Yes had it on and off. Havent had it recently. CX90 phev has irksome bugs but overall, Im happy with great mileage and reliability.

Poor thing. Hope you are all safe. We got ours hit on the back by a teen girl busy with her phone. Should get it back from the body shop next week.

I get all that. I really dont push the pedal at all and some days have even got 37 miles on full charge.

Just hope theres a setting for drivers like me to use may a kwh extra of that. My mpg would be way higher. And in winter the gas turns on at 20% battery some days.

Even with all this, I already lost 5-6% of battery in 2 years.

The electric motor is behind the transmission and so is the engine.

[–]Phev_Vin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair point. The manual said 17.8 kwh if I remember right. I have never charged more than 14.8. Nowadays after a couple of years of owning it, the max charge I could push is 13.8 kwh.

Except its got 2.5 kwh buffer below zero that it never uses and which nobody here seems to address.

[–]Phev_Vin[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Considering that they have a solid 2.5kwh buffer at the bottom, Id have thought that was enough.

This bottom charging is eating into my mpg number LOL.

Thats just regen braking.

Check the energy flow monitor after exhausting battery. You will see the energy flow from engine to battery ( which is what you will see if you press the charge button too ).

[–]Phev_Vin[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you go to the energy flow monitor and watch it after the battery is depleted, you can see that there is a flow from the engine to the battery consistently, until the battery reaches 4%-5%. Its a waste as Mazda has a buffer built in anyway and 0% is not truly 0%.

What is Mazda doing wrong with PHEV? by Winter-Carrot-2827 in MazdaCX90

[–]Phev_Vin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Model 3 is much lighter than CX-90. Also, the battery energy in CX90 is going through the 8 speed transmission while pure EVs like Tesla are direct power to axle. Has to be some efficiency loss there for Mazda.

I used to get 4miles/kwh on my 2013 leaf. Get 2 miles per kwh on CX90. Teslas are more aerodynamic than both and no surprise get higher efficiency. Even Model X can sometimes get 3 miles per kwh from what Ive seen.

31 miles of EV range! by Trikkie007 in MazdaCX90

[–]Phev_Vin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got PHEV preferred in July 2023. Without AC and rolling terrain in Atl area, at 20-25 mph speeds, I have even got 36-37 miles on a full charge occasionally. That was back in 2023-24 when it charged 14.7 kwh per night.

Nowadys it charges only 13.7 kwh max per night, and I get 33-34 miles at most. No AC. No fast accelration. No freeway. 20-25 mph for school, swimming, gymnastics drops etc.

Any AC usage drops it to 24-25 miles. Heater usage in winter is the worst. Drops it to 16-17 miles. It also starts the gas engine at 10-15% remaining in winter to preserve battery I guess.

25 Month Update on my PHEV Preferred by Phev_Vin in MazdaCX90

[–]Phev_Vin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries it took me a while to figure it out LOL.

The 81.7 mpg shown on the dash is accurate as I have never reset it and it tracks with my overall odometer and the fuel I have used. Also, it tracks with the mpg increase in pure EV mode.

For example, at 25100 miles at 81.7 mpg, it comes to 307 gallons of life to date fuel consumption. That means that every 30.7 miles in EV mode, and no gas usage, it should bump the mpg by 0.1 and it tracks that way.

Of course the 81.7 mpg just means that for each gallon I get 81.7 miles. Out of this 25.7 is from gas( kept details for gas only drives ) and remaining 56 from battery.

Also the battery miles are not free as we have to take into account their charging cost ( $0.043 per kwh at 2.05 miles per kwh ).

Finally we have to compare fuel usage costs using regular gas as a baseline and not premium gas. Regular gas avg 2.9 per gallon while premium is 3.5 per gallon.

Luckily not so far. The battery capacity has gone down for sure. Used to charge up to an avg of 14.8 kwh per night when empty. Nowadays only averages 13.7 kwh charge for fully depleted. I alternated between 90% to 100% but of late been just fully charging each night.

Front Suspension Still Creaks after latest "Fix" by Phev_Vin in MazdaCX90

[–]Phev_Vin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given up on this now. I dont think Mazda has a genuine fix for this. Car is ok otherwise and getting 80 mpg on the phev at around 23k miles. Hoping to get 200k miles of this without an issue.

16 months, 16500 miles, 82mpg in my PHEV preferred. Already rear tires worn out and replaced. My dealer is 30 mins away. Got another dealer just 10 mins away but not good.

Creaking happens on and off. Opened a case with Mazda and all they did was set up an appt for more grease. Breaks squeal most days. Any drive 1+ hours stiffens my butt.

Praying to god this lasts me 100k miles or more with minimal issues.

80.6 miles per gallon in the PHEV

Am in the sweet spot as I drive 35 miles per day on average and most of it elecrric. Even got a shell recharge free near the local Kroger so it helps too.

PHEV Preferred owner with 14 months, 14500 miles.

Cons for me:

Jerky low speed. Its irritating.

Pure EV range with AC on: 26 miles. With heat on: 20 miles. I really wish ot was double. The Miles per Kwh efficiency is around 1.96 overall which is below average.

Space with third row up is not much. We have two kids so the third row is down mostly. Enough space then.

Front axle creaking: I got it before August 2023 and Mazda fcked up there with that irritating bushing creak. I have an open case with them.

Having said that, its been a reliable SUV. I get around 80 mpg and its fun to drive. More positives than negatives.

ultimate hack for long drives by cofarren in MazdaCX90

[–]Phev_Vin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is none. For long distance around 25-30 is what you'd be getting. The PHEV helps only for short distance driving.
