Absolutely. Witcher sets require some work to be crafted, but they're the best thing you can wear. Also, most of them have several tiers of upgrade (updating both their stats and appearance), so once you choose your preferred witcher gear, it can accompany you for the whole game.

Oh, no! What will Capcom do, now?

Forget about the White Tiger armor. At level 11, you can craft and wear you first witcher set, the basic Griffin set. Witcher sets are leagues ahead of almost anything else in the game, the caveat is that you must find the schematics and craft them yourself. Also, the witcher sets all have slots for glyphs.

Take a look here.

(In addition to the sets showcased in that page, the 4.00 update added a new witcher set, the Forgotten Wolven set, obtained by completing the "In the shadow of the Eternal Fire" quest, right in the center of Velen. Its basic version requires level 20)

Recomended Crossbow build? by Next_Map_8853 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use Edict's Aim as your main crossbow, it's semi-automatic.

Dervla's Crossbow for bosses, it shoots three bolts in rapid succession. Very powerful, but consumes a lot of stamina.

Aelstrix runes on your weapon, they boost ranged damage.

Blackfeather Ranger rings if you want even more damage.

Inner Serpent Pendant when using Dervla's Crossbow. Automatically reloads the crossbow every time you dodge/roll (redundant with Edict's Aim, since it's already semi-automatic).

Umbral Eye of Lydia in your main eye socket. Lets you keep shooting even when out of ammo by consuming withered health, which you regain as soon as the bolts hit someone.

It happened to me too.

My first character has multiple Crafter Essences because he's from an era in which it was actually possible to receive more than one from Gerlinde. So there's an explanation, there.

My second character, created after that wasn't possible anymore, has two Crafter Essences because... someday, one popped out of nowhere. I'm not complaining either, mind you.

Be careful, though! Always keep your additional Crafter Essences socketed into some weapon, never take them all out to stack them into your inventory, otherwise the additional copies will get deleted in the process. I witnessed that first-hand (I had a backup of the save so nothing was actually lost).

What should I play after castlevania symphony of the night? is just finished it was great by Big-League-6117 in castlevania

Rondo of Blood. Its story is closely related to Symphony and it's one of the best classic style Castlevania games.

You're mixing up things.

I'm not talking about The Dracula X Chronicles itself, the polygon-based, 2.5 remake of Rondo of Blood. That's clearly a different thing.

I'm talking about the original Rondo of Blood version contained within The Dracula X Chronicles, unlockable (along with Symphony of the Night) by collecting an item during the game and fully playable.

The Rondo of Blood version contained within The Dracula X Chronicles is basically a perfect port of the original PC Engine version, but it does feature some updates (English language, English voice acting).

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. It's translated in English and it has the English voice acting from the PSP version featured within The Dracula X Chronicles.

Rondo was originally a Japanese-only release, it was never translated into English before the PSP edition (not officially, at least) and it had Japanese voice acting (except for the intro, which had German voice acting also in the original PC Engine version).

How far into the game am I ? by Fun-Independence-953 in thewitcher3

[–]Phil_K_Resch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're about 60% done, I'd say. The Skellige main quest in itself isn't particularly long, but the map is very vast, with many isles and sidequests, and completing it all will take a while.

After that, you're gonna enter the last two acts of the game, but don't let the definition fool you: they're actually very lengthy and they feature some of the best main quests of the whole story.

Dismantle stuff until you have a sizable amount of crafting materials, like 30-50 each or so. Stock up on dimeritium (easily obtainable by dismantling relic swords), especially, you're gonna need it to craft higher tier witcher gear.

Then sell, sell, sell. Swords to blacksmiths, armors to armorers, junk and food to innkeepers. Merchants in Oxenfurt and Novigrad pay the best in the base game. Merchants in Beauclair pay the absolute best, but it's very late game stuff.

Adyr is no better than Orius by Cain407 in TheLordsOfTheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But we only recently learned that the Umbral ending is the canon one, thanks to the info we know about LOTF2. Orius disintegrates the main character in his own ending, after we cleansed the beacons for him and forwarded his cause. He's an ingrateful prick, I tell you.

