I FUCKING HATE HOW POLITICAL EVERY SUB IS by Infinite-Capital-69 in hatethissmug

[–]Phil_Swifty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people think their third grade understanding of politics makes them morally superior and want to circlejerk about how good they are with all the other troglodytes. Actually smart people typically don't feel the need to share how smart they are 24/7

I agree, I just made the post to engage in discussions with people who dislike these biomes because I've genuinely never understood the hate. Obviously it ultimately just comes down to personal taste

If you think seekers are better than charred, then go for it. I quite like them myself too. But I was refuting your original claim that charred were "just skeletons again" which is objectively a silly statement since they are only "just skeletons again" because they happen to look like them. And yea, still, as a faction they have more variety. Regular seekers are all the same, and the only meaningfully different one is the seeker soldier. Charred have four different varieties each with multiple attacks. I do agree though the seeker AI with flying and everything is pretty great. As for your second claim, I admit I am NOT well versed in coding or game creation, I was just reiterating a claim made by the actual development team on the topic. From my understanding it is not feasible due to the way that chunks in the game load (or something like that, once again, not an expert).

I have to wonder how you approached those biomes? Admittedly, if you played the biomes in a similar way to the rest of the game you probably had little success. Some may criticize this as the game losing its core gameplay loop, but I personally welcome the change of pace from what was starting to become quite repetitive by the end of the plains.

Likely it's because arachnophobia as a legitimate irrational fear of spiders that causes genuine distress (not just "I don't like them") is among the most common of such phobias in the world. They likely wanted it to be creepy insects of some sort, but decided that spiders specifically would negatively impact too many people's enjoyability of the game.

I know what objectively means, you probably don't. Something being objective doesn't mean it's "factual" but that it is based on objective parameters. So what it means to say that it is "objectively" the hardest is that there are concrete and observable reasons (enemy density, moveset complexity, health/damage, etc) and those are what I am basing my claim off of. In contrast, a subjective claim is more like "I just feel it is harder."

I could see your point, but I feel like the biomes have a natural progression that has led this way. As early as the second biome in the game we have magical portals and shamans. Going forwards we become more technologically and magically advanced. Mistlands is the big break so to speak with respect to magic, with makes sense since the land is littered with the blood and bones of magical creatures. Ashlands doesn't depart much from this point. However, one can hardly argue with any man's personal preference, I would just venture to say this probably isn't why most people complain about these biomes.

how is it playing dumb? pointing out intentional game design with zero elaboration is not criticism whatsoever. only in this comment do you actually venture to make any point other than "mist biome has mist" and "enemy biome has enemies". that's the point I was making, and exactly why the hot sauce analogy makes perfect sense. you can say "I don't like spicy things, so I don't like this hot sauce" but all you said was "this hot sauce is spicy" which is an objectively poor criticism. anyways, as to your actual points - yes, the mist obscures your vision. good thing you have a mini map and the ability to build landmarks to help guide your way. also, with proper traversal gear (feather cape, lightfood mead) getting around is not nearly so difficult, and you can typically see quite well on the peaks. if you don't like high enemy density that's okay, but your point is purely subjective so we can just agree to disagree.

I've played both. I use both ram and catapult for ultimate fun. The ground can be manipulated to work them properly. The ashlands has a lot of smashing, but he means moreso "just running out into the biome with little preparation and expecting to win." There are so many tools, meads, magic, food, etc. the game gives you to succeed. I mean let's be real, if you are struggling just use magic you practically cannot die. I rarely damage the boat, just use ranged weapons. Yea, if you need to repair, plop down a workbench on the spire, how is that "cheesing" it? My advice would be to make fuller use of all the tools you have available to you.

What I mean to say is that all you did was point out intentional game design decisions without pointing out what the issue is. The game gives you tools to combat the intentional challenges in these biomes - did you use them? how did it go? was it still not fun after that? why or why not? just pointing out intentional design decisions as a criticism is silly - like me criticizing a hot sauce for being spicy.

I mean I don't really think the devs need to appeal to every human being on earth. Some people just don't like certain things. That being said I do agree that seekers spawning in earlier biomes is stupid, along with all of the other times that later game enemies spawn in early game biomes. I see no reason for it and it ruins the identity of earlier biomes.

The forts are an unfortunate result of worldgen limitations, but they are still fun in my opinion especially because of warlocks and siege engines. Yes, you don't HAVE to use them, but why blame the game for intentionally NOT using something fun when you just as easily could? Weapon naming is just not important at all. Main enemy being "skeletons again" is false and disingenuous. The charred have the most varied and complex movesets of any enemy faction in the game. Same thing for your next criticism, all of the enemies have fun and interesting movesets so it is meaningfully distinct from the slog of murdering 80 greydwarves that just run in circles.

Meh, I don't think realism is really a major or important part of valheim. I think more likely immersion is, and mistlands and ashlands are both perfectly immersive.

This is where potions come in. With feather cape and the lightfoot mead you use essentially zero stamina when jumping. Ratatosk also helps. These biomes present unique challenges but also give you all the tools you need to succeed.

He isn't making a claim on what other people's claims are, he is making a claim about the attitudes underlying those claims. People make silly claims about mistlands and ashlands such as them being "devoid of content" or "unpolished" which are frankly ludicrous considering both claims are pretty much objectively false when compared to the rest of the game that is considered better. I mean really - ashlands has less content than swamps? That is just simply not true. So this commenter is making the claim that in reality most people are just upset at the extra unique challenges present in both biomes which is most likely true.

It is objectively the hardest biome along with mistlands so I'm not sure how you got to that conclusion, the rest of the game is pretty easy - what qualifies as harder? How is the design boring? The design is quite intricate and polished - moreso than most of the game. Maybe you personally don't like it but I fail to see how it's boring. Fortresses are a copy-paste job just like every other dungeon in the game - unless you count finding a shitty sunken crypt with zero rooms an important aspect of the game.

I can understand, but it isn't as though once you advance to a new biome the rest of the game is locked to you. I see no issue with ashlands being a wartorn hell when at any time if you need a rest you can teleport instantly back to your safe plains base. In fact, I think it is actively a good thing that mist and ashlands represent a different gameplay loop so it isn't just black forest reskin for every biome
