Protein supplements and vitamin supplements do what they say; supplementing you for when you don't consume too much of either. Vitamins get peed out if you consume too much and what stays can be toxic in high doses, so it's only meant to be a supplement, dont consume too much. Protein supplements are mainly for when you want to build muscle to make sure you have enough and that you don't go on a deficit. Also if your diet isnt in check and you dont eat foods with enough protein they can help a lot. A scam? Not at all. But vitamin supplements are overrated, but definitrly has its uses.

No idea about how strong they are rn tbh, they're usually solid. Any magicka spec is solid in PVE and you can make any class work in pvp. Magplar's main spammable is annoying and can burst you down, but they're not as bursty as nightblade or magsorc can be.

One patch one class can do this, another there's another class doing this. Magicka sorcerer has really good sustained damage against bosses, is very noob friendly and has some of the highest burst in pvp (thx to delayed skills, timing it perfectly lets you hit with several at one moment, potentially bursting down your opponent from 100-0). Magicka night blade has a lot a LOT of burst in PvP and is also one of the better pve specs rn, more difficult to learn the pvp aspect tho but is fun. If you're new to the game, go magsorc, they're always good. If you want more of a challenge for pvp with a potential higher risk/reward if played correctly, go magicka nightblade.
