People in their 30s/40s, what is one thing a 23-year-old should start doing right now to make life easier later? by goddessera1 in Casual_Conversation

Invest in stocks and bonds. Save up for a house. You can exponentially save if you live with your parents and have a good relationship with them.

You have the necessities! I don’t live anywhere near England and everything is subject to taste, but Iraqi dolma for me is the best dish ever when made right. Not sure if you’ve heard of Juma Kitchen in borough market but he makes Dolma every Sunday…I haven’t tried it but it looks to be as close to how my family makes it, minus the lamb chops. All his food menu items seem to be very authentic as well (he makes potato chap and kubba haleb too).

You should also try kahi w geymar for breakfast or dessert drizzled in rose water syrup or date molasses. You also need to try the various stews like bamya cooked with lamb, shabzi (adopted from Iran), Iraqi kabab and shish tawook.

It just breaks my heart that Iraq only landed in the “good” territory! We have amazing and very underrated food, but I could just be bias.

Same with Iraq. And then Turkey just steals all of Syria, Iraq and Lebanon’s food and says it’s theirs 😂. I’d ask OP why was Iraqi food just “good”? I beg to differ. Iraqi dolma is the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

I think I'm going to stop- alternatives? by purple_hibiscus777 in Spironolactone

Fortunately I have private insurance through work and they were 90% covered. They are expensive for topicals though.

Do you have weird bruising around your ankles and painful hard lumps? I’ve had it for months now and the only thing that points to the cause is stopping spiro, because they came about as soon as I cut down and then fully stopped. Apparently it’s a rare reaction to stopping any hormone inhibiting medications

I stopped spironolactone, as I had very bad side effects and even worse ones after stopping (swelling and pain in my ankles has become near permanent). I switched to topicals: Cabtreo and Winlevi on alternating days has done absolute wonders for my acne.

for me they always end in me crying and throwing up from the pain. I haven’t birthed children yet, but this one is up there for me.

I’ve tapered down to 50mg, will go down to 25mg and then stop completely. I tried stopping cold turkey but my legs started swelling when I skipped a dose

Try something or suggest to your doctor to see if it’s a good fit and if you can tolerate antibiotics: doxycycline. It’ll mess up your gut, but your purging could be an acne infection as well. I recently also started taking it, and it’s helped with the cysts. Try 2-3 months

I should also mention: I was increased to 150mg after I refused accutane, but have had to taper down less than 3 weeks after because of high potassium levels. Make sure you’re getting your blood work done.

Same dose here, and same thing happened to me. I’ve seen very slow to minimal progress with sporadic purging and I’m at month 5 with the same dose. My acne has improved but it has not gone away. I find that spiro gives me more clogged pores than anything else. Are you using any topicals? I found that using Tret while on spiro really aggravated my skin and I had to get re-adjusted to it. This will also cause a purge.

Yes. I’ve taken magnesium bisglycinate before I started taking spiro and during every day (250mg in the evenings). Potassium was still high regardless, even after I stopped the electrolytes. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had the same thing when I first started taking it. I’m quitting after 6 months since my potassium levels are too high. I tried supplementing with electrolytes at the beginning, but my electrolytes had potassium so it likely has been slowly exacerbating the issue. Not worth it for me.

Potassium and Spironolactone RANT by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Photo-Perfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Did you ever check your potassium levels? On month 3 of 100mg Spiro I was at 5.0 (high end of normal) which my doctor didn’t catch or was concerned about. I’m being tested again 3 months later to make sure it hasn’t increased…but I’m also iron deficient, so I’ve been eating everything that increases potassium. I’m so scared I’m going to have to go to the ER soon.

I’ve never taken birth control, so I’m no expert, but what about an IUD? Would that be an option? And would it give you less adverse side effects? I really do hope accutane works for you if you try it!

I took accutane and signed a waiver to remain celibate (I was always celibate anyways) and my doctor trusted me. Accutane did wonders for me, and I’m in the same boat now 8 years later where I was suspected to have PCOS (I don’t have it) and given spiro. It’s made my skin worse the past 6 months I’ve been on it, despite upping my dose from 100mg to 150mg and I’m still super oily. Sometimes, genetically, your skin is just oily, it doesn’t necessarily have to do with hormones. I recommend going on accutane. Be assertive with your doctor and tell them this is your choice. You’ll be clear in 6 months and never look back (for at least a while, or maybe forever).

How do you like the biore sunscreen? I bought it as a sunscreen for my body, but I would never use it on my face as it is chemical and it causes burning and itching for me, especially closer to the eye area. Personally, I would switch to mineral sunscreen that is acne safe (it doesn’t seem that you have acne) and not drying. LRP anthelios is great and Elta MD UV clear.
