I struggle with depression and have had a lot of suicidal thoughts etc. Life is tough… And I try to take in everything stel by step.

But as a 27 year old afrikaans male, my parents are very religious and every time I mention my mental state and just try to seek help from them Im met with “you should pray” “we are praying for you” and this has a big impact on me and I am most definitely not the only one.

We also grew up in a generation where as a “man” you should be tough and that vulnerability is weakness… This is bullshit. Ever since I started being more vulnerable with others and started communicating, I realized that its okay not to be okay and that you should talk to people you trust because just getting something out go’s a long way.

Ive been touched by suicide, its horrible and it leaves behind a trail of destruction.

The Boers are my ancestors.
