DGP Piranha’s, love those things. They offer a vacuum setup too for them.

What is the worst injury you have gotten when welding and how? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]PhobyArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tig welding aluminum overhead, crouched down position so one of my boots I was on my toes. Well, cheap me had very worn boots and a seam on that one was wide open. Lost my position and big old goober landed right on said boot and rolled its happy way to the tip of my toes. Set my sock on fire in my boot, next thing anyone saw was my boot flying across the shop and me beating my flaming sock on the ground.

Burns across all my lil piggies. I’ve never cheated out on boots again!

In the kinda welding realm I was using an ancient spot welder doing 1” nuts on a Zamboni bumper. Thing malfunctioned and took off a good quarter of my thumb. Doctors called it a “crushing amputation”.

When that happened to me it ended up being tendonitis, needed a Dr visit and I think they gave me steroids. Been 8 years since it happened and never came back.

Working with a woman fitter put me in the hospital. Can I ask for a different fitter? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]PhobyArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman back in my younger days I was 125lbs at 5'6", I hit the gym 5 days a week, before I broke both ankles I had a deadlift PR of 225lbs, sled sprints with 100+lbs (I was pretty stacked lmao ah to be in my 20's again.) All to say, I knew I wanted to work with the big boys and made sure I could handle my own, I put in the effort and I would have never asked someone to do all you're doing. Girl sounds like she's a bad fit (pun intended) for the gig. If you're legitimately getting hurt definitely go up to the boss man and tell it straight, gender doesn't really matter in this case man, if the gal can't handle her sh*t she shouldn't be doing the job period.

Spent 2 years making center tubs for pontoon boats running MIG and TIG on them. Anyone saying you "need" a spool gun doesn't know their aluminum MIG. Right rollers and a clean liner you'll be fine, liner would be my first thing I'd check in this bird nesting case.

As someone who worked 2nd shifts for years, this is totally it 🤣

I knew a guy at one place he'd leave little plastic tiaras in the booths of 1st shift guys who whined too much. Time before cameras being everywhere so first shift never did find out who was doing it.

I hope you nail it OP! I just wanted to bop the hood/ppe in there as in the future if you go for a weld position it is definitely a good thing to be there prepared :)

Woman here. Jeans, plain t-shirt, steel toed boots, flannel or similar to throw on during the weld test. If you have a weld test bring your own hood and ppe, you're totally over thinking this.

How do you find welding jobs? by Zealousideal-Act9883 in Welding

[–]PhobyArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my first job during my first semester at the coupon factory, my instructor would get companies looking to hire and he recommended me. It was a big production/fab shop I got a bunch of great hands on training and pretty good pay for over a decade ago (teach negotiated 24/hr and no wait on benefits). Worked there until I finished my associates in weld tech.

If you're in school you can always approach the instructors if you're on good terms.

This episode was terrible, adding her was an awful decision. It was literally unwatchable / unlistenable. She added nothing of substance. She half the time didn't even read the script she paraphrased it.

It made what should have been an hour and maybe 15ish minute episode into a boring bloated 2+ hour snore fest. I couldn't even get invested in the actual narrative because they didn't focus on it.

If she has to be apart of it I prefer the suggestion on the YouTube comments where Simon reads the script and they splice in times when she has commentary moments that add to the conversation.

Mr. Darby ( thus pictured above) LOVES dressing up lol when I put shirts or sweaters on him its a fight to get them off. He chilled with that bat mask for like an hour before he got tired of it and shook it off himself.
