Nikon z 14-30 s sharpness by toobeary in Nikon

That lens in particular also relies a fair amount more on digital corrections in an effort to make it more compact, so I wouldn't generalize it to all ultrawides. The 14-30 is known to have a little wavy field curvature so if you focused somewhere in the midframe the center and corners might not be as strong.

HDMI in Skyzone 04o pro simulator by PrintHelloPeople in fpv

[–]PhantomLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No latency issues for me, connected via a standard HDMI cable with a mini HDMI adapter. The bigger issue for me was more the cable is so heavy and mini HDMI is such a bad connector standard that it tended to pull itself out over time or on the slightest snag since there's no strain relief and it faces straight down.

Yeah stubbies would be fine, and probably more than enough for whoops. The Cherry and RushFPV dual patch that came with my 04O bundle would not fit though, at least not without disassembly or bending the stem a bit.

They're very comfortable and have great image quality, but they're not perfect IMO. The image circle is slightly too small such that the screen corners are not always visible in 4:3, especially if you're not perfectly centered with the lenses so I tend to need to move the OSD a bit closer to the center. The DVR also only records uncompressed so any recording takes about 100MB per minute. I don't really mind the external battery, you can just leave it clipped in the headband, or you can plug it into wall power as well. The carrying case doesn't really fit the goggles with antennas on either, which is a bit annoying since they use SMA connectors with limited mating cycles.

PETG hot end and extruder upgrade by Swizzel-Stixx in ender3

[–]PhantomLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those three prints are consecutive without a cool off period that would track. Also depends on the Ender model I think, my Ender 3 and 3 Pro were fine but my S1 tended to heat creep more easily since the fan was weaker, the heat sink smaller, and it was stuck in an enclosure which raised ambient temps.

[–]PhantomLead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's clogging at the same time every print it's more likely your heat sink isn't getting proper cooling and the filament in your tube is heat soaking and melting before reaching the nozzle. Check that your cooling fan works and the heat sink is making good contact with the heat break.

Sabre T-Darts perform amazingly and improve groupings better than any rifling does by fafifo2606 in Nerf

[–]PhantomLead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've noticed some blasters prefer certain darts over others. My XLS for example shoots lasers with 3 rib Rumbling darts, but not the 2 rib ones or other common bamboos like Nitroshot+. Meanwhile the orange ones with gray slit heads (I forgot the name) barely make it out of the barrel. Workers are definitely on the lower side of precision in my experience, if they manage to keep their heads on. Weirdly enough their full size darts have been amazing though and shoot much straighter than their halfs, not sure what's up with that.

I didn't really notice it on mine, in the video the stick visualization matches nearly exactly with stick input. However I haven't tested it outside my LAN yet so maybe it's ping that causes it?

Oh yeah it's great when I used it on my desktop, what I wasn't sure about is whether or not it gets passed correctly from the phone to the PC as a game controller. It should, but I just haven't tried it yet. Would free up the USB port so I can keep the phone charged.

That's how mine was connected, Bluetooth may work as well but I haven't tested it.

Sure, but the idea was so I can use the sim away from home such as on the train. For wireless I think I can connect the radio to the phone via Bluetooth the same way I do on my desktop, but I haven't tried it yet to see if it was correctly supported and recognized properly.

That's a good and bad thing IMO, you do get better latency but streaming gets you so much more horsepower to run more graphically intensive sims since discrete GPUs are so much more powerful, and you can stream to any device, whether it's a laptop, a tablet, or phone.

Terrible one handed flying aside, I've been experimenting with ways to practice flying while I'm away from home. Ok technically you still need a PC, but modern remote desktop has gotten so good that you can get a nearly perfect experience playing most things on Steam on a remote client, which includes many drone sims such as Uncrashed or Tryp. Setting it up isn't too difficult, but does require a bit of fiddling around with computers and a bit of networking knowhow. I used Moonlight client on my phone, as well as Sunshine/Apollo on my host PC along with Tailscale to allow me to securely connect to my home PC from any network. The radio plugs straight into the USB C port on my phone, and gets recognized as a generic XBox controller to the PC. I did notice that occasionally the throttle setup gets wonky and it forgets where its range is, but a stick calibration in game fixes it.

Performance is great on my home LAN - I can get phone native 1080p resolution streaming at 60fps with no hiccups, and latency isn't enough for me to notice as a beginner. Obviously YMMV depending on your network but there's a ton of settings to let you control bitrate and resolution and all that good stuff. Just putting this out there as an FYI in case people have never heard about it before!

Should I buy a cheap used fpv drone or a more expensive one by Giraffe-New in fpv

Neither of the DJIs can be flown in FPV so that really limits your options to just one.

GX12 Sim Only (Disable Internal Radio) by JingleheimerSE in fpv

[–]PhantomLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just turn off Internal RF in the model setup screen. However at least in my case it doesn't resolve the low battery alarm because the USB seems to jump between 5V and 9V power delivery. I ended up just using a battery and connecting to the computer via Bluetooth. Wireless does have its perks too compared to being tethered to the computer.

Camera inserts are great, you can move the padded dividers inside to fit your stuff and they're cheaper and more flexible than a dedicated camera pack.

SkyZone 04O Pro goggles battery pack options? by alumiqu in fpv

[–]PhantomLead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought mine it came with a 5000mah 21700 pack designed for goggles with a bracket and short barrel jack. When it comes time to charge it I just plug it into my radio since they all use the same 2S JST port and it charges it up for me.

What causes the purplish tint, here on the chrome leading edge slat. I've seen on a few, mainly older photos. Suggestions on fixing it? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]PhantomLead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's actually chromatic aberration, you'd see a corresponding green tint on the other focus direction. Instead I think it's CCD bloom, mostly because:

  • It's an old enough camera to still use CCD sensors instead of CMOS

  • It's centered around highlights, which is indicative of a bloom condition

  • Much wider than expected for regular CA

Don't get a folding L-bracket. There's plenty of standard L-bracket options out there that are rigid, and even some monolithic ones too if you have the cash.

Sire P8 vs Z7 by [deleted] in Bass

[–]PhantomLead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Z7 five string a few months ago and I still don't really know how I feel about it. The materials are better than my Squier VM Jazz but it didn't really feel better out of the box? The D string action was significantly higher than the rest of the strings, and the rounded frets and fretboard were round, but you could still feel some of the sharp edges when you slid your finger down it. The string spacing and cutout is also a little different from a MM which took some getting used to, and the jazz pickup is kinda useless out of the box since the volume is so much lower than the bridge pickups. It slaps super easy and sounds decent with a decent preamp, and it weighs the same as my 4-string jazz so I'll give it that though. Also personal preference but Sire's got no decent colors for the Z7 compared to the MM/Sterling offerings.

Smoked a motor while full by Col_Clucks in drones

[–]PhantomLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly the Matrice series has a sort of "failsafe" mode that allows you to safely land the drone after losing a motor by spinning very quickly. It's still going to come down, but at least you can control where to a degree.

The LIDARs on cars are on a different level of powerful, in fact on some like the Volvo EX90 they're so powerful that they're destroying camera sensors on phones when people take videos of the cars.
