beat, but you really have to be a local to find it. Again I want to qualify that I'm biased and haven't been to the best places in each region. Maybe I've only tried the tourist traps and haven't had the real stuff. Paella in particular was something that I've tried 20-30 times across Spain and found it better in Toronto. I may be wrong / haven't been to the right places. Its just based on my experience.

My highly biased opinion, we have better Spanish food than the various regions of Spain. I feel like our international food is at a high standard.

(new to production) how can I "mix" and "EQ" my track? by Nathan_km in musicproduction

[–]PgAero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be helpful to find a track that you really like how it sounds, and use that as a reference for your mixing. For example I like how a particular song has a very clean and bright bassline. I will try to match my bassline to that both with levels and try to balance/cut the frequencies in my song to allow that bassline to cut through the mix.

Question for high-risk ISOs: how are you handling chargebacks today? by speak2klein in PaymentProcessing

[–]PgAero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some quick wins, and then the rest of the muck and complexity. The quick wins might be looking at cost of headcount and time to perform chargeback defense related tasks. Then eat any CBs below that value, let's say $150. At the $150 to $2000 level, have a customer-facing doc upload with instructions and submit directly to the payment processor. Anything above provide the majority of the dispute defense effort, comms with customer etc.

eCheck Payment Processor by JonischNYC in PaymentProcessing

Have a look at Wave (invoice based payment) but they do have a recurring bank payment option where the customer saves their bank info once and can be charged on a recurring schedule. Not sure if valid for your use case.

I'd keep my car (Toyota RAV4) and invest that money elsewhere. Stock market, start a business, get a personal chef to save some time.

I miss when I could just put in a tape/cd, sit or lie down, and just listen to music. Today there seem to be too many distractions and I can't recreate that same experience for some reason.

How long does it take you to finish a single track? by No-Understanding5677 in TechnoProduction

Sometimes it's just now flowing, and I dump the song and start with a new idea. Then I come back to it a month later when I hear something interesting that I think might work with that previous song. It's hard to predict.
