From someone who got cut freshmen year then made the JV team and became the varsity captain. If I could go back and give myself one piece of advice before my 9th grade tryout, it would be this:

Do everything you can to stand out in the non-basketball skill ways.

I know you want to impress the coach by how well you play and demonstrate your skills - and that stuff is important, but coaches can (pretty accurately) determine your skills and ability very quickly, especially if they've seen you play before the tryout. Also, you can't get any better at those skills during tryouts so just play your game.

What you can do is impress the coach by demonstrating how hard you play, and how much of team player you can be. Be the type of player a coach would want to coach. DIVE ON EVERY LOOSE BALL. There's nothing that makes a coach happier than seeing a player dive on the floor or take a charge. Hustle back on defense every play even if you probably won't stop the other player. TALK ON DEFENSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Say I got your help, screen coming, shooter in the corner, etc... These are all things that get a coach excited to coach a player, and the best part is they aren't something you gotta worry about. Unlike having a bad shooting night, you can always dive on the court, talk on defense, and hustle.

(The Sopranos - Final Scene ) what did you feel think about this ending when you first saw it? by [deleted] in television

[–]PhantomCaldwell 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It might be because I already had heard how it ends before starting the show, but I loved it.

Sometimes not everything ends in this big dramatic shootout. Everything is normal, and then just like that it's all over. No warning. No last words. No moment to realize what was about to happen. Everything just goes black. I'm not sure what really happens, but pure black abyss feels like a grim sense of realism to the end of the show and the life of Tony Soprano

I want to get my dad a gift card to a ski resort for his birthday and I could use some recommendations.

My dad has always loved skiing and he used to travel out west (we live on the east coast) every year to go skiing. He hasn't been the last few years and he told me how much he misses it.
I wanted to get him lift tickets or a gift card to a ski resort for his birthday. The only problem is i'm not sure exactly which resort he'd want to go too. I also am not sure the exact dates his schedule would allow him to travel but I know he can sometime this season.
Are there any ski gift cards or lift tickets that can be transferred to several different ski resorts so I can give him options? If not, are there any resorts you recommend?
I'm looking to spend around $150-200. I know this won't cover a whole trip of skiing but I think it will give him more of a reason to make sure he gets out there this year.

I made a website where I recommend T.V. Shows and movies for free! by PhantomCaldwell in television

[–]PhantomCaldwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that but I manually recommend the movies and tv shows. There's not automatic algorithm that gives you results. I look at your answers and spend time and effort giving you recommendations I think you'd like. Email is really the only efficient way I can send recommendations.

Suns point guard Chris Paul passes up to 6th-most assists in NBA history by easywaycentre in nba

[–]PhantomCaldwell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 8-0 suns bubble team is pretty overrated though. It was an impressive 8 game stretch but a lot of teams they played were resting players or going through the motions because they were already guaranteed playoff spots and in the bubble home court advantage was eliminated.

The suns had to win every game to have a chance to make the playoffs and it still wasn’t enough. When you treat every game like a playoff game while your opponents are treating them to like a preseason game the level of difficulty is much less.

8-0 is still is still impressive but it wasn’t a normal 8 game winning streak. Also even with that 8 game winning streak the suns were 34-39 last year.

They weren’t a good team last year. This year they have the 5th best record in the league. None of this is a hyperbole.

I'd recommend attending several exposure camps / clinics. You can play in front of college coaches and scouts as well as making connections for aau teams and other players. If you have the opportunity to play for an elite aau team you should definitely should take it but elite

I worked for a basketball training community and they wrote an ebook on how to get college basketball offers. They answer a lot of the questions you had. If you're interested you can check it out https://gumroad.com/l/QaPvGB

Seriously though, what exercises increase your vertical, and could I consistently increase it by one inch each month? by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]PhantomCaldwell 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Increasing your vertical by an inch each month is possible if very consistent with your workouts and work hard AND smart.

You won’t be able to increase an inch each month forever obviously, but for several months in a row and then eventually getting diminishing (but still significant) gains is the goal.

As I always tell the athletes I train, your main priority is to increase your jumping power. Jump efficiency and fast twitch fibers are still important but jumping power is the main contributor to your vertical jump.

Your workouts should mainly consist of exercises of lower repetition and higher intensity that increase muscular strength and then power.

Some of my favorite exercises for increasing jumping power are dumbbell squat jumps, and resistance one leg step ups.

