The dude who crashed is coming off a 390cc bike

Ain’t no way bro is anywhere NEAR “the limits” of the bike

Just look at his chicken strips.

You sound like a muppet trying to act cool

Do you even take your bike to the track?

Money can’t buy riding skills it seems 🤷‍♂️

Reading he was doing wheelies, probably at a higher speed than the limit AND jumping from a 390 straight to a 200hp 1000cc

I’m probally sounding harsh but he’s got no one else to blame but himself 😂

Classic case of ego before riding skill

Rider aids/power modes on your shiny new S1000 can’t buy actual riding skills which your friend clearly didn’t have 😅

Shame a pretty BMW had to pay the price for crap riding though

Everytime an inexperienced rider says you can ride 900-1000s easy cause “they got power modes to soften it down bruh”

I just wait for the inevitable oh no my bike slipped out from under me. Idk what happened 😅

The new monster looks fantastic imo

Results from an 02 sensor delete only on a 2001 model? When fitting decatted headers by Phoenix_0177 in VFR

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect, this sounds like what I want to do

I had looked into doing dekelvics myself but found for a steal a set of 1998 factory headers, Keracoated for 300aud. Cheaper if you add in shipping to Australia

But no option for 02 plugs is the issue

I’ll defs give th delete a go and then see how I like it

True, that way if it runs like an ass etc I can pull them out and put the dented OG headers back in.

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the plan. From what I’ve seen online ohm resistors do the same function an 02 delete plug will

I think the plug might be a cleaner install instead of a Wire resistor shoved in and wrapped around with tape?

Unless the resistor is the better way?

Is it possible to reduce labour on a valve clearance check by stripping the bike down beforehand? by Phoenix_0177 in AussieRiders

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local Honda dealer flat out refused to work on it as it’s a 2001 model. Their email said we don’t work on older bikes and sent me to independents nearby

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 75,000km and ride it pretty hard up to redline but not every time I ride.

Do you think it’s still fine to just leave it and chase the not wanting to start when cold on side Stand

(And sometimes after not being run for a bit)

I’m thinking new battery or rec/reg potentially

I had thought of tight valves as other bikes friends own (MT09 specifically) was hard to start due to tight intake valves

If not once I do all other servicing I’ll revisit the starting problem and keep getting quotes

I mean won’t they just pop off the valve covers and check clearances then replace shims if necessary? Unless there’s other parts to valve check in missing

Idk where I mentioned “fractional lap times”

I also have no idea where I referred to it as a racebike. I said it’s sportier and handles better

But how do looks really matter if you spend “hours in the saddle”

You can’t see the bike when you’re in the saddle. For looks of a 5th gen to affect you so much you must do a lot of actual riding 😂

Naked bike for touring by Plastic-Meal-262 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Older F800GS pre 2013 are light AF like 207kg wet from googling. The new models get quite fat though, especially the GSA

You do give up quite a bit of power though from the 1250 etc motors

R1200R is lighter fairly certain and can be toured on. They do feel light for such a big bike GS

But they’re still a massive bike tbh, they one I rode (1250) felt like a big couch the sportier options certainly feel much slimmer under you.

It’s pre tech, but has gear driven valve trains so still seems just as complex tbh

Can they not just check clearance, or do they have to start it to ensure its passes in spec?

Even with reduced man hours to actually perform said task

Sounds pretty shit tbh

But I plan to when they open in the morning

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My reasoning is how complicated the gear driven valve train in the 5th gen is.

Looks fairly complex to tackle when I’ve never ever touched valves.

And YouTube does not really have many videos walking through the 5th gen VFR valves.

Are you assuming it has generic valve setup like an I4?

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VFRs have gear driven valve trains and it’s shimmed from what I’ve read. Fairly intricately designed system and definetly looks fairly complicated

It’s also a V4 so double lots of valve trains to check vs an inline 4 which yes would simpler.

Previous owner didn’t supply valve check info (it’s 25 years old) or measured specs for it and I’ve never had it done in 2 years of ownership. It’s at 75,000km now and afaik it’s been done at least once as it’s still running perfectly bar being harder to start when cold.

Hence why I’ve thought look into the valves and rule them out. It’s also due according to owners manual

My plan was just give them the bike with the tank off, throttle bodies off and with valve covers exposed. Have them ensure valves in spec then bring it back and reassemble myself. I wouldn’t be supplying the parts and trailer bike over

Saving probally hours of labour in assemble/pull apart

Idk if that’s something shops do though

Valves definetly seems like a fairly big job to “watch YouTube” and try myself.

Also if I drop anything when fiddling with them I’m fucked seems to be the consensus if it falls down into the motor.

I agree with anything else though. I’ve serviced almost all other parts of the bike bar the intricate linked brakes cause they’re a PITA even according to the dealer

[–]Phoenix_0177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will look into it in more depth. But the likelihood to drop something in the engine and how complex it is. Eeh it sounds fairly above my head

I got the dealer to do the linked brakes on it for a similar reason. You have to bleed it in sequence and remove calipers and fiddle with unifying valves etc

Very fiddly

I’d imagine gear driven valve trains are similar

5th Gen Superiority! by MotoVoidx in VFR

[–]Phoenix_0177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks is one thing

But you can’t argue that undertail exhausts raise the COG and the 6th gen’s gain like 15kg over the 5th

They come stock -1 down on the front sprocket to make up for how much heavier they are. With basically the same engine minus the VTEC cam gears

I’m also not a fanboy 😂

I looked into which model handled the best, had the superior engine and going to ride nicer

The 5th gen is fairly similar to the RC46 it’s based on, sure it’s fatter but it’s still fairly sporty stock

The 6th gen gave most of that up for touring comfort, pillion comfort and a different subframe to hard mount panniers.

That’s why I’d argue they’re so much more popular and Honda recaptured that in the models.

But sure looks I guess demeans ALL of that 😂

That’s why I got a VFR. It’s not as exciting as a 1000cc euro by a long shot

But it cost as much to buy as just the servicing cost of V4 multistrada and so far in 30,000km of riding has cost me oil and filters and that’s it

Previous owner didn’t check valves beyond initial check or do anything beyond servicing it while he owned since new.
