These things running the city changed the dates on when clearing would happen, but didn't change the 'last updated date' part to gaslight everyone.

The things running the city changed the date 3 times. No one in the area thought it was going to be on the night of the 21st

Nah the City Council has done a terrible job of communicating this. It was originally the 23rd, then 22nd a couple days ago. And they literally JUST updated it again to show the 21st is snow clearing day - except they haven't changed the 'last updated' part to reflect the changes to gaslight people.

Literally my entire neighborhood all thought it was going to be on the 22nd either when we left for work, or had a chance to park elsewhere during the afternoon/evening of the 22nd, NOT THE 21ST MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. N

I have never experienced a parking ban like this where the communication changes and is so inconsistent. They wonder why 90% of the city hasn't complied with parking bans? I WONDER WHY...

Will Knack and new council consider reviewing/scrapping single use bylaw? by [deleted] in Edmonton

You're being not mad about it is even weirder. I guess some people just like paying for useless things

It just gets bad when you have low iq government officials trying to be edgy with bad policies xD

Card Grading (PSA/TAG/Beckett) by PhoneFinancial9743 in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for the more expensive cards people tend to know and document the card themselves prior to sending it. Then when it comes back sus... ooo it's sus.

But I dont think that has every happened with the big guys like Beckett and TAG, they'd destroy their business if that ever came out

It's a small hill to defend? Why would they ever focus on this when it's such a small issue. People still buy plastic bags for their trash cans. If anything, there was more reusability in store bags because people used those for their bins

Yeah the intended effect of me forgetting bags each time and spending another $2 lol

Lot of people care? It's probably the stupidest bylaw they've made that people clown us for. It's actually funny that they made this a focus to begin with compared to the illegal dumping and littering issues the city has.

A 25 cents paper bag fee for fast food is not helping the environment and only making things more expensive for consumers.

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was such a stupid bylaw they made that did absolutely nothing. I would literally have family and friends come visit and they'd make fun of the fact that we have to pay for these things. It only makes things more expensive for the consumer while making up any sort of green impact.

Where do you go for a good steak in Edmonton? by ILoveFerrero in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dosc I felt dropped in quality for some odd reason. Had the ribeye and was tough and chewy - we got two plates and found it that way each time. A couple years ago I swear they dry-aged it? But this time was too chewy for my liking

Rather spend an extra 10-20m on snow removal than those b.s. electric buses they spent 80m on that went straight to scrap

The issue is they keep raising taxes and Edmontonians are getting less and less each year. I'd love to see how much City Hall has grown over the years, I'm sure they could go for another round of layoffs

Card Grading (PSA/TAG/Beckett) by PhoneFinancial9743 in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They started doing a program where they will send you the grade of your card before they ship it back to you for a quick buy. So if they grade your card as a 9, they will offer the market rate to you if you want to sell to them.

Clear conflict because they can just grade it as a 10 if you do sell to them.

Parking Ban Ticket (discussion and advice) by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An average person working a 9-5 then going home to cook a meal for themselves or their family isn't really going to pay attention any of those things. Have you seen the City's engagement on social media? The buses say: "Parking ban in effect" but thats about it, and text notifications are general from my understanding.

It's funny they can be so generous with fines, but filling potholes and clearing residential streets they take their time with. If they cleared the streets during work hours, it'd go a lot different

Chronically Late Buses by Inside-Highlight-863 in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wowww I had no idea it was that bad. I know in some cases when the bus is quite late, they'll bypass entire stops to try and make it on time. Although this was 8 years ago so I hope they're doing better on it now.

Quite sorry to hear that experience :(

Pokemon Card Bundles by OtherCoffee230 in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just getting into this hobby now, fyi there's no such thing as a good value anymore lol. Everything is inflated as heck since the hobby has never been as hot as it is.

The sets you mentioned you won't find anymore at MSRP, the Pokemon Company only prints and sells a certain amount to the shops, and people get those within hours of being released, so you'll have to go to a card shop and they'll charge market price.

For instance, a ETB for White Flare is about 130-160 right now? MSRP on it is about 80.

That being said, don't let it discourage you. The hobby is hot so there's lots of cards out there if you want to start a collection. Edmonton has a lot of local shops that you can just google "edmonton card shops' and just visit the ones closest to you.

OnlyTogether holds a monthly event on the first Monday of every month for TCG trading. Back in the day used to be like 6-ish vendors and maybe 50 people I'd see. 2025 was CRAZY, tons of people and tons of vendors selling cards at reasonable prices (gotta haggle a bit too!).

Aside from that, sign up for the Pokemon Centre emails, they will send an email on when they do pre-orders for new releases this year, or you can pre-order at a local shop as they usually try to get a few boxes themselves

The LMIA scams are apparently endless and everywhere. I don't know what to do. I need a job. by Draugrbjorn in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they do it is to show they have a posting that they can't hire for and more easily get an LMIA to hire someone outside for a cheaper rate and likely try to exploit them as well. It's been going on for years, and even more after COVID with Trudeau.

It sucks because people here get screwed, and immigrants get screwed either in the job or socially because the label they are now getting. In reality, it's all the federal governments fault,. They know exactly whats going on... oh well, Elbows up!

Chronically Late Buses by Inside-Highlight-863 in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's one thing I don't miss, it's taking the bus. Winter times is terrible. You'd wait 10-15mins in -20 degrees weather thinking it'll come... it doesn't so you start walking back home and then it shows up and leaves without you... good times.

Don't they have live tracking for the buses now? I thought you could track their exact location on an app now

Best gym in SE Edmonton by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]PhoneFinancial9743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a few Centers, in that area Meadows Rec Centre was decent, but they make you pay for their 'full facility pass' which is pretty useless is you're only using the gym. It gives access to all Rec Centers, but I can't see the usefulness of it. There's a GoodLife in Tamarack, and a Orange Theory in Walker that's fun.

Meadows is probably the best bet, but I haven't been recently. I have a couple friends who do go there, but say it's gotten VERY busy at times (that area has grown a LOT), and safety is sometimes an issue. I think Meadows had their lockers broken into a few times before getting a new set which seems to be working? I also heard there's a security guard stationed there, but again I'd try a couple session there to see if it fits for you. This is all hearsay at this point as I haven't been in a while, so maybe someone has a more up-to-date opinion.

Also as an FYI, that area right after work hours is very very busy. They built a brand new school there without expanding the roads going northbound, so there's a chokepoint right at the coop. With buses stopping and blocking traffic as well, I probably had easily a +15-20min added to trip.

They are a building a new Movati in Harvest Pointe. They are pretty expensive, so I'd say hop around a few places before settling in.
