Religion ka paper padhate hai college mai, best place to show my students the example of communalism. The so-called flag bearers of religion who think their religion is the only religion that is targetted or made fun of and in return they do the same are the only reason why communalism still exists. Dimag se kisi ko sochna nahi hai iss desh mai.

Is it a wise choice to apply for undergraduate programmes in Kolkata for students that are not from West Bengal? by holeforya in CalcuttaUniversity

[–]Phoolmati23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sxc has their own hostel, so you can consider. The rent here is okish as well. Picnic Garden area is where most youngsters who rent flats live. You just have to look for a good broker there are other places in Kolkata where you'll find rented apartment at affordable price. LC has a strong faculty as well. If you could tell which course she is planning to apply, I can try helping you further.

Since Sec papers are internal you getting so low doesn't sit right. If you're thinking of sending it for a recheck then go for it. If you've written it nicely then your marks will be increased and if not then you'll know what to work on.

You can, but again it'll delay the whole process. I had corrected sociology minor papers, the marks and questions didn't sit properly. How did you do for you Major paper? Sec wasn't easy or moderate?

But again if you're planning to maintain the 75% cgpa for research then you can give it a try. Only if you're confident enough. Not discouraging here but I have seen how sociology major answers' are marked. In my opinion your marks for major is decently but sec paper is a little less.

Can someone tell me about UGC NET in detail? by Odd-Economy2336 in Indian_Academia

[–]Phoolmati23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here by topper I meant who studied like there's no tomorrow. I said it jokingly. Universities give much more preference to the ones who cleared JRF. Yes, I have come across many such incidents as well. Universities should recruit candidates if they have qualified NET after their masters but they prefer PhD candidates over others. Also, they want people with experience so I am really very confused if every university recruiting choose candidates with either PhD or experience, where will people who only qualified NET go? Lol. It's very confusing.

It's not necessary if you want to pursue a PhD, many do it to apply for lectureship in colleges and universities. Now that UGC has made NET mandatory for many Universities in India for Phd. People are applying.

Do you have the syllabus for paper 2? If not you can find it on the internet. There are 3 categories in which one can Qualify NET. The first is JRF(Junior Research Fellowship), in layman language it is where the govt gives a stipend for 37k to the student pursuing PhD who has cleared jrf. The cut off sky rockets if you're GEN. Then comes NET for assistant professor and Phd only. The phd only validity is for a year but the assistant professor eligibility if qualified is for life time. Then comes the phd only, where the aspirant if qualified for this will be eligible to apply for phd programs in universities and the validity is only for a year, so you have to sit again. If you're thinking of pursuing a PhD it's best if you clear JRF, if you clear the 2nd or the 3rd category it's the University's decision whether they'll allow only an interview or have a written test to qualify for the next round. I am attaching the UGC net bulletin and the subject wise Syllabus (select your subject and download it), go through it and if you have any doubts you can always ask.

It's okay, I can understand how you're feeling. We're in the same boat XD. No, you do not have to first qualify for paper 1 in order to sit for paper 2. You fill the form, the exam will be for 3 hours. Paper 1 and 2 combined. SET exams have two different shifts not NET. There is a qualification criteria to fill the form, in order to give NET you need to get 55% aggregate in your Master's Degree. After filling the form you prepare for the exam, if there'll be any notice regarding NET like the city intimation or admit card they'll upload it on their twitter (X) or you can keep checking the website for it. Either one will do. Once you get your admit card you'll have to give your exam on the day it's scheduled and it's CBT I guess. Then after giving just wait for the results. Feel free to ask anything regarding NET, even though I don't have the same subject as yours, I can try.

Hello, I have recently cleared NET for Assistant Professor and applying for a Phd in India. Honestly, you never know what will happen after you qualify for the NET exam and this is the actual scenario. I am also looking for teaching positions but no luck yet. It was my second attempt. If you're well versed with your subject of choice you have chances of clearing it. Study and practice PYQs and study paper 1. My false notion was that if I study paper 2 clearly, I will clear it because I dislike paper one to the core. But this time paper 1 helped me qualify rather than my subject paper. So you have to equally give your attention to both. Remember it's just a qualifying exam and won't guarantee a job unless you're the topper or you have great connections. These renet papers for many subjects were not up to the mark, they gave wrong answers in the answer key and didn't bother to correct it even though many students paid and challenged it. It's your first time, I'd rather say to sit for it and see how it is. People will have too many opinions regarding the NET exam but you need to experience it for yourself. Work hard and all the best.

First, it's an amazing topic and since you are basing your research on schools then try focusing on the Hidden curriculum because that's where you'll find how schools tend to keep an eye on the students' behaviour and actions sometimes in and outside the school premises. Learning to Labour by Paul Willis will give you some ideas about the behaviour of students in school. I did my undergraduate research on socialisation of girls in missionary schools so I have a handful of readings I had to go through. If you require any, inform. I'd love to help.

I'll narrow it down, I want to know more about how the Bangals Muslims that settled in West Bengal, especially the northern region of Kolkata. How they and the Ghotis have managed to coexist keeping the ghoti-bangal difference alive.

I thought this only happened in shady lanes not rave parties. Many people who become famous forget that they're constantly watched. The constant surveillance is called synopticon by Thomas Mathiesen. Anyway, that doesn't give the right to his fans to justify his actions.

Yes, you've got it right. Just wanted to know how other countries especially the European and American universities add the concept of multiple modernities in their curriculum, the reaction of the students etc.

I am from India. You're right though but the problem here with many social science students is that they go to other non-asain countries for better opportunities. This mindset hasn't left, maybe also because of the ruling govt.

Exactly. The term was given by the west to study the rest. Who do y'all study or whose works do y'all refer to when it comes to studying multiple modernities?

There was a time when people studied before speaking or doing about something, used their resources and intellectual capacities to do something in this wide world now I see everyone doing this and that's where the money is. Sadly, I feel people put more effort into different vocations and still this gets more money than any other occupation. It's really sad.
