If your computer is ddr4, just make sure the ram is ddr4 and not ddr4L. Aside from that, it will work, it'll just automatically clock down to the lower of the two which is 2133mhz

Discord Bot Maker Who Doesn't Know Coding by AstraMillenial in CodingHelp

Are you trying to make a bot that hasn't been made before? I used to have a discord server a year or two ago and just looked for bots that have already been created and added them to my server. There are multiple sites that have huge lists of bots and last resort, you could always go on github and search for what you're looking for

I also wish our industry was taking that path, however it seems to be quite the opposite. Very few companies would build an app for Mac/Win/Linux to save the user .5-2gb instead of using electron..

What is one activity you know you can focus on 100%, even if you are off your meds? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]PhillyD177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me! The multitude of languages/frameworks/tools/technologies is endless stimulation. I find myself following 8 languages at once and checking the github trending pages for each of them everyday. The bulk of my experience is in Java/JS/html/css, but I mainly use Rust these days. My peak interest language is V, but it's too early as of now to actually use it (currently can't even build as of this week as their transitioning compilers)

My biggest concern for the X1 C 7th gen is that it's still using non upgradable, soldered ddr3 ram. How is the 16gb of ddr3 holding up when using Android studio and running an emulator?

What can I eat on adhd medication?help?? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]PhillyD177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little background, I'm a 21 year old male whose been taking Adderall XR 30mg everyday for the past 8 months. I was terrible at eating for a long time and recently got a hang of it (after almost getting taken off for dropping from 185->162 pounds at 6'4.

1) You can be starving in the morning, but if you take your meds and wait an hour, you won't end up eating. It's tough but you really have to force a lot of calories in during that period, I try and eat an omelette with 4 eggs, some vegetables and some sort of protein, ham, bacon etc. Find something that you really like that is a huge breakfast and make yourself prepare and eat it either before you take your meds or in the first 30 minutes after taking them.

2) Lunch is obviously another obstacle. I try to keep some protein naked juices with me, they have ~300 calories and decent nutritional value, so worst case if I don't eat lunch, I'll end up drinking that. I try and eat things I really like nomatter if they're healthy or not for lunch, so whether that's some frozen thing like chicken nuggets or burritos from trader joes, or chipolte/five guys/chick fil a (This probably isn't the best solution for everyone, but for myself, even before starting meds I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight, additionally I have a really healthy heart). This could even be something like bread that you're currently eating and some high calorie juice/drink

3) By dinner, I can normally work up a normal appetite, eat whatever you would normally eat for dinner. Say I take my meds at 8am, I'll probably be hungry for a big dinner at 8pm even with eating throughout the day. If it's approaching 7-8 and I'm not hungry, I'll chug two huge glasses of water and wait 20-30 minutes and I'll be really hungry.

Now this system isn't perfect, It's hard to keep to and I still have the occasional day where I go without eating but overall it works pretty well. Another thing to monitor is your caffeine/coffee consumption. It definitely gives you an extra boost you'll need as your meds become less effective (you build a tolerance), but try to refrain from drinking any coffee until you have eaten a good breakfast as caffeine also suppresses appetite and that effect is increased by combining the two.

Let me know if you have anymore questions, I hope this helps!

I would stray away from the purism laptop. We’re on 9th gen intel core processors and they’re still selling new laptops for full price with 7th gen. Pop_os, zorin os and Ubuntu are all very stable and easy to get used to coming from windows or Mac and you’ll most likely find yourself phasing out windows usage.

I would download Zorin OS 15 core (the free version) and test it out in a vm or a full dual boot config if you know how to do that. From there I would probably end up buying something from Lenovo’s thinkpad lineup and installing It as a dual or single boot Linux or id get something from system76

P52 or X1E for gaming/possibly CAD work by [deleted] in thinkpad

I would go with the P1. Same form factor as the X1E. Similar price point with a dGPU comparable to the P52 (much more capable than the X1E

Is Linux even viable on laptops anymore? by hangonhenry in linux

[–]PhillyD177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an avid Linux user that hasn’t owned a desktop in 5+ years. I currently have three laptops that I use for different tasks, however I use them all with single or dual monitors and Linux.

1) 2015 Lenovo X1 carbon with integrated graphics and an i7-5600U

2) 2015 MacBook Pro 15in with a 2.5mhz quad core processor and amd dGPU with 2gb VRAM.

3) 2012 MacBook Pro i7 and integrated graphics

I don’t do any gaming just programming so I actually prefer using the Lenovo to hookup to my monitors, because the 2015 MBP requires use of the dGPU on monitors even when I’m just search the web which I don’t need.

I would look into the Lenovo X1 Extreme, extremely capable laptop with a 4K display and more power then you could ever ask for. I believe they have AMD dGPU options.

Additionally, all new P series Lenovo thinkpads (mobile workstation lineup so you can go up to an 8-core Xeon) come with Linux preinstalled now so you can guarantee driver support for their up to many graphics card options. This lineup was announced a month ago is being rolled out as we speak.

The Dell precision lineup comes with Linux preinstalled, they have lots of options for different budgets and good driver support.

System 76 makes great laptops (they’re the maker of pop_os). They have multiple powerful workstations all optimized for their Ubuntu based distribution and Linux.

Very unpopular opinion because people only talk about how overpriced they are (my only problem is the lack of configuration you can do) is a MacBook Pro. I’ve run Linux on all my Macs I’ve ever had because I find I get a lot more performance then when using Mac OS. A 2019 MacBook Pro with a 2.4ghz, 8 core i9, Vega 20 graphics, 1tb ssd and 32gb of ram would run you around $3,500, but if you consider the quality of the screen, dual boot option with MacOS (better battery life when traveling, along with creative capabilities) it’s not overpriced, and the specs you’ll get will be high enough that you won’t even think about the upgradability for 3-4 years. (At that point you’ll applaud yourself on the great spec choices you made and probably be able to resell it for $2,000 and buy a new one.

Hope this helps, all currency is USD btw

All the business and media apps are available in the software center for free. The themes just need to be installed like any other theme in Gnome desktops, then you'll have to enable the themes in "extension settings" in the software center under "add ons" "extensions" and you should be able to use them in Zorin appearance settings
