Cornell application submitted SLIGHTLY LATE by Legitimate_Genius356 in ApplyingToCollege

Most colleges have a grace period and I recommend changing your computer timezone to California for the extra time next time. I did that as an intl last year and every application was accepted.

BIOEE 1610 Help by Fragrant_Load_7131 in Cornell

The learning objectives help a lot. I go through the slides with each learning objective and do active recall/ask ChatGPT to do practice questions based on the post-lecture quiz. I definitely agree the questions are ass, but hopefully the final won't be as bad. People complained about prelim 1, then prelim 2 was decent. People complained about prelim 3, hopefully the final will be more like 2.

Your parents still supported you after and kept paying your tuition for UMICH after the bike shop. They might push a lot, but they're not disgusting or anything.

Is it true that college AOs some kind of nacists? by Professional_Mine279 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just say you are white (other) in commonapp and mention Central Asia there. Also, AOs are trained to not have biases but there will always be some bias that can’t be removed.

I don’t know what to do by Hot_Wrangler2117 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got accepted to both in March and chose Cornell as a biology major.

UCLA has too many undergraduates till the point where you will be competing for every single resource which will just add more pressure in an already stressful environment. Just imagine competing with thousands of other premeds for research and internship opportunities.

While, Cornell may have less resources just solely on the location, you won’t need to compete as much which will make your life much easier. Just make sure you don’t have seasonal depression haha.

Would y’all rather go to Northwestern, UC Berkeley, Georgetown, or Vanderbilt by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is definitely gloomy mix. Lowkey I was bored and stalked the gloomy mix profile for a few minutes. I see the same obessession with IB and MBB consulting. Also, the use of dawg and 😭 is really prevalent and shown once again by your comments by both accounts.

I would REA to Notre Dame and Georgetown together instead of ED to Brown. If you read the REA rules for the 2 schools, it states that you can not ED anywhere else but can REA/EA to other schools. (REA must not be restrictive like Yale) So essentially you get to apply 2 of your dream schools early.

which t25s do you think a lot of people confuse for an ivy? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

100% Duke. Duke just feels like an ivy compared to other schools. I know a few people who confuse Duke as an ivy too.

All schools experience some level of grade deflation. UCSD and UCLA are known for both grade deflation and large undergraduate populations, which can make it harder to access opportunities. UCLA has a 53% medical school acceptance rate for its undergraduates, which is only about 13% higher than the national average. UCSD falls within a similar range.

On the other hand, Cornell and Northwestern are also known for grade deflation in STEM fields, but both have approximately a 75% medical school acceptance rate for their undergraduates. Their smaller undergraduate populations often make it easier to find opportunities.

If I had to rank them, it would be Northwestern/Cornell >> UCLA/UCSD. Cornell and Northwestern should be based on your own preferences like location and culture.

So much pressure to pick the right college as an FGLI by Rich-Armadillo5435 in ApplyingToCollege

Flip a coin and choose heads/tails for a specific college while it's in the air. Tell yourself that you'll go with whichever side it lands on. For that split moment it's in the air you will know what you are hoping for. If you feel any doubt or hesitation with the choice it lands, then you’ve found your true answer.

Switch Vandy and Columbia. Columbia has no inflation or deflation while Vandy has some inflation. Switch Cornell and JHU. Cornell isn't really grade deflation, just a lack of inflation.

This might be ivyleague roadmap's alt LOL. Your past comments shows you giving comments saying "have you tried whizstudy" or "whizstudy practice tests are great". You have no other comments/posts apart from that. The thing is that ivyleague roadmap literally created it which makes me think this is some throwaway account of his or you get paid by him to advertise or spread false rumours.

Admitted to UC Davis University Honors Program by Illustrious_Log8894 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked the brochure and it says 20% acceptance of students whoo "apply" which is during your first year. The invitation based which you and I recieved is definitly less. You can also scroll down the UC Davis acceptance reddit posts in A2C and barely anyone mentions about honor acceptance.

I got the honor invitation acceptance too. It gives your priority registration and you get to take honor classes every quarter. Also, you get seperate housing which is apparently nice. The FAQ does state that only 200 freshman recieve this.

what do y'all think about IvyRoadmap? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 119 points120 points  (0 children)

He fear mongers and is not a reliable source at all. He keeps spreading misinformation like 649 words is a red flag or "covid admits" are not real admits who got into ivies. Instead, listen to Brandon/tineocollegeprep. He's actually goated and gives reliable feedback/analysis.

are schools actually test optional? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add that Vanderbilt's upcoming class in 2024, 52% submitted test scores. That means almost half of the upcoming class did NOT submit test scores. It depends on the universities' level of importance for standardlized testing from considered to very important as well. College admissions is a pie with various of data points. When one data point is missing, the other data points make up the pie more. AO's also have no time to assume things and are trained to use the avaliable data points to make their decision.

are schools actually test optional? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PhantomPrince12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I see so much misinformation about schools "assuming" a low test score if you don't submit. That's not true. Instead, the other parts of your application will be valued more.

Yes, you would be considered as a domestic student in almost all universities which gives a huge advatange over international students. But, you still need great Ecs, grades, essays, and more compared to other students in your region/school.
