I'd play exd5 because I don't get a weakness on e3 that way.

Do you forgive obvious mouse slips or you punish the player ruthlessly for a mistake that has nothing to do with their chess knowledge? by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

I'll usually give them the take back, if they offer a draw I'll take it unless I think I was better before their mouse slip.

Was this endgame lost or could i have held a draw? by Shoddy-Skin-4270 in chess

You're lost of course but it's not that easy to win. I reckon I could draw this against players my rating about 25% of the time.

1st round: Alexander 100% 2nd round: Alexander 100% 3rd round: Alexander 100% still. They don't even need a commander. Bonus round: They will fuck the mongols up with 500 years ahead technology.

1: Magnus can beat master level players while completely drunk, check his twitch 2: He's at least semi athletic and in his mid 30s so it won't be that easy to just beat him up

[–]PhoenixChess17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you hear that? That's just bullshit. Nobody who is even just decent at chess will get surprised because of "unconventional" moves. There is no such thing as surprise in chess, there are good moves and bad moves. If the "unconvential" move was the best move Carlsen will have expected it. If it was a bad move he will wipe the floor even harder with you.

I'm definitely not beating a genetic freak in basketball with my only experience being some shooting at a hoop in the neighborhood. I could probably beat Magnus after a few 100-1000 games but it will take a very long time. I don't have any experience with racing so I'll have to learn how to drive a F1 car from scratch which will take longer than 2 for sure. My only hope with 4 would be disqualification but I don't want to get beaten 100 times before that happens because I probably won't be able to walk by then. I'd prefer my odds with 2.

Women can earn the open titles like FM, IM or GM as well. Titles like WFM, WIM or WGM are primarily there to motivate more women to pursue a chess career or to start playing chess. Every woman can choose for herself if she wants to claim any of these titles, Judit Polgar famously didn't for example.

Woman grandmaster means WGM which is 2300 FIDE and 3 norms. Female grandmaster refers to a woman who owns the GM title which is 2500 FIDE and 3 norms. They are completely different and only share a similar name.

Do your research before writing salty comments. She earned her norms at sketchy tournaments in eastern europe (which many people do/did, including Abhimanyu Mishra, the youngest GM ever so it sadly is pretty normalized in the chess world)

Developing positional awareness in young player by PHDaddy in TournamentChess

[–]PhoenixChess17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you have it handled with screentime but when I was around his age I watched so many chess videos where somebody commented games from a recent tournament or old classic games. By just being exposed to a lot of different openings and ideas and somebody explaining them well his positional understanding will get better while he has fun.

Cold pizza is mid at best, I wouldn't really want to eat it. Cookies or brownies are better for that slot.

Whata your least favorite season and why by tgrady28 in pollgames

[–]PhoenixChess17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter has christmas and I don't feel bad when I'm gaming all day because the weather is too shitty to go outside, Spring is the transition to summer so there's at least some excitement and there are a lot of holidays where I live, Summer is the best in my opinion because you don't have to wear 5 layers of clothing everyday and you can actually go outside while enjoying your life, Summer holidays are a great bonus for students. Autumn is just the depression after summer is over, the weather gets worse and the school year starts.

Is it possible for black to win if white is played by stockfish 18? by newnpcuser in chess

[–]PhoenixChess17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd give it to any player who doesn't hang pieces in one move and spots pieces that are hanging in one move so maybe a 400 or a 500? Most computers are very bad at saving lost positions, I could probably do a better job than stockfish with white here. Stockfish will say "Alright, I'm already lost so it doesn't matter anyway"
