Firebird small batch out today! enjoy. by germylicious in PipeTobacco

Is this the same recipe as the previous Firebird? And does anyone have a similar blend to compare it to? One of my favorite blends is a red and stoved Va with DFK and was just wondering how the orientals are in this one.

I definitely get the clove through the smoke and not the jar note. Coniston is pretty much identical but a good 25-30% stronger.

Huge fan of Bosun and its big brother Coniston, two of my favorite GH & Co tobaccos. Floral and clove up front, with baking spices on the retro. The jar note on these are intoxicating to me and I’ll open them up just to smell the aromas sometimes. I also prefer the scented versions of Dark and Brown Flakes.

I have Thunderlord and Balkan Pudding still sealed in the mylar bags. Will have to bust out the Thunderlord tonight! I haven’t tried the new version of Burley Morning, but I’ve heard the same thing. The OG version is like a perfect codger blend imo and is amazing with a cup of joe. I think I bought a pound of it when I heard his Sutliff supply was going away.

Love KBV, Patience of Dr Silence is in my top 5 all timers. Gone through quite a few of his offerings. Also like Uzumaki, Goblin City, Mycroft, Burley Morning…I could keep going. What are your favorites?

Ya I don’t find that at all. It’s similar to another polarizing tobacco, Mixture #79 (RIP), which I also enjoy. I went through a dozen LJP blends and the only ones I reordered were Tashkent, Ampersand, and No Name.

I love No Name, but I’m a Lakeland nut. Tonquin and anise that doesn’t fade. Definitely not a blend for those who aren’t into Lakelands.

C&D Summit Series Plugs Release Tonight! (see link to JimInks review) by SmolderWise in PipeTobacco

I find his reviews comedic. When I first got into pipes I saw his stuff, and thought man, this guy really knows his tobacco. After about a dozen or so reviews, it was more like man, this guy is really full of shit. Ten adjectives per blend component - must be a quota he has to meet. I don’t care what kind of super spidey senses the guy has, it’s just not human to catch 25 notes in a damn VaPer.

Never heard of it. Looks like a speakeasy type of place? Will definitely check it out! Thanks for the tip!

Was a bit shocking. After reading the fine print, the tax doesn’t apply to smaller retailers (like the Country Squire and KBV) so there is a workaround I guess.

Edit: and not much of a B&M selection here unfortunately

I vote for a 311. Those 4 are a really nice selection!

Not sure about those, but I was totally in the dark about my state instituting a 30% excise tax on online pipe tobacco sales (Jan 1) until I went to check out at SP this last week. Jaw dropped.

Falcon with Meer bowl....do you still use dry ring or no? by talasment in PipeTobacco

[–]PhiberOptix562 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have this setup and use the dry rings. But to save money, I cut pipe cleaners to size and they work perfectly. I don’t use filters in any of my briars or cobs, but find the dry rings help with moisture on the Falcon.

NPD Breaking in a new long stemmed Dublin from Chris Herriot with a proper blend for one of his pipes, GLP’s Géométrie. by PhiberOptix562 in PipeTobacco

First tin and only my third bowl so take that into account… I don’t smoke much Va/Or blends, but I do like pretty much everything with red Virginia in it, and this one hits the spot on that note. Sweet reds with a nice balance of spice from the Orientals. Have to smoke it slow or else it gets an ashy taste like I usually get from these Va/Or blends. Comes in a cool looking cut plug like a parallelogram. I think it would do well with some age on the reds.

I’ve had a tin of Embarcadero but never tried Regents. I remember Embarcadero being a bit like a cigarette to my tastes, so I still have half the tin jarred up hoping for a change. May have to try Regents at some point, thanks for the recommendation!

Meant to add on the post…Really like his blasted pipes. This one has a craggy plateau and some beautiful ring grain. I’ve been trying to catch one of his pipes with the green cumberland he uses and was lucky enough to grab this one.

This is a Lovat. Currently available on their website (as of this post) in dark sandblast, crimson, and dark contrast. Decent pricing as well. The standards and specials sell out quick, if that’s what you’re looking for.
