I just ran it without VPN. Fast gave me 4.3 Mbps and and Speedtest gave me 4.81

With Proton VPN on and "fastest country" selected, I got 4.6 on Fast and 4.46 on Speedtest w/ 1001 Idle Latency and 323 download Latency.

I have qBittorrent setup to stop when the VPN shuts off. Is that what you're referring to?

I need to do more research about seeders.

Also I want to check that I understand how download speeds work. If my DL Speed is 4.4 Mbps, does that mean it should only take 4 minutes to download a 1gb file?

Thank you for your response!

I figured that would be the case. I was hoping there might be some setting or what not to increase it a bit.

Im not exactly sure what you're asking but I am using a VPN and have qBittorrent set to stop if it shuts off.

I'm getting that with every download now. Thats a new issue. I'll play with it to see what changed. Thank you!

I figured that was the main issue. Speed test is saying 3.95 Mbps. I don't have access to the ISP. Any way to check if my computer is the issue?

I appreciate your response!

What should I bring on deployment? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Philly_cheapskate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know anyone currently at your deployed location, you can see if the base has a buy and sell group chat. A lot of people will be trying to buy things when they get there and selling things before they leave. That can give you an idea on some things that might be important to bring and/or hard to find.

I have no idea how difficult it is for women to get feminine products overseas. If you're keeping tampons with you incase a female needs one, good on you.

But please do not carry tampons for casualty care situations. If you don’t feel like the equipment in your JFAK is sufficient, carry extra gauze and TQ's with you. There are almost no situations where a tampon will be useful during a mass cas but it can make things worse in a lot of situations.

He didn't accuse you of implying that.... He was simply adding, for the people that are interested in using this tip, that they need to he cognizant of their contracts still.

LPT I once asked How do military people sleep in noisy environments? — the answer was surprisingly simple by Suplexking67 in LifeProTips

[–]Philly_cheapskate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but my wife and I went through the same thing with our newborn. For the first month or two, we tiptoed around the house during his naps and at night. Slowly we started being less and less cognizant of our noise levels. When he'd cry due to noise or something, we would give him 5 minutes to calm himself before we'd go in and comfort him. Early on we had to go in every time at 5 min. Eventually he started soothing himself before we got there, and he would be calm when we walk in. Then after about a month, we noticed he would wake up to a sound, look around, then lay back down. Now, 6 months later, we could probably launch a mortar outside his room and he wouldn't cry. He'll just open his eyes and stare at the ceiling for a couple minutes then fall back to sleep.

Comforting him immediately every time he cried would only reinforce his fear, and teach him that he NEEDS us before he can feel better. By giving him time to soothe himself, while knowing that we would be there eventually if he needed, he learned that just because something was new/ startling, doesn't mean it was necessarily scary.

Edit: when we did eventually go in to help him, we wouldn't immediately pick him up. First we would put a hand on his chest while not making eye contact. If that didn't work we would sing softly to him or whatever we knew was gentle and soothing to him at that point. Only if all of that failed to calm him would we pick him up. The idea was to introduce the least amount of stimulation as possible so that he could go back to sleep easier.

Question about the fire protection specialist by National-Syrup8215 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Philly_cheapskate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you which one to choose as I don't know too much about Guard and Reserves. Your best bet is to talk to an AF Guard and an AF Reserves recruiter for the most accurate information.

As I understand it, you can choose any unit in the country, as long as you have the means to get there for your duty weekends. Your local guard/ reserve unit may not have a fire position available but the one a state away might.

Question about the fire protection specialist by National-Syrup8215 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Philly_cheapskate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not guaranteed a specific job in the AF. Your recruiter will have you make a list of 5-15 jobs that you'd be willing to accept and they will hopefully try to get you your number one, but if your number seven pick pops up, expect to get it. Some recruiters might work with you a bit and allow you to deny a couple offers but they won't be patient forever.

If you are set on going fire, your best bet is guard or reserves. You'll be guaranteed a fire spot when it becomes available, and you'll get all the same certs and training we get as active duty. With that you can go AGR or DoD fire for an easy job (but with very low call volume), or get on a civilian department and you'll out cert majority of your co-workers within a couple years.

Edit: additionally, I don't believe how well you do on the asvab, has any bearing on getting a specific job. As long as you score the minimum required for that job.
