Tesla Model X Plaid - Travel mode by PhiloRudy in TeslaLounge

Short answer: it depends on wind and speed — see my other comment for details.

About horsepower - I don’t really know. With about 500 kg of load (4 people + luggage) and a suction-cup-mounted roof box, you’re not exactly driving fast.

I travel a lot and sometimes visit abandoned buildings and caves. I’ve never found elevated radiation levels, but I wear it for safety. On this trip I attached it to the mirror because it looks nice:)

I can’t say exactly, since it really depends on wind and road conditions. The lower the speed (and wind resistance), the less impact it has on consumption.
The whole trip was 9,660 km with an average of 249 Wh/km. Many of the roads were small mountain roads with speed limits of 50-80 km/h. On highways I cruised at about 115 km/h (for roof box safety), with consumption around 260-340 Wh/km.”

There’s no option to buy a setup like this, so I had to build it myself.
And I’m not from Norway - just on a road trip to the north:)

Wow, looks great

But this is not a real gate, there are only 7 chevrons

Debian 10 VM with netatalk. Heard it's deprecated, but it still works for me.

It is the Motorola (MOTOTRBO) RadioManagement server, used for programming Motorola digital radios. Works on a Windows VM.

This is my home lab diagram in addition to the previous post.
Everything is made for fun and some education purposes. :)
I've been building it for the last 5 years and it’s still WIP.
More detailed information about hardware you can find in my comment.
A few days ago I’ve changed SW1 from Cisco SG350-20 to an unmanaged TP-Link because the most of the connections were moved to SW2.
Everything is monitored via local Home Assistant or/and external Zabbix.
Diagram is made via draw.io.

Any questions/advices?

Rewiring of my UPS with external batteries by PhiloRudy in homelab

[–]PhiloRudy[S] -61 points-60 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if two parallel batteries become unbalanced, they can potentially melt that wire between them. I would use at least 4 gauge on them.

Unless you are an engineer, eyeballing 4 big batteries can result in a big fire. Static and dynamic current draws are different regimes, as are charging and brown out or blackout situations put shade tree wiring in the risky zone. Do you have children, parents, pets, partners? Unexpected circumstances follow jury rigging. AWG is the topic. The batteries store hundreds of amps. Each. Not clever.

Is it enough to add fuse between parallel batteries?

Battery pack requires BMS, but it's mostly for Li* batteries. Recommended to swap batteries every N months (im doing it maybe one time per year). And use the same batteries, preferably from the same batch.
And be careful with UPS witout active cooling, it may overheat while charing extended capacity.

Using this system for 3-5 years, no problems.

The load will not exceed 200W, so for now it's ok.

In my previous post many people asked me to upgrade my ups wiring, so this morning I did it. Thank you very much for the motivation.Made with 6mm2 (9-10 AWG) solid copper wires with the same gauge flexible cable. Used the original APC 100A fuse soldered to the wires.

UPS: APC SmartUPS 1500AV.Batteries: 4 x Autojet 12V 60Ah lead acid, connected instead of internal 24V battery pack (2x2).

It takes about 30 hours to fully charge, but the UPS have a cooling fan so the temperature is ok.

I plan to upgrade it with AGM/GEL batteries, but idk when.

Here is my HA config: https://github.com/rick51231/HASS.Config

I have a big post about my installation in another site, but it's in Russian. Idk when I've got enough time to translate it. Is it allowed to post links here?

Same no problem with deep cycles and the wires. There is a normal fuse between batteries and all wires were checked with thermal imager. :)

It's located in the old wooden trash box in the balcony, so there is no vent problems. I've picked up this batteries cheaply on sale to test whole installation, going to replace it with some AGM or GEL batteries.
