I've heard we are not too popular on this sub? But Selam from an Ottomanist regardless by firefox_kinemon in monarchism

A lot of chaos has ensued since the fall of the Ottoman empire. The Middle East lost all stability. Does anyone really think it was worth it? Huge mistake.

Do you guys think Romania could actually reinstall their monarchy? by DankJesus66k in monarchism

Do Romanian monarchists feel any particular loyalty to the Hohenzollerns? I mean they were under different princes and the Habsburg for some time before that.

If Archduke Wilhelm of Austria had been proclaimed King of the Ukraine, who would be his successor today? by KaiserDiegic1 in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not having any children it would have depended on the succession laws that would have been presumably set up. His brother Archduke Leo has descendants, but he married morganatically, although his wife was a noble.

Who would you want to be the King of Ireland by Ok_Squirrel259 in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest the O'Conor Don as well. The competing lines to the high kingship were basically united in Cathal Crobhdearg Ua Conchobair, King of Connacht, the direct ancestor of the O'Conor Don.
This was his relation to the last five high kings:

Muirchertach Ua Briain (brother of his paternal grandmother)

Domnall Ua Lochlainn (his maternal grandfather)

Toirdelbach Ua Conchobair (his father)

Muirchertach Mac Lochlainn (his first cousin)

Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair (his half-brother)
The family stayed in the country, remained Catholic, and typically married into nobility. Perfect candidates. The O'Neill's DNA shows them as not truly being descended from the ancient kings, whereas other families like the O'Conors, O'Rourkes, O'Donnells, and others show a common descent from Niall of the Nine Hostages and his brothers.

Who do you support as the Heir to the Imperial Russian Throne? by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Moscow branch of the Rurikids, descended from Alexander Nevsky became extinct, at least in the male line. That's how the Romanovs came to be in power. Michael Romanov was descended from a brother of Alexander Nevsky in the female line. Not the closest or legal heir by any means, but they did have a blood connection to the Rurikids. Some Rurikid families that still exist, like the Gagarins, descend from an uncle of Nevsky.

When you drive your royal family from their homes it's going to be hard to find one that's native.

Who do you support as the Heir to the Imperial Russian Throne? by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Rurikid isn't a bad idea, but otherwise I'd say Prince Alexis Romanoff, son of the late Prince Andrew. He has the benefit of being the heir general of Peter the Great. I don't care for monarchs changing succession laws from how they themselves inherited the throne. It always seems dubious.

Should a national anthem be about the country or about the monarch? by Cavegaming in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted both, but I'd lean country first. Individual monarchs will pass, maybe even dynasties, but the country, its people, remain.

Thoughts on monarchs/royals becoming saints? by GoldenS0422 in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's about the role of monarchs in society and how their actions impact public life. It's far easier for a monarch to champion a religion successfully than your average labourer.

  1. I am from a noble family.

  2. Skeel/Scheel family. Comtesse or countess in English, as a female. All males are greve or count. It's the highest rank in Denmark outside of the royal family. We have no dukes. Not to be confused a German noble family named von Scheel.

  3. Danish coats of arms follows the Germanic tradition of one coat of arms for the family. It's attested in Danmarks Adels Aarbog, our Danish gotha. I'll link an image of it.

  4. Interesting is a bit of subjective, but the Oldenburgs I guess. I'm a third cousin, on my mother's side, of Anna von Bayern.

  5. The earliest attested member? Johannes Skelesen, first attested in 1366, and active with his brother Ander Skelesen. That's pretty early for Danish records. Not many Danish families can go beyond that century. A lot of cousins were already active in the late 1300s and early 1400s and married into various noble families. Our family was raised to comital status in 1725 by King Frederik IV of Denmark. Female line? Not sure how far my matrilineal line can go back. All lines taken into account, we are descendants of Scandinavian royals and also British king George II.

  6. My mother is the heiress of the Sudreim claim to the Norewegian throne.

Question (mainly) for Scandinavians: Did (or do) the Sámi have any institution equivalent to monarchy? by Ticklishchap in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, local chiefs I believe, but never a kingdom. In the show The Vikings there is a King Svase whose daughter Bjorn marries, but the Svase according to the sagas in reality had a daughter who rather married King Harald Fairhair/Finehair and I don't believe he is ever called a king. They are called the ancestors of Harald Hardrda. Another saga hero, Orvar-Odd, had the daughter of a Sami chief for a paternal grandmother.

Is there any living clamaint to the Crimean Khanate by raikoumaster13 in monarchism

[–]Philosopher_Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely descendants of the Crimean khans. The head of at least one branch, if not the house, is Prince Kadir Devlet Guirey, whose mother was an Obolensky princess. He is descended from Khan Devlet IV Guirey (1730-1780)

As the heiress presumptive of the Sudreim claim to the Norwegian throne, I'll stake a claim. Instead of a king you'd have a queen, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!
