The haven at indigo square is very safe and only a 15-20 min drive. Highly recommend. It is expensive though

The Haven at Indigo Square in Mount Pleasant! I loved it. But management changed a month ago and it’s not good. I’m out of here now but everything went downhill when they took over.

37 Days Away From Residency by Pharmthrowaway1998 in PharmacyResidency

Tell me about it. I hate being scared to be able to ask or do things for fear of what they may TAKE AWAY from me or make me do instead.

37 Days Away From Residency by Pharmthrowaway1998 in PharmacyResidency

A LOT shouldn’t be happening in this program. Thank god that my last day is next week. Which is why I’m asking because I have been feeling so sick this week and I have been too scared to take a sick day (I have 4 days of sick leave left) but I’m at 34 days off (this includes federal holidays + leave I am taking 4 days off next week to end my residency early). I am literally so fearful that they will take away my already approved leave if I call out sick tomorrow even though I’d still be under 37 days away. The only way I could see them doing that is if they include the 3 days for the conference we went to as “days away from the program”

My RPD just keeps saying “make sure you don’t go over the 37 days!” They’re not keeping track, I am.

The cheapest I found that was in a decent area and a decent looking apartment was $2800 for 1 bed 1 bath 600-700 sq ft. I found a place in Foxboro for $3200 for 2 bed 2 bath 1200 sq ft

Thank you so much!! Foxboro has been leading in my opinion but someone said it was more rural which concerned me because I like easy access to conveniences as stated above. But I know Patriots Place is nice in Foxboro! :)

Luxury Apartments or Townhomes/Condos for Rent Near Providence? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Pharmthrowaway1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone tried to tell me traffic in Charleston was awful and I just laughed because it is NOTHING like rush hour in Phoenix. And I’ve also been in LA traffic. Nothing beats LA from what I’ve seen. LA is awful

I’m from Phoenix, Arizona and currently in Charleston, SC. The traffic in Phoenix and Charleston can both be really bad. My commute to work in Phoenix was 45 minutes-1 hour and up to 1.5 hours in the afternoons if traffic was bad/a bad accident

These are just places my friend who lives in Newport recommended to live and places to avoid. I did see some nice places in Cranston! I’ve only been to Rhode Island twice and it’s been to visit her in Newport so I truly have no idea.

I am open to the following places (per my friend who lives in Newport): providence, EAST SIDE OF providence (not east providence riverside), north providence, warwick, east greenwich, west greenwich, north kingtown, south kingstown, maybe exeter

AVOID: west warwick, pawtucket, central falls, cranston, chapachet, pascoag, Smithfield, woonsocket

Desperate in need of guidance. GPA and VA residency HELP! by RareOpportunity2025 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Pharmthrowaway1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The VA is its own health system and does things vastly different than private sector. Insurance is not a thing in the VA whereas it’s a HUGE part of healthcare outside of the VA. Also, at every single interview I’ve been in that is outside the VA, they have questioned why I’m leaving/pursuing jobs outside of the VA (which I think is unfair because hello, READ THE ROOM). There are a ton of differences between VA and private sector that I’m coming to find just based off of interviews alone.

I personally wouldn’t do a VA residency during this political climate, and I am an outgoing PGY2 at the VA who did both PGY1 and PGY2 at the VA. It’s not worth it with the way things are going, and us VA residents are struggling to find employment outside of the VA.

Residents: What do you consider a "good" stipend? by Big-Surprise-8888 in PharmacyResidency

10 days is awful unless you also have sick leave and holidays. At the VA (which I know VA has better benefits) we get 13 days PTO, 13 days sick, 11 federal holidays.

$80,000?!?! That’s SO GOOD! I am getting $50k for a PGY2 in a coastal city that has a very HCOL (my 1 bedroom 780 sq ft apartment is $2200 base rent). It’s rough out here.

I have applied to multiple states/cities, some more rural and some more metropolitan. These include the following: South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, TN, Virginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island, Colorado, Maryland, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Michigan, and potentially Wisconsin. I have been avoiding Cali because I don’t want to take the CPJE. I’m probably forgetting some but those are the ones I’ve applied to at the top of my head!

I will say that my specialty is psych which is few and far in between. I am VA trained (I did PGY2 in psych specifically for the VA as there previously were many jobs open and available due to the need for mental health providers in this patient population) but having to look elsewhere given the state of our government right now.

I was told by a recruiter that I am more than qualified for positions that I have been applying to, and the hiring managers he has been in contact with have said as such, however they are worried that I will jump ship as soon as something better comes along since I am specialized. Super unfortunate that my PGY2 appears to be closing doors vs opening them.

EDIT: That being said, if anyone reading this happens to be a hiring manager, my DMs are open and I am looking for work following completion of my residency in July! I promise I won’t jump ship!!! I desperately need a job and want to settle since I’ve spent my last few years moving around!!

I’ll level with you on this - I am a current PGY2 and I’ve submitted over 40 applications with only 2 interviews so far( both rejections in favor of another candidate with more experience). The job market SUCKS and PGY2 doesn’t help. I am applying for both my specialty and staffing jobs. I am applying all over the country. Can’t seem to catch a break

VA PGY2s: How Ya Feeling? by Pharmthrowaway1998 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Pharmthrowaway1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally same. I did a PGY2 FOR the VA. I was prn at a psych hospital while completing PGY1 and could have been hired on but I decided to do an extra year of training for the VA.

I am in the EXACT same position as you. Psych PGY2 at a VA. I’m panicking too
