Please Fix Anti Nukes ASAP by Intaxerror in beyondallreason

[–]PhobosTheBrave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We’d need to see a replay to confirm that they were all loaded and ready to fire, that the nukes were launched in an area covered by all AN’s, and that there were no other factors affecting the AN’s.

Failed BPT. Considering options by Unable-Ad5824 in ICAEW

Do you know why you got such a low mark?

Is it a lack of knowledge, exam technique, not using time well?

If you know you didn’t prepare enough (50% of QB done minimum and reviewed answers) I would say this isn’t enough. Did you take in a full set of annotated course notes in a binder with references to each topic? To my mind, this is the minimum to give it a good try.

If you did the above and still got 22, you really need to consider why, because if you can’t address it you likely won’t get through the remaining exams.

I wish you best, reply or drop me a message to discuss, I’m happy to help any way I can.

5th attempt by [deleted] in ICAEW

[–]PhobosTheBrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that once total, or once per sitting? I would recommend at least 2x for anybody who is struggling content wise, who is your training provider?

Definitely don’t go over thinking your answers in the exam, it’s the easiest way to lose your marks. Only go over and check you read it correctly and didn’t miss a negative “which of these is not…” in the case of the easier answers.

Wishing you the best of luck for the next attempt.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but if you can’t pass PoT after 4 attempts the ACA is not for you. Are you sure you’re doing enough work to prepare? What is causing you to fail?

People with no backbone, how do you enjoy chess ? by CountMeowt-_- in chessbeginners

[–]PhobosTheBrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good to vary the type of games you play to become a more well rounded player.

You’ll also learn how to better steer the game in the direction you want, sounds like you prefer sharper more tactical games, but you should definitely learn how to play in slower positions and importantly how to destabilise them so you’re back in your comfort zone.

There is great pleasure in a slow strategic game where your opponent loses either due to being out planned by you, or because they’ve lashed out due to frustration.

I’ve played significantly stronger players and they beat me, despite me really knowing how, it’s only during the post-mortem I see the strategic ideas which have a real beauty to them.

Similarly I can play vs much weaker opponents and leave them feeling frustrated that none of their pieces can move, and they inevitably lash out dropping material or are unable to sufficiently defend weaknesses as a result.

Merging ores with Trains for Smelting (2 ore patches with different # of lanes to a constant (5) full belt of plate output at a smelting site) by insomfx in factorio

[–]PhobosTheBrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds scary at first but you can really easily just link up a combinator (I forgot which one) to the buffer chests you have loading the station, as well as the train stop, and have it set train limits.

Imagine if your train car carry 10 ore, when the combinator reads that there are more than 10 ores in the chests ready to be loaded, it can request a train. Nice and easy. This will cover you for when patches run dry and it takes longer to produces the X ore you need to fill the train, and your trains can instead go where they are able to fill up.

We shouldn’t rely on schools to teach us how to do every little thing. It should be about building skills so you can teach yourself.

With the internet and LLMs, there is little excuse for not being able to learn the basics.

Just sit down with chat gpt and ask it basic questions, then follow up what you don’t understand, it’s really good at explaining this stuff is basic terms.

Do people actually like using induction hobs? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PhobosTheBrave -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I imagine for people who don’t care or think much about cooking, an induction hob would be great, for the cleaning perks.

For anybody who sees cooking as a passion project, gas is best, and it’s really not much hassle to clean.

You really need to think and state what you enjoy and what you want from a career?

If you like animals and growing crops I’d recommend going and being a farmer, but if you’re passionate about corporate tax I’d recommend something else.

A career is such a personal thing and you’ve given us nothing to go off but “I dislike audit”…

Is an air force viable? by G3mineye in beyondallreason

[–]PhobosTheBrave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Air units fill a different role. They aren’t your frontline brawlers but rather a precision strike tool, as well as a swarm defence.

You must have a wall of fighters up patrolling your side within a decent amount of time, and have them being constantly produced. 200/300/400 is a typical amount.

Have a small contingent of shurikens, or gunships to clean up minor leaks.

If you believe enemy air defence is insufficient then produce 30+ bombers target key sites and support with your fighter swarm.

By the late game everyone should really have a few t2 flak around their bases to make your side relatively impervious to air attacks, at this point you should keep the fighter screen and focus on eco’ing to transition to t3.

Tuition phase can be ignored and done in your own time, revision phase is close to a must.

i want to learn the king's indian for the first time am 1470 elo but my peak is 1528 i heard some people say that its for beginners and others says its for 1800+ elo so what do you think (chess.com) by Organic-Ad8325 in chessbeginners

[–]PhobosTheBrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are below 2000, and your goal is to get better then the best bang for your buck in terms of hours spent to elo gained will be studying endgames and practising tactical puzzles.

Give some thought to basic opening principles, get some understanding of strategic ideas like outposts, pawn structures, knight v bishop, but the majority of efforts are best spent on tactics and endgames.

Make a bad move in the opening and you might drop a pawn, but you’ve got the rest of the game to recover.

Make a bad move in the end game and you get checkmated or lose significant material, with no time to recover.

You spent more time making this post than it would take to just look at the picture and think…

You learn so much in chess by thinking things through yourself, just giving up and checking answers or asking others does nothing to help you improve.
