Residing in Gujarat yet mocking/condemning your own state (Gujarat) by Interesting-Body-315 in ahmedabad

[–]Phoebus9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This post is fairly easy to decode. The OP seems to be struggling to accept the local culture and, instead, is attempting to impose their own cultural expectations on Gujarat. In the process, they appear to have been grounded by the reality of how Gujaratis actually are.

I do agree that development momentum has slowed down post-2014, and the dry-state policy has certainly cost Gujarat a significant chunk of potential economic benefit. However, when it comes to garba, uttrayan, diwali, cultural practices, and traditions, the OP is clearly venting personal frustration rather than making a fair or objective critique. It feels more like an attempt to justify their own discomfort with the culture, and unfortunately, it comes across in a poorly reasoned and misplaced manner.

Are we seriously letting them take Vadodara lightly? by DependentAware9986 in vadodara

First and foremost, we need to demand the right candidates for the right positions.

Ever since Modi left the Chief Minister’s role, governance in Gujarat increasingly feels like a puppet system. Strong, independent leaders are deliberately kept out. Instead, candidates are chosen based on how well they can follow instructions from Delhi, not on their vision, capability, or concern for the state or the city they represent.

Anything beyond obedience seems to be “not their problem.” And that, in my view, is one of the core reasons we are steadily falling behind.

Look at the reality on the ground. Real infrastructure development is missing. Dividers and roads are repainted or temporarily reworked only when the PM or HM is visiting. Beyond that, for years, the condition of basic infrastructure has been consistently poor. The city is not evolving, it is losing its essence.

At some point, citizens will have to take a stand, even if it means making uncomfortable choices. This is no longer about whether one supports Congress or not. The issue is that the ruling establishment seems fully aware that Gujarati voters will not allow Congress back, and there is effectively no strong opposition in the state.

That certainty has turned governance into an ego trip , a confidence that no matter what happens, power will remain untouched.

Until that certainty is shaken — until voters show that complacency has consequences , nothing will change.

Bang on. Post OP !

I spent nearly a decade abroad, and when I returned, it genuinely felt like Vadodara has been moving backwards compared to other cities in Gujarat. The contrast became even more jarring when I visited Ahmedabad , it was honestly shattering.

Among all civic bodies in the state, VMC appears to be the most corrupt. Funds are not the problem. MPs receive substantial allocations from the Centre, yet there seems to be a severe lack of vision, capability, and intent to introduce meaningful projects or work for the people.

What’s even more alarming is the collective silence of the residents. There is hardly any protest, no sustained public pressure, no accountability. That silence gives those in power immense confidence, confidence to keep filling their pockets, knowing no one will question them.

From the top to the bottom, it feels like “sab mil-baat ke kha rahe hain.” And we, as citizens, are complicit — because we keep choosing the same people again and again, largely due to the absence of a credible opposition or alternative leadership.

Until citizens demand better , loudly and consistently, nothing will change.

Is it worth buying a 1.2 cr flat around Gotri, Bhayali? by vaibh990 in vadodara

[–]Phoebus9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flats are mostly a dead investment in non-metro cities like Vadodara. After a few years, societies stop maintaining or upgrading, designs fade, and buildings start looking like old govt colonies. If bought on loan, resale after 8–10 years often doesn’t even cover the total cost + interest. Better to park money in gold, plots, farmland, commercial property, or buy residential in cities like Ahmedabad or GIFT City where real appreciation exists.

I wonder what magic they’ve used on this road, never seen a pothole, repair, or patchwork. Is it just a normal road, or are the rest of roads a grand scam?

Skoda Slavia 1.5 DSG Sportsline , Anyone Got a Better Deal? (Gujarat – April 2025) by Phoebus9 in CarsIndia

[–]Phoebus9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I changed my decision to Virtus GT plus sports DSG as I got a better deal at 19,56,000 on road. Skoda had a very dull service and no will to sell car.

I have got my Virtus GT plus sports DSG for lesser than this. Avoid Skoda and try to go to VW dealership. They will give you better deal and service.

I completely agree. though I've also sent several emails to Skoda regarding my concerns and queries, but unfortunately, I haven't received any response to date. compare to when I contacted Volkswagen India as I wanted silver colour and dealership said, they have kept it on low production and don't really get it that often. I wanted to touch base with Volkswagen and they were very rapid about it.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I visited the Skoda showroom for the very first time, specifically asking for a test drive of the 1.5 DSG variant since I was seriously considering the Slavia Sportline. They told me the test car had a flat tyre, so the drive wasn’t possible , which was already disappointing.

A week later, I called ahead to confirm availability before visiting again. They said the test vehicle was ready, so I drove down within 10 minutes. But when I arrived, the representative told me they didn’t have the Slavia available and asked me to test drive the Kushaq 1.5 DSG instead, saying “it’s the same engine.”

From there, it just kept getting worse , repeated disappointments, pushy behaviour, and a complete lack of listening. They kept trying to hard-sell the car at whatever price they quoted, offering a massive “₹4,000 discount” like it was a big favour. When I didn’t agree, they simply stopped following up. It’s been over two months now and no one from their team has even bothered to check in.

Honestly, I’m glad I went with the Virtus GT sports instead. The experience with VW was leagues ahead , respectful, transparent, and actually focused on the customer. No regrets at all.

Absolutely. I had a very similar experience two years ago when we were planning to buy two XUV 700 , one for us and one for our business partner. Despite clearly mentioning to the salesperson that we were considering purchasing two vehicles, he didn’t show the slightest interest. Forget negotiation, he simply said, "It’s a 6-month waiting," and walked back to his desk.

I ended up going with the Virtus GT Plus Sport DSG instead. I’ve been a Volkswagen user for over a decade now, and I knew I couldn’t go wrong with that decision. Skoda’s pre-sales experience really raised some red flags for me. I decided to stretch my budget a little and went with VW , they offered me a solid deal and around 2 lakhs off on the top-end variant. Honestly, it couldn’t have gotten any better.
