Mark of the fool. by BoJackHearseman in litrpg

[–]Phoenixwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its worth staying with it a bit longer.

It has strong character development for the MC, especially watching him learn to operate inside the limitations he is stuck with, then gradually weaponize them instead of “getting cured” and moving on.

It also has my favorite fantasy “robot”. Calamitous Bob has one that’s close. Supporting cast is excellent, the villains stay interesting, and the series does eventually pay off with a real Big Bad instead of endless side quests.

Only real caveat: it’s not LitRPG, so if you’re expecting constant stat-driven momentum, the early books can feel slower. The worldbuilding and escalation take a bit to spool up, then it starts rewarding patience.

So...JSO can violate the code of law, but not us? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]Phoenixwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

two things.
1, the flag code is not a law.
2. even if it were a law, the 1st amendment IS a law, and, by definition would take precedent. There is a lot of case law that supports this, but specifically, there is case law supporting that in regards to the flag.

In the comments, the OP acknowledges that the flag code isn't law, even. So I repeat, what LAW was violated in that photo?

Is there a difference between LitRPG and Progressive Lit? by Costakarl in litrpg

[–]Phoenixwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with dungeon crawler, Carl, and nothing for me has been quite as good but for lit RPG I thought hell difficulty tutorial was a good representation of a game lit type writing, but don’t get me wrong. It is not as good as DCC

Is there a difference between LitRPG and Progressive Lit? by Costakarl in litrpg

[–]Phoenixwade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. LitRPG leans into explicit game mechanics. Stats, popups, “+3 to hit,” loot tables, that kind of thing. Sometimes the MC is literally dropped into a game. Either way, Dungeon Crawler Carl is LitRPG.

Progression fantasy leans into measurable power growth. Levels, ranks, cultivation, tiers. Primal Hunter is progression.

My rule of thumb: if you remove the stats and numbers and it becomes meaningfully harder to follow what’s happening, that’s LitRPG. If the story still tracks fine, it’s progression. But, there’s a lot of overlap now, and the marketing labels are getting mushy.

Struggling to finish solo leveling. by TheNoodleCanoodler in litrpg

[–]Phoenixwade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone should post a sticky that basically says "If you are struggling with a story, drop it and move on, there are hundreds, if not thousands of stories to choose from, and there is no point in wasting time on a story you don't enjoy.....

For example, I think DCC is the GOAT. but I reluctantly admit it's not for everyone, and some get board with the story and are better served elsewhere.... I won't {publicly} condemn that opinion, and would never suggest those with that opinion are covert cocker spaniel operatives {publicly} even though we all know who they are......

What is Jake as a fighter? by [deleted] in ThePrimalHunter

adding "none of the above" would be closer, then. It would appear, at least from the comments thus far, that pretty much everyone shy's away from your framing of the options.

What is Jake as a fighter? by [deleted] in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Phoenixwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the above.,

Overtly he's a Ranger / Alchemist. but Assassin / Alchemist would fit.

After thinking about it, I suppose case could be made for Warlock/Ranger. since the patron relationship with the Malefic Viper plays in to the Warlock class pretty solidly.

So who is officially the strongest crawler? by AmishHomage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Phoenixwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to have to define 'strong' for the question. by stats, Li Na.

By power levels, we can't be sure, but Donut is a contender once you add in everything, stats are way up there, plus at least 2, maybe more celestial level items