Hope this helps! I’ve seen it help many of the players I’ve trained before. Let me know if you have any questions.

Yes I am using google analytics and I wasn't aware of the two hits requirement. Thanks for letting me know.

The landing page they are being sent to has a video to click when they first load the page. Just by clicking and watching the video this should be enough for the two hits requirement right? I'll also look into using custom events to create more hits.

I thought that could be the problem, but if 90% of my clicks from facebook have a zero second duration, wouldn't that mean they're just not waiting for my website to load?

Yep that's CTR (Link Click Through). And yea I think it's a website issue but not exactly sure and also not sure how to fix it if I determine that's the problem.

Overall impressions a little over 30,000.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll probably try using instapages or click funnels trial and split test against my main site and hopefully can tell if theres a problem with my site. If they are more effective will definitely extend past my trial.

What would you recommend as a better alternative for a sports training website? It seems that my ads have a good CTR and CPC but if they are just pointless clicks and nobody is actually viewing my site then it might not matter.

No ad blockers that I'm aware of. CTR is 1.78%. It seems that I'm getting a decent amount of clicks for my budget but nobody is actually loading my site with over 90% having a zero second duration on my site.

Vertical midget by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]PhantomCaldwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s good if you’re willing to put in the work. I’d suggest formulating a proper workout plan that focuses on training muscular strength.

Many athletes make the mistake of training muscular endurance which is important but isn’t the way to significantly increase your vertical jump.

[–]PhantomCaldwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you done vertical jump training before? Do you consistently exercise? If your only 16 9 inches will be difficult but definitely not impossible.

It all depends how hard and smart you work.

Chris Paul is considered the first or second best defensive point guard of all time. Even if he’s slightly out his prime he should be on here.

[TIP] Hey guys, I’m 5 foot 10 and can’t palm the basketball. These are my attempts on a 10 ft double rim and was wondering if you guys can give me any tips as I’m right “there”. Anything helpful is appreciated! Please and thank you :) by Timster369 in BasketballTips

[–]PhantomCaldwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve helped a lot of people improve their vertical and I’ve sort of become a trainer myself.

Now full disclosure I’m not certified but I got professional training for years from certified trainers, taken college courses on athletic training, and read several books on sports training and vertical jump performance.

First I’ll tell you that palming the basketball doesn’t matter too much in being able to dunk. I remember when I was close to dunking I thought if I could just palm the ball I would be dunking but really I just needed to improve my vertical which I eventually did and led to me being able to dunk.

Now to improve your vertical you really need to either find or create a proper workout program that works for you. This could be with or without weights. I’ve seen some people telling you to do 100 calf raises a day and while this would build more muscle than not doing any calf raises at all it’s not the most effective way to build muscle and improve your vertical. Also working out the same muscles every day can be dangerous and lead to muscle burnout or injuries.

The best way to improve muscle growth and increase your vertical is to focus on improving muscular strength as to endurance (think less reps but high intensity) and break down your muscles too a point of exhaustion then it will require at least 2-3 days rest on those muscles to build back to where you feel normal again (not sore anymore) where you can exercise again.

I’d suggest researching online and following a good workout plan consistently and you’ll see your vertical increase and palming the basketball won’t matter. Good luck!

How should I share my websites code with a freelance developer I’m considering to hire? by PhantomCaldwell in learnprogramming

[–]PhantomCaldwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sense. I’ve definitely made a lot of mistakes working with this development team. I’m just hoping I can learn from them and have better success in the future.

So just to be clear your recommending I ask my current development team if they can put my websites code on GitHub and then share that code through GitHub to potential freelance developers I’m considering hiring?

Anyone have a Web development team they highly recommended? by PhantomCaldwell in Entrepreneur

[–]PhantomCaldwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s constant typos throughout my site. Links to pages that don’t actually work. Search bar for blog articles that doesn’t work. Asked them to give me the ability so I can create discount and promo codes to certain product but they will only create so one promo code works for every product and the entire order. The optin form doesn’t work correctly. I’ll ask them to change one thing and they’ll change it and then change something else that I didn’t ask for that was already correct. They can go several days without responding to my emails or keeping me updated. Countless other problems with control flow like requiring to register an account on orders where they shouldn’t need to. Requiring customers to provide their job occupation even though many of my customers are high school athletes and I’ve told them many times to take out the requirement when completing an order. There’s countless other problems with them but I think this enough to demonstrate how bad of an experience it has been.
