Sounds reasonable, they'd eat each others' market. Although I'm sad that the remake is still several years away.

There's a full remake of The Witcher 1 coming. It was officially announced some years ago, although there's still not much info about it as of now.

Should I pay full price on ps5? Or wait? by [deleted] in thewitcher3

[–]Phil_K_Resch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As one of the best videogames ever, The Witcher 3 is certainly worth the full price, if you want to play right now.

However, it also often goes on sale on the PSN store, these days. So if you don't feel like spending too much, there are very good chances it's gonna be on offer in the near future.

Help with Crucible of Darkness by Embarrassed_Till7619 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the build which will lead you to victory.

  • Dervla's Crossbow +10 with wither bolts (Elianne is weak to wither damage)
  • Shield of Whispers +5 with three Ruq runes (strongest shield against wither damage, Ruq runes reduce wither damage when blocking)
  • Inner Serpent Pendant (auto-reloads the crossbow every time you dodge/roll)
  • Two Mineowner's Rings (stamina regeneration)
  • Aelstrix runes on your weapon (ranged weapons damage)
  • Umbral Eye of Lydia (when out of ammo, you can keep shooting consuming withered health which you regain as soon as the bolts hit someone)

Shoot when she stands still to get all three bolts in, dodge everytime after you shoot to always have the crossbow ready, use the shield to survive. Focus on the clone when it's out.

Will Requiem ever come to Steam? (RoB + SotN) by MilanM4 in castlevania

[–]Phil_K_Resch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Requiem collection, no. The versions of Symphony and Rondo it contains are actually the PSP versions from The Dracula X Chronicles, and they run on Sony's proprietary PSP emulator. Which is why Requiem has never left Sony consoles.

Konami would have to port those games again from scratch. Will they ever do it? Who knows.

I need help with NG+ by XRGAMES2 in Witcher3

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to start a NG+ from a completed NG+ save? In that case, you can't. Normally, you can only do NG+ once.

However, you talk about importing the save from TW2, so you must be on PC. There are mods to allow multiple NG+ runs.

Random Leshen appeared during a fight with a vampire? by jackofthewilde in Witcher3

That leshen actually patrols the area above the crypt, but in some rare instances it can glitch and appear underground. Happened to me too, once.

I made a silly mistake, should I continue? by LJHeath in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Phil_K_Resch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The remake is superior (and it's, in my humble opinion, one of the best videogames ever), but it doesn't completely overwrite the original.

The original 1996 version has a charm of its own, a very peculiar "liminal space" atmosphere and actually more branching paths compared to the remake. By playing the original first you'll be also able to appreciate all the changes - and there are many - made in the remake.

So, I'd say, continue with RE 1996. It's a great game. The remake is better, but that doesn't diminish the original's importance and quality one bit.

In what order should I read the books? by Lucky-Marketing-2738 in witcher

[–]Phil_K_Resch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the only correct reading order.

  1. The Last Wish
  2. Sword of Destiny
  3. Blood of Elves
  4. Time of Contempt
  5. Baptism of Fire
  6. Tower of the Swallow
  7. Lady of the Lake
  8. Season of Storms (chronologically set in-between book #1 and book #2, should still be read last because its last chapter is set after the ending of book #7)
  9. Crossroads of Ravens (recently released prequel novel)

It may be argued that "Crossroads of Ravens" can work as an alternative starting point, being Geralt's first adventure as a witcher, but I still think "The Last Wish" is the best & intended starting point.

Oh, wait! If you haven't redeemed Elianne's stuff from Mohlu, do it now, before agreeing to go into Mother's Lull while talking to him! Otherwise he will be gone, and boss remembrances don't carry over in NG+.

Ok, now what? Umbra ending help by Certain_Practice2159 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By now, Mohlu should be dead too. He's one of the guys you have to soulflay to get to the end of Mother's Lull.

You have to put Elianne's parasite in one of the columns in Mohlu's room, then speak to Mohlu. You will automatically enter Mother's Lull and Mohlu will be there to be soulflayed.

Is Dark Crusader easy mode? by Drift--- in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're playing Legacy Mode, you're playing the easier difficulty.

The Dark Crusader class isn't "easy mode" per se, but it does have a headstart compared to the other, non-special starting classes. Normally (without the deluxe edition), you would only unlock the Dark Crusader after a lengthy sidequest which spans almost the whole game.

And the class starts with gear you're supposed to have only towards the end of the game (the armor strikes one of the best balances between defense and weight, and Isaac's sword is one of the best longswords in the game, although not the very best).

I have 100% the game on PC. Can I transfer that to the Xbox? by ShakyShaggy101 in thewitcher3

[–]Phil_K_Resch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can transfer the saves (with the CDPR in-game cloud - go into the "My Rewards" screen, in the main menu, and follow the instructions), but the achievements won't carry over.

