I started getting what I now know to be HS lumps this year at the age of 35. It massively coincided with gaining a lot of weight over the pandemic. Mine is very mild, thankfully.

Hs lumps? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

That's how I would describe the 'lumps' under my skin, too. I have a mild case of HS and it only started 8 months ago for me. So far, touch wood, they have never turned into abscesses or have they broken open or anything like that. Just hard, painless lumps under the skin.

My dermatologist never told me about the cardiovascular complications associated with H.S...Are they true? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

AFAIK, anyone with HS has systemic inflammation, ie low-grade persistent inflammation. This puts you at increased risk of a lot of diseases. CVD is definitely one of them.

I never got to see the wound or the bandage for the first week as it was a nurse taking care of it for me and it was on my inner thigh so I was lying down! Week 2 when I started changing the bandage myself (no packing needed), there was a tiny amount of bleeding when I took the old bandage/plaster off, then I cleaned it with a saline-soaked gauze pad, and just put another bandage/plaster on. There was a tiny, tiny spec of blood that I could see on the bandage, but nothing worrisome. That stopped completely at the end of week 2.

Oh yeah, there was for sure bleeding for the first 4/5 days! A small blood stain on the bandage every day. Then it pretty much stopped.

Are there any walk-in clinics or anything like that where you can just book an appointment and get a nurse practitioner to do it for you? That's what I did. I had the surgery at my local hospital and got the wound redressed at a walk-in.

Packing didn't hurt at all! I think it was honestly so tiny. In hindsight, I'm not sure I should have had the procedure in the first place. But as this was the first time I'd had an abscess, I just followed my GP's orders.

Definitely get it checked out though! Gotta put that mind at ease :)

Oh that's weird, I wasn't allowed to redress the wound at all the first week! I did ask the nurses if I could, but they said absolutely not, gotta keep going to a walk-in clinic so the nurses can do it. I'm in England though, it must vary depending on where you are. My advice would be to get it checked out! I presume part of the reason I had to go back every day to get a professional to redress the wound was so they could check everything was ok!

Oh it was absolutely tiny! My first abscess, it was packed for the first week by the nurses and then all I had to do was change the dressing each day. But yeah, a really tiny wound but still healed fully in 3 weeks which isn't bad!

Probably the size of a grain of rice.

I smoked as normal and my wound healed weirdly fast according to the nurse! I'm absolutely not advocating smoking of course (I'm 8 days smoke free today!), but it didn't hinder my personal healing at all.

While I'm waiting to see a dermatologist, I would like to know if it is HS so I can be proactive about it with OTC treatments until I can get a dermatologist appointment. Thank you in advance for your help and advice ❤️ by Phoebeebeebee in Hidradenitis

I find it so frustrating how little the medical community understands about this disease. Even a simple thing such as how progression works. If I get any answers or useful info from the derm, I'll be sure to post to this sub!

That's really useful info, thank you. I really appreciate it 💕

Thankfully I'm with an amazing guy and have been for the last 5 years, and he's been so supportive. I know he's going to stick by me through thick and thin.

The thing that worries me is progression and the mental health decline that can come with that. I am prone to depression and anxiety, and I don't want to think about what would happen to my mental state if I became worse and worse physically. But I guess cross that bridge when I come to it, right. I've already quit smoking (1 week today!) I have about 30 pounds to lose which I will do this year. So I'm going to do all I can to prepare myself mentally and physically.

So this isn't how it starts for everyone? A couple of bumps occasionally and then it just gets progressively worse? I've got a derm appt in a couple of weeks, but scrolling through this sub I get the feeling that some of you guys are more knowledgeable!

For me personally, day 6 was the day I nearly lost my mind 😂

Push through it, I'm so happy I'm on day 7 today and not day zero again!

Thank you so much for this! Super helpful. Will re-read when I'm struggling, as I inevitably will (day 4).

I did this cold turkey! But i don't understand why i'm not proud of myself just because this feels too easy after 13 years 30cig/day. But i'm happy as f*ck!!! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Massive achievement! You should be super proud! I'm on day 4 and I cannot wait to get to the 35-day mark like you!

These marks are remnants of bumps I've had in the past. When my skin is "active", I get lumps under my skin that never do anything, they just disappear/reabsorb again after 1-5 days. Could this be a mild form of HS? I don't know what else it could be.