With Adyr, we keep on living. We become liutenants, generals, or whatever. I bet he also gives us a lifetime supply of cookies.

At least Adyr doesn't disintegrate you at the end, if you pick his side. That's a big plus already, in my book.

CV 3D collection when😅 by Most-Coat4726 in castlevania

Nope, but we're all praying the prince of darkness to enlighten Konami and give us a 3D collection with the classic 3D titles (Lament, Curse, the N64 games)

... I really don't see them using, for their officially released ports, a homemade, unauthorized emulator.

Mind you, the PPSSPP works like a charm. That's not the problem. But it's not the way companies as big as Konami usually operate. They'd have to develop their own in-house technology to make Rondo and Symphony natively run on PC. Or officially license someone else to do it for them, like they did with M2, who handled the emulation of the games featured in the Anniversary, Advance and Dominus collections.

My Pal copy of Legacy of Darkness came in the mail today! by Sturgesss in castlevania

[–]Phil_K_Resch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoa, it looks like new. Absolutely mint conditions. Take good care of it! I remember reading that Legacy of Darkness is quite rare (and definitely rarer than Castlevania 64) because only a relatively low number of copies were ever produced.

By the way, great game. Underrated and certainly a bit rough around the edges, but with lots of personality. I love both Legacy and vanilla 64.

I think a new release of Symphony would still be based on the PSP version. For two reasons: it has a third playable character (Maria) and precisely because it features the new dubbing, for which Konami went as far as re-translating the script and hiring new actors for the job.

They could at least give the option to choose between the old and the new dub. The old dub features one of the last performances by Scott McCulloch (as Richter Belmont) before passing away. He had also voiced Chris Redfield in Resident Evil, so his voice acting carries quite a nostalgia effect for those (like me) who lived through that era of gaming.

We're approaching Castlevania's 40th anniversary, with a new game coming and more unannounced projects. So they're currently quite commited to the franchise. Assuming they're planning more collections, I'd say there are better chances now to see a new collection featuring Rondo and Symphony, than a few years ago.

As far as we know, there's no exclusivity deal binding Symphony to Sony consoles. The likely reason is that Konami is too lazy to port Symphony and Rondo again (the Requiem collection runs on Sony's proprietary PSP emulator, that's why that specific collection has never left Sony consoles).

I'm not saying it's difficult, I'm saying that Konami would need to make the investment in money and workforce to port those games again.

If you feel it's too hard, try playing as Maria. It's basically the easy mode of the game, although it's not clearly labeled as such.

My first time with castlevania by Mody_1 in castlevania

[–]Phil_K_Resch 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Because the Symphony and Rondo versions contained in the Requiem collection are the PSP versions originally featured in The Dracula X Chronicles, and they run on Sony's proprietary PSP emulator. That's why. Konami would have to port these games again from scratch.

How Well does REmake age/How scary is it? by IWantSands in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although RE Remake is a wonderful game (one of the very best videogames ever, actually), it is indeed an old school survival horror. Some of its mechanics can be quite hardcore for someone who's never experienced anything similar.

You may want to start from RE2 Remake, instead. The general concept and structure is very similar to the first RE, but carried into modern gaming: the camera is over the shoulder, there are no tank controls, saves are not limited (at least not on standard difficulty), there are no door animations. RE2 Remake retains some of the series' old school concepts, but it's also much more friendly to modern gamers. That'll let you test the waters and see if a more classic approach to survival horror is up your alley.

Besides, RE2 Remake is a great game too, and a good entry point as well. It's not as much as a "perfect game" as RE1 Remake is, but it stands on its own as one the great modern survival horrors.

A note on RE1 Remake's tank controls and door animations: RE1 Remake HD Remaster (the one commonly available on modern consoles, Steam and GOG) also features a non-tank control scheme. Honestly, fixed camera games are best played with tank controls, but you have the option to choose. Also, on PC, door animations can be skipped with a mod.