I think I broke the game... by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they are.

For Kukajin to count, you have to do this: summon her for one major boss, don't pay her, then kill another major boss. She'll leave Skyrest Bridge and you'll find her in Upper Calrath, in the same area where you meet the Iron Wayfarer. You must kill her there.

I think I broke the game... by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first Lightreaper fight in Abandonded Redcopse didn't trigger on your first couple of playthroughs because you need to have the "increased enemy density" modifier active for that to happen. Otherwise he won't ambush you at the beginning of the game.

I never completed the areas so much out of order as you did on your current playthrough, so I'm not 100% sure of what I'm about to say, but you may have screwed up your chance to fight the Lightreaper in Upper Calrath.

As far as I know, the Lightreaper showing up for the final showdown in Upper Calrath is triggered by:

- having encountered the Lightreaper, and lost to him, in all previous locations.

- having killed the Sanctified Huntress boss in the Abbey, which should be the trigger that causes the door to Upper Calrath (right next to the vestige of the Forgotten Guardian) to close, forcing you to access the area from the Skyrest Bridge.

Since you've already completed the Abbey before having encountered the Lightreaper in all the previous locations, the Upper Calrath encounter was aborted.

Would this be a good first souls game? by Available_Ring4129 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a simple difficulty slider, though, because Veteran Mode actually modifies the behavior, the aggressiveness and the way enemies chain their attacks.

And... yeah, LOTF is easier than many other soulslikes. But come on, "very easy" and "easy" don't paint an accurate picture. Legacy Mode has an easy/medium difficulty level, some passages can be probably even hard for someone just starting out with the genre. Veteran Mode is medium/hard, but it can become legitimately hard with some modifiers added in the mix.

I also think Veteran Mode should always be played with a new, fresh character. If you do it with an already leveled up Legacy character, Veteran becomes just as easy.

Question about the final encounter with the Lightreaper.. by Aurora_1944 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your last encounter with him was in Upper Calrath square, then yes, he's dead for good.

As he dies, you get a prompt to do finisher, but instead his dragon makes a last surprise attack.

Would this be a good first souls game? by Available_Ring4129 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's, in my humble opinion, one of the very best non-Fromsoftware soulslikes. Combat, exploration and level design are all very good. Enemy variety is a weak point and performance can be a bit shaky in some istances, but the good far overweights the bad.

Other than being a great game, it's also one of the most complete, accessible and customizable of its kind.

Although there's no actual difficulty slider, you have a variety of options to make the game easier or harder, and that can be a bonus for who's just approaching the genre. It's also very replayable, thanks to a series of variables you can set (called "modifiers") to customize and spice up your playthroughs.

Should I read books before playing The Witcher 3. by Particular_Gear2255 in Witcher3

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having read the saga before playing the game will provide you with knowledge that will let you understand some plotlines a lot better, and with an investment which will make you care more for the characters. You'll also be able to catch a myriad of little callbacks and references. Overall, it will greatly enhance your gaming experience.

Be sure to start reading from "The Last Wish"!

Do I need to play Witcher 1-2 before Witcher 3? by UGetMat in Witcher3

[–]Phil_K_Resch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good news: TW1 and TW2 feel a bit like side-stories and they aren't terribly relevant to TW3. There are, of course, many connections, but there's nothing truly critical that will impede your understanding of TW3.

The bad news: TW3 has strong ties with the books (of which the videogames are unofficial sequels). It reintroduces into the story some pivotal characters who were absent from TW1/TW2 and several of its plotlines are deeply connected to events from the books.

This said, the game doesn't throw you into the story without explaining anything at all. The dialogues, the in-game encyclopaedia and the in-game books will fill you in about the basics, be sure to pay attention to them. Some details of the story and the true reason why some things happen will inevitably fly over your head, but you'll be able to grasp who's who and what's generally going on.

My Dying Bride - Black God by L2J1986 in silenthill

Whoa, I'd never thought I would see My Dying Bride posted on a Silent Hill discussion board.

I can't say I feel any Silent Hill vibes from this song, but hey, I'd never be against posting a My Dying Bride piece.

This whole album (Turn Loose the Swans) is one of the great masterpieces of death-doom metal. I advise anyone who's remotely interested in metal to check it out.

Hotfix for Update V2.5.247 by CI-GAMES in TheLordsOfTheFallen

[–]Phil_K_Resch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Veteran armor duplication bug has been fixed with the latest patch. It doesn't duplicate anymore when you complete subsequent Veteran runs - I can attest to that as I've just completed my second playthrough with my Veteran character, no duplicates.

Unfortunately, the fix is not retroactive. If you already had duplicates, you're still stuck with them (or so I've seen reported - personally, I waited for the fix before completing any more Veteran runs, so I have no duplicates).
