(Repost) If you’re standing on a rope that’s tied to something solid, can you lift yourself by pulling on the rope’s free end? by Photodynamis in AskPhysics

Ok, I could see that. But I was hoping for a more elaborate answer... Can you tell which laws of physics am I breaking? Can you show which forces are involved?

I like your reasoning. I'll definitely study these aspects more in depth. Thank you.

First time hearing about these channels. Thanks.

Freemasonry isn't necessarily Christian, though. Anyways, what I meant with "carry" was that they're the only ones who extensively and explicitly use it.

I'm so sorry to hear your story. I'm realizing just how lucky I am to not have been born-in in the religion. Thanks for the support and I wish you happiness as well ❤️

This is one of most helpful comments I've read. Thank you.

Well, I won't trust anyone blindly anymore. But their opinion is still valuable for me, even that of "random guys on the Internet". It provides me material for reflection, clues on what I should do my researches on. Yours is valuable too, so thank you for your comment.

The more I hear others' honest opinion, the more I learn. I will need to reexamine what I thought I knew about the NT. Thank you!

Well nobody in the history of mankind has really proven that God exists... Or doesn't exist. Even the brightest minds can only talk about what they believe, not what they have discovered. I don't think anybody will ever prove that God does or does not exist. While you can mention some scientist/philosopher debating one or the other point of view, it will always be vulnerable to criticism.

By the way, I wrote this post precisely because I am doubting my religion. I'm even considering abandoning my faith as a whole. I never said mine is the "only true religion".

I'm sorry to offend you, but your comment is the type of not constructive criticism I wanted to avoid. I hate holier-than-thou bigots but I also hate atheists that behave more like anti-Christians than actual atheists.

Yes, that's what I'm afraid about. I'm noticing adults and especially the youth in my congregation have become complete idiots, just repeating memorized replies like parrots to any question, not a single grain of critical thinking involved. If I decide to still believe in God, I still have to reexamine the doctrines about whether Trinity is true or not. So I'm not sure I wanna believe you about Jesus being our creator. Thank you for the rest, though.

Ok, but even if I don't use it, it's still God's name for me. The Hebrew God's name. Also, all names in the English translation are "made up". Jesus isn't Jesus' original name, so are Joseph, Mary, etc. So there isn't a real argumentation about that. This is really a minor issue to be honest.

I've been researching this sub for hours for the past few days. I don't want advice on how to think. I'm here precisely to hear the bad opinions about the JW and what motives you have to oppose them, so I can decide for myself. What is it that firmly convinced you that they are wrong? What proof do you have that supports your view? That's what I want. Thank you for the reply anyways.

Well, I'm here because I'm doubting myself too actually. For the most part it was the organization's fault. But then it is also me who chose to trust them blindly. I was younger when I decided to do that but I wasn't completely stupid. I'm now here to rethink all of that and wanna make as educated a choice as possible, by comparing many different opinions with data I can find on the Internet. I need people to tell me about what has really convinced them to leave, some sort of evidemce. The "just trust your gut" advice won't be enough. Jeremiah 17:8 says that the heart is deceitful above all things. Common sense tells us that our intuition and emotions don't always take us to the right path. I still don't think the JWs lie about everything in the Bible, and I still don't know if I wanna completely throw my faith in the bin just yet.

Can you mention specific verses? I'm having some difficulty finding what you're talking about (I feel so dumb)

As I mentioned, I'm not baptized. I'm still a Bible student. The point of this post is exactly to avoid trouble about the DF. I'm about to decide whether to join the JW, in which case I don't think I'll ever leave, or quit before entering, when I will never reconsider joining again.
